LEFTY and MARY and whoever else is picking on each other for any reason, please stop now! (5:33 AM EDST) 
just glancing through the threads from the last few days shows that a lot of them deserve to be either deleted, locked or shredded. it's a pain in the neck and wrecks continuity. 
start from scratch right now and attempt to be civil to one another from now on (this means everybody!) or entire topics are going to be trashed. just skimming thru things already gave me a headache and that's not a good thing.

I think that this should be handled in the same way that my elementary school principal would have handled it.
First you both get called into the office then he'd have you sit down on chairs and make you extend both hands forward (palms facing down) then he would pull out the wooden ruler and smack the tops of your hands 5 times.
If you got called back into the office again he had a 3 foot long oak paddle with holes in it that quickly got warmed up by swatting your butts. 
I wonder where "Dr. U" is these days when we need him?

Ooops, there's a warning and it IS for me. Guess this time I ain't gettin' no flowers from the Mod. 
As far as the principal's office goes, I intimately knew their interiors in each school I attended. Just a mild case of ADD. Not MY fault.

My question is this;
Why are you deleting , locking or shredding threads, instead of barring the people that are causing the problem? It is always the same people that generate the problems.

because we try to treat people like adults, which is not always effective, obviously. if it were possible to lock certain people out of a specific forum, it would be done. but the techs haven't come up with that option yet.

Thanks for the info.
Could you give us some advice as how to best handle insults, personal attacks, name calling, put downs, lies, etc.?

Actually it was.
This is why. There are some of us that are nasty. I admit that I am often times and I never even tried to pretend to be the epitome of niceness. In turn, I never reported anyone because I figure if I dish it out, I have to be able to take it.
But what. There's a whole bunch of middle-aged high school kids on this forum who dish it out just fine, but run to the Mod every time they find themselves on the receiving end. Since no one reports them, Mod has no idea that they aren't nearly as innocent as they like everyone to think.
And then I get called to the principal's office at least once a week while the whiners get awarded lollipops.
So I started reporting too. As despicable as I find it, I don't see how else to level the high school yard, because the mentality here IS that of high school kids for the most part.

Does anyone but me think that people are getting too whiny and thin skinned? Come on folks, if you dish it, take it. I believe that the censorship (moderators) have over done it a bit. There were a lot of regulars that were fun and entertaining that never show up anymore. Anybody wonder why?

Mag, Mary is quite entertaining, and she's gotten back to being a regular. I especially like her interactions with steve. It's like watching the Honeymooners on acid.
I did notice there for a while when I come home from work there would be a new locked thread every morning. But I assumed it was because the posters were getting more belligerent.
For the most part, I find entertainment in the insults. But there are certain lines people shouldn't cross. And it seems the same people keep crossing them every week.
And no, I'm not talking about Mary.

I don't want to talk about steve. I got to like him since he started being a little more creative with insults. Now I can't bring myself to efficiently insult him anymore.

Funny's one thing, just downright calling someone a liar out of nowhere isn't necessary. If someone states an untruth, call them on it. A lot of it's going to be colored by what you believe, and not necessarily outright lies...but a statement like that out of nowhere is a personal attack, period.
Oh, and Mag - maybe they actually got lives?
