This tinfoil hat seems like he was VISITED one too many times! He got 2% of the votes and wants a recount?

How did this jerk ever get elected to Congress?

CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - Democrat Dennis Kucinich, who won less than 2 percent of the vote in the New Hampshire primary, said Thursday he wants a recount to ensure that all ballots in his party's contest were counted. The Ohio congressman cited "serious and credible reports, allegations and rumors" about the integrity of Tuesday results.

Deputy Secretary of State David Scanlan said Kucinich is entitled to a statewide recount. But, under New Hampshire law, Kucinich will have to pay for it. Scanlan said he had "every confidence" the results are accurate.

In a letter dated Thursday, Kucinich said he does not expect significant changes in his vote total, but wants assurance that "100 percent of the voters had 100 percent of their votes counted."

Kucinich alluded to online reports alleging disparities around the state between hand-counted ballots, which tended to favor Sen. Barack Obama, and machine-counted ones that tended to favor Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton. He also noted the difference between pre-election polls, which indicated Obama would win, and Clinton's triumph by a 39 percent to 37 percent margin.

Candidates who lose by 3 percentage or less are entitled to a recount for a $2,000 fee. Candidates who lose by more must pay for the full cost. Kucinich's campaign said it was sending the $2,000 fee to start the recount.

Scanlon said his office had received several phone calls since Tuesday, mostly from outside the state, questioning the results. New Hampshire's voting machines are not linked in any way, which Scanlon says reduce the likelihood of tampering with results on a statewide level. Also, the results can be checked against paper ballots.

"I think people from out of state don't completely understand how our process works and they compare it to the system that might exist in Florida or Ohio, where they have had serious problems," he said. "Perhaps the best thing that could happen for us is to have a recount to show the people that ... the votes that were cast on election day were accurately reflected in the results. And I have every confidence that will be the case."

Maybe he's like Crudy and honestly believes he is more than he actually is, which is a sideshow novelty attraction.

This may not be such a bad idea, frankly..

We know voter fraud has prevailed in past elections. We also know there have been a lot of problems with the voting machines in the past and with whether or not they had paper trails for verification. It wouldn't be particularly surprising if something like that were the case in NH. The final outcome of the NH primaries was indeed very strange.

There's little doubt Kucinich didn't win it, but that's not to suggest everything is always altogether according to Hoyle either. Perhaps mistakes could have been made. There's a lot to be said for soliciting a second opinion..

Why is it that the Dihm's are the one's that always call for recounts?

Their MO is to recount as many times as it takes until they get the results that they want.

Thank God that there are courts smart enough to see through this sleezy ploy...

He may be ugly, but he must have something to keep that long-legged redhead around. Either he has the dik-of-death or a bionic tongue and can breathe through his ears

I agree with MM-
If there are clear and persuasive signs of something wrong, it isn't DIM (why name-call-how childish-for ONCE can't adults just discuss?) to question it.

It is a possibility that Kucinich, having experience in that circle of people, sees a better President in Obama, and thinks he got gyped.

NOT that he thought he himself could move up.

As a candidate, Kucinich has every right to request a recount if he has reason to believe the (so far) accepted numbers are in error, not necessarily because he believes he would have been declared the winner.

As far as Democrats calling for recounts, 1) Why would a Republican call for a recount in the Democratic primary? 2) Maybe Republicans never call for recounts in close elections because they know it would just show they lost by a wider margin than they claimed!

This from blogger Ed Morrissey of Captain's blog:

The one campaign that might, and who actually has the cash to pay for a recount, hasn’t asked for one. Why not? Because the Barack Obama team doesn’t make decisions by listening to the fever swamps. They understand that the difference between the machine-counted precincts and the hand-counted precincts is that the former tend to be in the bigger cities such as Nashua and Manchester where Hillary had significant polling leads before the primary. The hand-counted precincts were in areas known to be Obama territory.

Morrissey raises a valid point.

my thoughts on this is....why not?..what will it hurt... a transparent election proccess is good for the prople...

as to motives...

I have no issue with how NH did things... but.. this will set the stage for recounts in the other states I have potential issues with..

I am begining to see a pattern in my thought process .. it the republican thug machine is against it... then I am all for it... if the democrats are against it,.. I proceed to ask myself... "why not"...

the solution to stop this is... for the republicans to clean up their own house before worrying about others...

Sure, let Kucinich pay for it. I don't think it will affect the outcome.

Oh, but it might: when it is discovered that he actually got 2.1% of the vote in the 41st most populous state in the US, it could well be the snowball of momentum that carries him to the White House!

You've sure got to admire ole Dennis for having the guts to actually talk about his experience with a UFO in the debates, huh? When everybody else was terrified of even going anywhere near that subject, fearing for their "image".

However most people, and even the government, know all to well that we are not at all likely to be alone in the entire universe. And like us, clearly some of the others would travel the galaxy also. That's just fundamental logic.

No doubt some of the other candidates have had similar experiences at some point as well. But they sure weren't about to discuss it.

Kucinich is not doing this because he thinks he will get a big jump in his votes. He is doing it simply because of credible concerns. Also, he is being excluded from yet another debate. Corporate America is doing everything they can do to keep anyone from hearing what he has to say.

Following is a copy of his statement.

URGENT: Help defend the rights of American voters

Friends,

Once again, America is faced with questions about the integrity of machine-counted ballots and about the rights of Americans to decide for themselves who they should be allowed to vote for in this crucial Presidential election.

In New Hampshire, it's a question of whether votes were counted or manipulated. In Nevada, it's a question of whether the GE-owned NBC television network should have the power to decide who your choices should be for President.

The vote counts in New Hampshire are suspicious. And, today's decision by NBC to exclude Dennis from next week's Presidential debate - even though he met the criteria - is outrageous. And, we need your help to deal with both of these matters.

Because of the unexplained disparities between hand-counted and machine-counted ballots in New Hampshire, Dennis has asked for a recount. "I am not making this request in the expectation that a recount will significantly affect the number of votes that were cast on my behalf," Dennis said in his letter to the Secretary of State of New Hampshire. But, he cited “serious and credible reports, allegations and rumors" that question the integrity of the machine-controlled process.

If New Hampshire agrees to a recount, this campaign will have to pay for it. And we can't investigate what happened in New Hampshire - or protect every other state in the Union - without your help.

Likewise, NBC and MSNBC have made a corporate decision to exclude the one and only voice who represents you and those things that the Democratic Party should stand for. If you are as outraged as we are, feel free to call:

NBC/MSNBC at 212 664-4444 and ask for the Comment Line or
email NBC/MSNBC at {email address removed}
PLEASE share this message with everyone you know so that the voice of the people will be heard and their votes WILL be counted.

Strength through Peace,
