First of all this is "all" the reconstruction money? I doubt it. Secondly the nytimes is about he most biased source you could find to quote. Even PBS, a liberal source at best, blasted the nytimes for their inaccuracy on frontline this week past. What a joke.

They "blasted" the NY Times as well as the Washington Post, etc. because they failed to investigate the true matter of WMD. Knight-Ridder, who is not carried by any of the extremely populous cities, was following it all the way, and reporting from the first that there was no evidence of weapons of mass destruction. Furthermore, they couldn't believe the lies being told by the major newspapers reporting the bulletins from the White House, which were obviously false.

There was a bit more detail that merely this. And if you do some additional research you will find that not only were a small amount of WMD discovered and then discounted, but that became a secondary issue in the end. For some strange reason that has become a focal point which was not the main issue at the outset nor should it be now. Not to mention that some WMD's were found and that information was disregarded as unimportant. The issue was and is inaccurate reporting and that the nytimes is an unreliable source, which was stated on the Frontline special. They are not to be believed!!!
"Since 2003, Coalition forces have recovered approximately 500 weapons munitions which contain degraded mustard or sarin nerve agent," said an overview of the report unveiled by Senator Rick Santorum and Peter Hoekstra, head of the intelligence committee of the House of Representatives.

So, the bad guys are making chemical weapons in Iraq...chemical weapons are classified by the UN as WMDs...so there are WMDs in Iraq...wait. That can't be right. The reality-based community said they weren't.

little known fact..but walmart (et al) have more potent chemical weapons in stock (that you can buy over the counter... ) than what was found in Iraq.......
degraded mustard or sarin nerve agent....
this was propaganda bs written to save face...and nothing more...

Look, I can go to my local Fred Meyer and pick up the stuff to make enough chlorine gas to wipe out my neighborhood. I wouldn't even need to buy in quantities to make anyone suspicious.
Afterwards I could also go next door to my friendly local Home Depot and pick up some white and red pigment and hit the camping section for a little magnesium in the form of a fire starter.
Oh yes, since I have a little chemistry knowledge I could create some serious havoc on my quaint little burg. WMD's aren't just for nations. Individuals can make a big splash in that arena if they have the know-how and the desire.
Fortunately I'm a nice guy...and certainly Saddam wasn't...but the things they found in Iraq was paltry and easily made by just about anyone who stayed awake in Chem 1A.

the topic is not wmds or saddam or even the veracity of the new york times. the article is the new york times version of the same thing that has been reported elsewhere: the millions of dollars wasted on projects that have failed or have not been maintained or completed. 
(i actually read a similar article elsewhere yesterday, not in the new york times, which is why i can comment, lol)

There is no point in attacking the messenger (The New York Times). There are many reports out there saying pretty much the same thing for 2003 2004 2005 2006 and now 2007.
Maybe some of you will have more faith in this report by the Council on Foreign Relations.

It is very hard for me to understand why some people want to back this war so much, they refuse to believe anything that shows how bad it is.
Our money is being thrown into a black hole, in my opinion, while our military is being injured and killed. People in this country are dying from lack of heath care. A lot of people are losing their homes to foreclosure. Many have lost their jobs to outsourcing. People have lost their life savings and pensions. Gasoline is sky high. Medicine has increased 70%. Food has doubled. Rent and housing is at an all time high.
Why is it that so many of you don't seem to care that our money is being wasted in this manner, when so many in our own country are getting more and more in desperate need.
It seems to me that many prefer blindly supporting this war, than caring about their own country, it's military and its people.

Oh Seal, if you can't see that all that hype about the WMD was total crap, I cannot begin to discuss anything true or realistic with ya.
It's been analyzed all over the news, reported in every major news source, what more do you need? One-sided viewpoints don't give the true picture but I know you don't wanna hear that. Much less look-n-see....
