What kind of "man" calls his 12 year old daughter a 'rude little pig'? I don't care what's going on between Basinger and Baldwin, this is no way to talk to a child.

That whole family's screwed up. But what do you expect? She married him to further her fledgling acting career, and he married her to have a trophy wife. I say take the kid from both of them and save her any more crap. The kid might be a rude litle pig. But if she is, it's not hard to see why.

Interesting that you think psychological abuse of children is A OK typical sponge....and just where did I say that??
here you go.....
reprimand n : an act or expression of criticism and censure; "he had to take the rebuke with a smile on his face" [syn: rebuke, reproof, reproval, reprehension] v 1: rebuke formally [syn: censure, criminate] 2: censure severely or angrily; "The mother scolded the child for entering a stranger's car"; "The deputy ragged the Prime Minister"; "The customer dressed down the waiter for bringing cold soup"; "check" is archaic [syn: rebuke, rag, trounce, reproof, lecture, jaw, dress down, scold, chide, berate, bawl out, remonstrate, chew out, chew up, have words, lambaste, lambast ]

Inasmuch as I don't like his words, I have a question... How in the hell did the message get out? Could have been leaked only by Kim Basinger, I'd say. And that is a despicable way to trash the child's father. Private should remain private.
So if a mother is capable of doing that to her child, God knows what else she's been doing.
I don't like his words, but I'm inclined to take his side on this. Call it a gut feeling.

Okay, since we don't know the whole scenario, just the message. What do you think would make him so pissed. And if this is something that happens to him all of the time, what should he say? From what he says, I can understand him being pissed, if he is crapped on all of the time. I know how he feels. I can understand his anger a bit.

Personally I don't care how it got out there or how pissed off he is. The simple fact is that the piece of crap left that message for his 12 year old daughter. He needs to take it up with Basinger.
Let's not forget, he has a history of anger management issues and maybe someting like this will force him to get help.

What he said to her was a little harsh, but I don't think it was abuse. It is too bad she is put in between her mother and fathers' fight. She needs to learn respect and she needs to know that doing things like that have consequences and won't be put up with, it is rude and irresposible and inconsiderate.

If I were living in NY, and I had scheduled calls with my child in Cali, that were scheduled for HER convenience, not mine, and I consistently made it my business to make that call, only to find on a consistent basis that she had her phone turned off, I'd be pissed too. I wouldn't say what he did, but truthfully I consider that a lot more understandable than a mother who's apparently using her daughter's relationship with her father to take their differences out on the streets.
He apparently gives a damn about his daughter, unlike a lot of the sperm donors I've heard of. I can only say that if it were my child, no matter how I felt about her father, I'd be doing everything I could to make sure she understood that you get the respect that you give - and by 11 or 12, I know my kids had already gotten that lesson down.
And going back to 'old fashioned values', if I'd ever dreamed of being that disrespectful and inconsiderate to ANYONE, let alone my father, I'd have regretted it bitterly.

Too bad he doesn't respect his daughter as much as she;s supposed to respect him. I'm glad my parents didn't "care enough" to call me a rude little pig.

I don't know... There's something about the tone in his voice. A total exasperation, a kind of feeling you have when you keep trying and you keep hitting the same wall.
Like I said, if Ms Basinger was capable of releasing this tape, and if she has a history of violating the custody agreement (she was in contempt already), then I can see where he's coming from.
You know Sponge, us parents that split up with the other parent of our children sometimes go through some pretty inexplicable (to put it mildly) shit. I guess that's why I understand him.
And like Heaven says, old school. My son knows better than to disrespect ANY adult. He wouldn't even try to pull that shit. On the same token I don't trash his father in front of him although God knows I'd have every reason in hell to do it.
And finally, if my child were rude and obnoxious to me in any way, I couldn't guarantee not using similar language. I haven't used it, all I'm saying is that sometimes you get so damn exhausted with getting nowhere that you blurt out bad stuff.

From what I can see, that must have gone to a 12 year old's cell, or personal phone? First-no cell for a 12 year old except for cases of possible emergencies. Second-It wasn't correct the way he handled it, and I think someone needs to intervene, but not just because of him, Third-Why someone felt it necessary to publicize personal isues is garbage.
Maybe the daughter called and left him a message first-who knows. If you are a hurting parent, sometimes your pain makes you say things you shouldn't, and maybe he is otherwise the most loving, giving, caring Dad. He shouldn't lose seeing his child altogether. There are other avenues.
Walk a mile.

First-no cell for a 12 year old except for cases of possible emergencies. It's OK if they have them, providing that they are taught how to use them responsibly.

You have Brit's bald head in one thread- this fat ass in another...It amazes me how much time is spent on egotistical, dysfunctional & insecure people particularly in news programs.
Sorry, just a real pet peeve of mine- continue on if you must...

I just don't understand the fascination with these Hollywood people.
You have a "druggie" that overdoses and weeks of headlines exist.
The latest fad is to go overseas to some remote country to adopt a child. I missed the news story about all of the orphan homes closing in the US. The last I read they were still overcrowded. But going overseas brings bigger headlines.
Maybe it's just me and these people really are important to mankind.

My sister is looking to adopt ray, and she found that it is actually a lot easier and cheaper to adopt a foreign child than an American one. Sad, but true.

Baldwin's spokesman said in a statement Thursday that, "in the best interest of the child," the 49-year-old actor "will do what the mother is pathologically incapable of doing ... keeping his mouth shut and obeying the court order.
"The mother and her lawyer leaked this sealed material in violation of a court order," the statement continued. "Although Alec acknowledges that he should have used different language in parenting his child, everyone who knows him privately knows what he has been put through for the past six years."
...
Basinger was charged with contempt of court in October for violating terms of a 2004 custody agreement. A motion by her lawyers to dismiss the charges was denied Wednesday in Los Angeles Superior Court. The next hearing on visitation issues is scheduled for May 4. Now it becomes clearer. The voicemail is from April 11. She lost the hearing on Wednesday and leaked the message on Thursday. What a mother! If I were the judge, she'd be the one to lose custody.
