I mean full access to the U.S. Right now they have just very limited access.

Democrat Nancy Boyda drafted the letter along with republican Duncan Hunter. Nancy Boyda said she was furious over the plan that Bush is pushing, despite a bill passed by the house almost unanimously that said Bush must comply with numerous requirements before mexican trucks would be allowed full access to the U.S. and Bush seems to be cutting alot of corners in complying with those requirements so he can rush ahead to allow the plan to go into effect against the wishes of many in the house.

i don't see a major problem as long as the trucks are insured with an american insurance entity. and of course the american trucks will be allowed south of the border? of course the drivers would be bonded by an american company so that if there should be accidents/citations then the capitalists can pick up the bill instead of the taxpayer. i drive a big truck so these are just a few ideas that came to mind. i have driven in and out of canada many times, even worked for a canadian co. i don't forsee it being much different. although, i was fired from the canadian co because i was required to be paid in american dollars. perhaps the mexican companies will be required to pay me in american greenbacks? amd of course the american can pay the mexicans in pesos! LOL another thought, if you aren't an american citizen, you get paid in pesos. any other thoughts?

my thoughts are about 7 years old here..but i doubt that anything has changed..

Most Mexican trucks are older and would be more prone to breaking down on the freeways.. the upkeep on them is not as good as the major trucking companies .
read safety reasons, traffic jams,

big trucking companies ( Swift comes to mind here) probably will relocate to Mexico and utilize lower paid Mexican nationals ( who afaik will not need a green card to drive US highways ) as this law will give them the right to be working in the US.
Trucks never drive empty so these lower paid drivers will pick up a load somewhere near where they dropped off the north bound load and drive it somewhere else..eventually ending up back on the Mexican border..this could take three loads or more to accomplish.
read: more US Jobs going south.. and US drivers will have to lower their wages to compete..

Mexican Trucking companies will be non union..
read: one more nail in the teamsters coffin

It is not a two way street..US trucking companies do not want US drivers or their trucks driving in Mexico for fear of hijacking ..US Truck Drivers do not want to drive in Mexico as the laws are different..guilty until proven innocent
read: jail time for anything that one might be charged with...

what this does save..is the time the trailer is spent waiting at the border for a US trucking company to hook up to a trailer that was dropped off by a Mexican trucker/trucking company..and the related fees that are charged..
read: shipping charges for manufacturers located in Mexico will be cheaper as the trailer will not be dropped off by one company..and picked up by another on it's way to wherever it was going...

one world...owned by multinational corporations...

ya know, this would allow much easier access for illegal activities such as drugs and weapons to go back and forth. it won't take but one or 2 major lawsuits for Swift, J B, Schneider, and the big companies to figure out that they better stick with quality in this particular case. the big companies will try to sneak a law on the books that they as a company won't be responsible for the driver, and should a driver be at fault then the driver will be sued. LOL and how will D O T validate the 10 year work history? the big companies are probably working on amending those laws for "outside" drivers. LOL anyway, we know its just big business getting bigger. perhaps if the mexican and american drivers are limited to a 50-100 mile restriction? and like at our ports, DOT and whatever new govt program they come up with, can then be responsible for the cargo. not much we can do about this game except maybe stop pulling that left or right handle in the voting booth.

There are presidential candidates who oppose this Mexican truck deal, if I remember correctly. Duncan Hunter, Tom Tancredo and Ron Paul oppose this if I remember right. Not sure about any of the other candidates. Would be interesting though if in the next debates, each and every one of the candidates was directly asked if they support or oppose this so the American people could see where they all stand.
I'm glad that Wolf Blitzer got every single candidate to respond to whether they would support or oppose English as official language of the U.S.(Obama seemed to get upset at him for asking that question which I found interesting, but not surprising since Obama is opposed to having english as the official language of the U.S. as were all the other democrats except Mike Gravel).
I wish that Wolf also asked each and every one about this Mexican truck plan too.

...The Teamsters are obviously opposed.

...Does anyone find it hypocritical, where politicians like Kennedy, that say they strongly support unions, but at the same time support amnesty for millions to compete against said unions?

I am convinced that if we permit Mexican trucks to have unlimited access to the USA and dont even check them for customs enforcement until they are already at destination USA cities, that the jihadist terrorists will fill a truck with a dirty bomb and we will lose an American city.

Bad idea, those unchecked Mexican Trucks and not so "SmartPorts" where customs enforcement occurs after the truck is already at the destination city.

Bad, bad, ideas all.

Looks like more bad news. Bush is pushing ahead with this and the courts denied an emergency injunction by the Teamsters Union.

I mean full access to the U.S. Right now they have just very limited access.

It has been said that the giant DWI loophole if for suspended and revoked American drivers to obtain Mexican driver's licenses and then drive around town in a bobtail truck (minus the 18 wheeler trailer) as if the DWI convicted offender was a Mexican truck driver about town. The US treaty accords supersede all state laws under the Supremacy Clause so state authorities are helpless and the federal courts would be obligated to hold their nose but enjoin any state criminal enforcement of a DWI offender who is back "on the road again" under color of law when flashing his Mexican Truck Driver's license.

Not to mention the clear and present danger of terrorists smuggling explosive materials and dangerous divices into the interior of America without inspection.

This is worse than Clinton's attempt to lease the Long Beach, California, former Navy Base to the Red Chinese Merchant Marine where again the objections included the capability to transport nuclear device componentry for assembly here. Any blast at Long Beach would have been confined to California, but now these Mexican trucks with cargoes from any nation abroad can legally transport their ticking components into each and every county of the USA.

Here is a case where America has not only voluntarily blinded itself, tied its hands behind its own back, and naturally, and as usual, canot find Uncle Sam's A$$ with both hands.
