Ok, let's hear it.
Personally, I think it was murder. Unfortunately 99.9% of all women who are, or were in abusive relationships are going to automatically side with her, no matter what really transpired. The same goes for the anti-Christians who label every minister as a pedophile, sex fiend, or spousal abuser. Shooting someone in the back of the head while asleep? She had every chance to get out of that relationship, and get help. Just another loss for the judicial system.

While the grand jury indicted on murder charges, the prosecution failed to make its case and she was convicted of manslaughter. Both the Winkler's child testified Mary was not abused by her husband and Mary said as much, so I'm at a loss (other than the initial press which surrounded this story) as to your post.

How does voluntary manslaughter only equal to three years behind bars?

Her sentence was dictated by the sentencing guidelines within her state.

The same goes for the anti-Christians who label every minister as a pedophile, sex fiend, or spousal abuser. And the same goes for every anti-Muslim who labels them all as violent radicals.

Just an FYI, I'm anot an "Anti-Muslim", I'm an "anti-Jihadist".
They're a cancer that needs to be cut from the framework of humanity.
And this broad getting 270 days in a mental institution for walking up to her sleeping husband and blasting him in the back with a shotgun is a disgrace.

I live here, and I consider what she did as murder 1. Like Paris Hilton, somebody really bent the rules to get Winkler off, in this case.
I'm sorry if she was having a bad-hair day, but that doesn't make shooting your husband while he's sleeping, the thing to do to fix it.
I see the whole thing as a signficant miscarriage of justice.

somebody really bent the rules to get Winkler off, in this case. I'm not sure I buy that argument....her sentence, while not in keeping with what she could expect in the State of New York, was within the sentencing guidelines for the State of Kentucky.
I have been looking pretty hard, but have not come across any of the petit jurors stating why, when the grand jury indicted on murder in the first degree, they voted for manslaughter. Many of the press reports on this case indicate Mary Winkler's testimony was pretty convincing.

Maybe you're looking in the wrong place. The Winkler case has nothing to do with the State of Kentucky.
Laws in the south for such things are no less severe than anywhere else. People don't beat a path down here from the Northeast to get away from tough laws. They migrate here because it's cleaner, the weather is so much better, you can have a real tree right in your yard, you can actually have a yard, there's more concern for your fellow man, and there is a lot more hospitality.
Convincing of what? That she was having a bad-hair day?
