NEW YORK - A whisper in Hillary Clinton’s ear had John Edwards on the receiving end of loud blasts from his presidential rivals as he took heat for suggesting to the former first lady that they unite to cull the herd of candidates allowed at debates. Democratic candidate Dennis Kucinich, an Ohio congressman often viewed as a second- to third-tier contender by pundits, ripped Edwards for “a consistent lack of integrity” by suggesting fewer candidates should participate in presidential forums. “This is a serious matter and I’m calling him on it,” Kucinich said. “Whispering, trying to rig an election, then denying what’s going on and making excuses. It all reflects a consistent lack of integrity.”

The real lack of integrity lies in Kucinich implying he is a legitimate candidate worthy of such treatment. If they were truly rigging it, they'd be more worried about Obama than one of the nobodies.
But hey, at least they have front-runners to make these accusations to. That's more than the republicans have.

Kucinich IS a legitimate candidate.
Hillary and Edwards were absolutely wrong is trying to get anyone kicked out of the debates.
They would like to get rid of Kucinich because he tells the truth about what they do and don't do. In other words, they want to shut him up.
I am amazed that anyone would condone this.

Personally I feel all the candidates on both sides who've been in the debates should be allowed to continue on to the rest of the debates up until the primaries and none of them should be excluded. Even if the lesser known candidates aren't going to win, they can put forth important ideas that should be heard by the voters and not silenced.

I would certainly agree that this is no time to be attempting to eliminate anyone. And although Kusenich will never be nominated, I respect quite a few things he has said. Often he's actually a bit of a rebel, venturing off the beaten path, and not just the standard run-of-the-mill politician-candidate. I feel quite similarly about Ron Paul on the Republican side.
I also don't like the feel of cliques forming among various candidates. They should all be standing squarely on their own feel, and supporting their own convictions at this point. Anything less smacks of cronyism.
Just a coupla cents for what it's worth.

bj - I agree - Of course he is a legit candidate - If the QUOTE first tier candidates keep up their lousy performance in the Senate - He will become the front runner! Hillary is getting booed everywhere she goes from the anti war left - Obama has run out of juice= he has nothing to say! It is anyones election. If you remember last time - Dean was THE front runner until he blew a gasket in front of the world !
He deserves to be there as much as anyone. This is a perfect example of the rich elite mentality that exists today!

Dean, Kucinich, Hillary, Obama, Edwards, McCain, Paul, or my personal hopefuls, Leary and Walken. All options are an upgrade from the current administration, I will give you that.
But my belief is that if you know you won't get nominated, as I believe Kucinich does, then why waste time bashing your own party. It's like the old fueds Bobby Dole used to get into. I never saw the point in them either. I think if Bobby had spent less time bashing Reagan and Bush Sr., he'd have at least been a VP, instead of ending his political career on Saturday Night Live.
But if Kucinich wants to make a public spectacle of himself and his party, that is his right. It worked for the Republicans for 12 years, so who knows...?

Given the frontloading of the primary process, I don't believe any candidate should be excluded. That said, I agree with kjac and Kucinich seems to be spending too much time upbraiding this Democratic colleagues rather than talking about the issues.

eastham - he should be stirring the pot - the approval rating for the Congress is 17% - down from 35% just after the elections - Since Billary and Obama are Senators - somebody better listen to something!

Does Kucinich have a stance on any issues? How does he stand on abortion? Gun control? The Patriot Act? Health Care? Finding and killing Osama? Since both republicans and democrats are on the verge of ending Bush's Iraq war, and they've already gotten the minimum wage increase, these are the biggest issues for them in my mind. These are issues that need addressed.

Me gusta el Kuci! Kuci, Kuci, who?
He makes more sense and is more POTUSA material than HM Hillary.
A vote for Hilliary is a vote for the Clinton/Bush dynasty that has ruled the US since 1980.
Kuci's wife would make a HOT First Lady...Playboy are you ready for the First Lady spread?

Iams, you need to read polls other than from National Review. Here is the most recent poll data on Congress.
Poll Numbers
These numbers would go up considerably if the troops come out of Iraq.

I truly believe the next year and a half, congress will be judged simply on two things. Their ability to end the war and keep Bush in check. So far, they haven't ended the war, but they did hand him his first real defeat. (imimigration bill)
Going on half a year now, they haven't proven to be any closer to ending Bush's war in Iraq than they were in January. I hear a lot of talk, but haven't seen anything of substance on the matter. America has spoken, it's up to the people they elected to act. My boss at work has a sign on his desk that applies here.
You can be replaced!

eastham - whatever - still lower than Bush - Still down significantly from the election - My prediction - the announcement by Mailiki was no accident - the COngress will not pass anything significant soon enough - WHile they are on vacation in Sept - Patreus will give his report and then Bush will announce a withdrawal - so the cowards that were elected to end the war will get snookered! Then their ratings will not go up!
