Barak Obama is highly educated, served as a state legislator and now as United States Senator. We have elected men to the highest office with less experience.

It is a somber day when among the field of Democrat and Republican candidates in the Presidential primaries that not one war Hero or person of grace and stature as a statesman is anywhere among the choices.

In 2008, the Office of the President chases no one, but it appears that of the choices that we have, all are chasing it. Hopefully whoever clinches the prize will rise to the occasion and become great in their own right.

I am surprised that the list of humdrum wannabes doesn't include Jimmy Carter wanting back in and also former Vice Presient Dan Quayle handing out tater tots at rallies and pontificating that his 12 Years in Congress and years as Vice President cancel Jimmy Carter's 4 years of Presidential incompetence having the worst "Misery Index" in history.

2008. The Year the Midgets all came out in full force in the race for the Oval Office!

I have been supporting Hillary Clinton. But, she's running on a platform of status quo. And has the nerve to criticized Obama for not being that experienced.

couldn't agree more, Onoudn. That criticism drove me nuts, man. yeah she's experience and had the guts to vote for that war in Iraq. she's no different from Bush. well maybe she's better but all I can in her is fraud. You should've seen the way she dodged questions during the democratic debate. As much as I concur that she's a great and experienced politician, she's no good for us.

Obama on the other side of the spectrum is less experienced but has great education and has really true charisma that is found in great presidents.

From Wiki:

A bigot is a prejudiced person who is intolerant of opinions, lifestyles, or identities differing from his or her own.

Don't worry, Para. You still qualify.

I don't think most people will be voting for color. They will be voting for the person.

(emphasis mine)

I believe a rather large number of people would wonder why you discount McCain's service record by saying such a thing. I believe most would agree with me that Senator McCain is a true war hero.

I wonder if anyone remembers Colin Powells refusal to run for President. It had a lot to do with his wife and her belief that he would become a target for assasination. They are still a lot of sick people out there. As far as America has come since Martin Luther King Jr was shot, I still believe there are those out there who hate the idea of a black President so much they would consider assasination. JMO

O - I don't get your conspiracy theory here. Of all of the theories none that I heard connected either of the Kennedys assassinations to Racism. Nor was Malcolm X assassination. Dr. Kings of course was.

I do not think that this is an issue for Powell or Obama. Powell was never a politician and is too honest to be one. He could never play the game.

Conspiracy theory? Ono didn't put forth anything about a conspiracy theory. He said, and I believe rightly, there are enough people who hold strongly prejudiced opinions about blacks that they might felt driven to action by a black man being put in the white house. Famous people being murdered has nothing to do with it. Every time a person is killed because of their race alone, it points out those people are still with us, as in the case of the black man in Jasper, Texas being dragged to death.

The question is whether there are enough of those nuts out there that are driven enough and intelligent enough to actually manage to come up with a workable plan and execute it. There is no question of whether or not they exist or whether a black president might be targeted because of his race.

no - since you seem to have overlooked the OP - here is a portion of it for you -

I can remember clearly the assassinations of the Doctor Martin Luther King, Malcom X, the Black Patchers, JFK, and his brother Bobby Kennedy. There was an inherent message in the murders of these civil rights icons. For many African-American that message was that Martin Luther Kings dream of cultural equality was just that, nothing more than an idealistic dream.

Nightowl001....I agree with you! King being killed was definitely race inspired! Malcom X I believe is different because of the turmoil in the religion he was in! He was putting forth a view the boss did not agree with!

Robert Kennedys murder was a racial killing. John Kennedys was because of a disgruntled american, not important and no where to go! Well, he became important and was murdered himself before he got to enjoy the lime light!

Knowing our country as we all do we know it is dangerous for anyone to run for President! But, an African-American would be in dire straights!

Since I firmly believe we never did apprehend the real killer of JFK, and Sirhan Sirhan could never give a cogent answer as to why he killed Bobby Kennedy, these leaders in the Civil Rights movements may or may not have lost their lives, in part or solely, because of their views on racial equality. Whether or not their deaths were a direct result of racist action doesn't negate the effect their deaths, and the others, had on the civil rights movements in the 1960s. As Ono said, this left the black community feeling largely as though they had lost their strongest voices of advocacy for equal rights. The "inherent message" he speaks of, the sense that the Civil Rights movement was silenced, and without strong leaders MLK's dream would remain just that, a dream. He goes on to question whether we have evolved enough as a society to accept a black man as President, or whether there are still enough racists out there that they will, individually or in concert, seek to remove any black President by assassination. I still see no "conspiracy theory" behind his question.

NO - Lets say I disagree - If there is an undercurrent of hatred for the civil rights movement and the threat of assassinations I would think that Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton would at least have broken legs by now.

So did you forget that John McCain was a prisoner of war, or what?

IAM did you know that the Dept of Homeland Security has signed off on providing secret service agents to assist with the protecton of Obama due to threats on his life ? http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18474444/

And Al Sharpton has survived an assasination attempt. Both he and the Rev. Jesse Jackson have had death threats over the firing of Don Imus. They've had to increase their security staff because of it.

As far as Sharpton and Jackson are concerned - I am not at all surprised - However they have been around a long time and never been touched. Most of the tip tier candidates have Secret Service protection.

There is a large degree of difference in the passion engendered in the animosity toward someone one can view as a loudmouth on television too often with a viewpoint you can make fun of, and someone who you see as similar ascending to the office of President. People who will sit around their fold-down tables in their trailers making jokes about Sharpton and Jackson, or quietly informing their golfing buddies they'll no longer do business with them if either of them are admitted as members to the country club, would probably feel much more driven to do something drastic if Obama were elected to the Presidency. It's one thing to "let them" rise to a position of celebrity, and quite another to let them sit in a seat of Power, a situation many of them would find intolerable. .

I'm not surprised either on the Sharpton and Jackson front. But I must say I was a little surprised to hear that the secret service was protecting Obama. But thats just at the level of protection this early in the game.

O - Look I posted before that I do not think that a Black can get elected to President - it is sad. I lived through all of the assassinations and the heated years of the Civil Rights Movement - that was a long time ago - There was little progress for much of the country.

The best example is Harold Ford. He should be the Senator from TN. He was a Congressman for years - very moderate guy, sharp, from a long time political family - yet he lost the election to a relatively unknown local guy with no DC experience. In the 20th Century there were two Black Senators - the first was elected in 1975. It is sad, very sad.

The Democrats profess to be the Party of the minorities yet they do little to help. When Michael Steele ran for Senate in MD the Democrats used racial slurs like Oreo and slave to thwart his election.

It is very sad!

I remember Harold Ford. Who was it that used slurs agaist Michael Steele ? And I know how much you don't like Hillary but I think she would be good for civil rights. That's why she getting so much support from the african-american community. She is even more popular than her husband or Obama in some communities.

O - the entire Maryland Democratic Party did - including Steny Hoyer - they NEVER apologized. It is things like this that helped me see how phony the Dems are - and it makes me feel better that I changed Party affiliation.

Steele is a good man and was qualified. Once the Dems here felt threatened they went after him like it was 1950.

Very sickening!

O - like her husband - all that Hillary will give the Blacks is lip service.

Do yo know the story of Bill Clinton and Lani Guaneiri?

How about what the Dems did to Clarence Thomas?

The way the Dems have treated qualified Blacks like Steele - Thomas and Guaneiri should have caused OUTRAGE in the Black Community. Few did anything!
