*edit* Sorry for the typo, I meant to say New Jersey. For some reason, it will not let me edit the mistake in the title.

hats off to the FBI...and to an alert clerk who was not afraid to get involved... a big to the media for outing him...
....Six of the 10 men on the tape were identified as those arrested in the plot. They were arrested Monday trying to buy automatic weapons from an FBI informant, officials said.
"What concerns us is, obviously, they began conducting surveillance and weapons training in the woods and were discussing killing large numbers of soldiers," said Justice Department spokesman Dean Boyd.
The six were scheduled to appear in U.S. District Court in Camden later Tuesday to face charges of conspiracy to kill U.S. servicemen, said Michael Drewniak, a spokesman for the U.S. Attorney's Office in New Jersey.
....Christie said one of the suspects worked at Super Mario's Pizza in nearby Cookstown and delivered pizzas to the base.
Four of the men were born in the former Yugoslavia, one in Jordan and one in Turkey, officials said. All had lived in the United States for years. Three were in the country illegally; two had green cards allowing them to stay permanently; the other is a U.S. citizen.
goes right back to....this needs to change...
pizza delivery to a military base ??? why??
"If you want to do anything here, there is Fort Dix and I don't want to exaggerate, and I assure you that you can hit an American base very easily," and as for the rest of it..many threads are already started on it...

Ahhh, another group of innocent muslims wrongfully attacked. I'm sure that they just wanted to treat the whole base with pizzas and then peacefully pray...
Besides, it's not their fault that the American Army chose to build a base right there in the middle of Jersey.
I think they should be immediately set free on bail and then instead of punishment we should have a dialog with them. Perhaps even call the UN. Explain to the guys that it is not right to blow up things and that next time they try they may even get some jail time.
Eeeesh.

I hope somebody thinks to ask those that were in the country illegally, how they got here. Very good point.
That should have been the FIRST question.

You gotta love the geniuses. Let's attack a place full of weapons and people whose business is to know how to use them.
Do they get the "dumbest terrorist" award or something?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1983_Beirut_barracks_bombing
The 1983 Beirut barracks bombing was a major incident during the Lebanese Civil War. Two truck bombs struck buildings in Beirut housing U.S. and French members of the Multinational Force in Lebanon, killing hundreds of soldiers, the majority being U.S. Marines.... On October 23 1983, around 6:20 am, a yellow Mercedes-Benz truck drove to Beirut International Airport, where the 1st Battalion 8th Marines, under the U.S. 2nd Marine Division of the United States Marine Corps, had set up its local headquarters. The truck had been substituted for a hijacked water delivery truck. The truck turned onto an access road leading to the Marines' compound and circled a parking lot. The driver then accelerated and crashed through a barbed wire fence around the parking lot, passed between two sentry posts, crashed through a gate and barreled into the lobby of the Marine headquarters. The Marine sentries at the gate were operating under their rules of engagement, which made it very difficult to respond quickly to the truck. By the time the two sentries had locked, loaded, and shouldered their weapons, the truck was already inside the building's entry way.
(some of you...... )

No, but the US Marine compound in Beirut as well as the green zone in Baghdad are to paraphrase places full of weapons with people who know how to use them or in military jargon a target.

Let me state the obvious for those who don't seem to grasp it. ^^^^^
Baghdad is in Iraq. Beirut is in Lebanon. Neither are on US territory which means they are surrounded by predominantly hostile and if not hostile then simply unsympathetic population, making it easy for terrorists to hide, plan and execute.
New Jersey is in the US. The base is surrounded by whom? You got it, Americans. Neither of those Americans want to see their base, what? You got it, attacked. Post 9/11 people have become more vigilant and they are reminded every single day to remain so. All that makes it very hard for geniuses such as these to hide, plan and execute, as evidenced by the fact that a store clerk alerted the authorities.

Something about this whole story is fishy and troubling to me. It's as though there must be a lot more to it, which we don't yet know.
According to the reports I've seen, they weren't going to be blowing anything up, which of course would be the biggest concern, they were going to just shoot a few soldiers, and be rapidly subdued. This is the first I've heard about mortars and grenades.
Seems to me that isn't nearly a big enough dent for radical muslim terrorists to want to perpetrate on American military locations. While they were not affiliated with any terrorist group, (in theory at least), anyone like that would want to make a much bigger splash for the world media to hammer home their cause.
I suspect more information will come out about it pretty soon. There just may turn out to be some sticky fingerprints all over this.

...they made a freaking tape According to articles from the Philly newspapers, the tape isn't exactly a smoking gun -- there's a mention about being sad about not shooting anyone at the Army Navy game, lots of paint ball and some shooting range video. The paper also quotes the US Attorney's office that no one in the group is linked to any type of organized terrorist group, so it certainly looks like these were just a bunch of malcontented idiots.
