One doctor is GP and the next can be the doctor carrying out the proceedure .. Glad that they are readily available and glad that people have to seek medical advice before as this means they are informed and can make an informed choice ...
I agreed with you
yes I know ... ( from previous post )
the continuance of the pregnancy would involve risk, greater than if the pregnancy were terminated, of injury to the physical or mental health of the pregnant woman; Girls just say it would depress them to continue .. simple as that here anyway ...as 1 in 4 conceived babies is aborted it shows how easy it is .... not saying that is right or wrong but its easy.
Some women go on to have three or four ....
Abortion in the UK • One in three women has an abortion in her lifetime • 76 per cent of the British population support a woman’s right to choose.
British Medical Assoc Figures
http://www.bma.org.uk/ap.nsf/Content/AbortionTimeLimits~Background~Stats
OMG abortion rate 16.5 % at some points .... thats bad that there should be so many unwanted pregnancies
David Steel believes that the abortion legislation he piloted through Parliament 40 years ago is being used "irresponsibly" by women who treat it as "long-stop contraception".
The statistics appear to bear out his concerns. There were 194,000 terminations in England and Wales last year, a four per cent increase on the previous year. The legislation's requirement that a termination can be agreed only on medical grounds is widely flouted.
In practice, there is abortion on demand on social grounds. A last resort has become, for many, a routine procedure.

How can you do that? Write something yourself, then quote it and agree with it?
Am I missing something here?

yes I know ... the continuance of the pregnancy would involve risk, greater than if the pregnancy were terminated, of injury to the physical or mental health of the pregnant woman;
Great Britain Current law is based on the Abortion Act of 1967, amended in 1990, which permits abortion for a variety of reasons if certified by two physicians. During the first 24 weeks of pregnancy, abortion is available to save the life of the woman, to protect her physical and mental health, in cases of fetal abnormality and for social or economic reasons. Due to a broad interpretation of this law, abortion is available virtually upon request in Great Britain.
Not sure how I would feel about it if I witnessed one over 24 weeks ...

blondino - if the number of abortions in the UK is in the 600,000 range, that is a staggering number.
The population of the UK is in approx 60 million with 600,000 abortions
The population in the USA is approx - 300 million with appros 1.2 million abortions.
Must be some Medical guys telling fibs there!

IAM, you need to base the percentage of abortions on number of pregnancies, not population. The rate is about 11% in the US, I think it's similar in the UK, but as stated elsewhere, many women come there for abortions from more restrictive countries.

heaven - I would except that in the UK they give the abortion pill away in schools for free like candy.
The abortion rate their does explain why the most popular name for a baby in the UK last year was Mohammed. THis is true!
I am sure that Muslims are not aborting babies at such a rate. Most religious folks like Jews and Muslims try to have many children!

I am not really trying to get into this debate, but I think I should point out that Blondino posted the following:
Abortion Figures Shame This Country
Question: How many babies were born in the UK in 2006? Answer: 635,679
Question: How many abortions were carried out in 2006? Answer: 194,000 (up 4% since 2005) So, if you're arguing about 600,000 abortions per year, that's the incorrect figure to be using for your arguments. ("Arguing" simply being used as making your side of the debate.)

So you mean, NightOwl, that the UK has a lower rate of abortions than in the US (i.e. 3.2 per 1000 population, compared to 4.0 per 1000 population in the USA, or 20% fewer per-capita abortions), and they've got comprehensive sex education.
Hmmmm... Wonder if there's a connection?

NO - you are right - I misread it. That makes better sense. I cant imagine that the Brits are that much more active that here! Again in the UK the abortion pill is legal and given away freely in schools. That may be a good idea.

NO - you are right - I misread it
Heaven rate is 11-16 % here too depending on area .. and we have ladies coming from other countries too ... figures are separate for Scotland ...... and England & Wales because Scotland has its own law and own parliament ...
Note to posters .. iam has to turn every subject into his own personal little anti Muslim rant .. leave you to form your own opinions on his behaviour and his negativity on other societies ...this is about abortion but hey as I am here and a muslim lets rant about UK and Muslims ... .. yawn ..so no longer bothered by him
Giving women the morning-after pill makes no difference to either the pregnancy rate or the abortion rate, a family planning expert says today. http://www.guardian.co.uk/medicine/story/0,,1873077,00.html
link to UK s most popular boys name of last five years .. Jack & Joshua Thomas
http://www.statistics.gov.uk/specials/babiesnames_boys.asp
and for Scotland Lewis ,. Jack & Callum http://www.babycentre.co.uk/pregnancy/naming/topnames2005/
Thanks for clarifying Nightowl

It's that math disability rearing it's head again. Or his reading comprehension disability. Or something.
If he'd read the third sentence of the link, instead of just the header, he might have caught on that they compared relative positions between the two names (i.e. more people are named Mohammed/Muhammed than George, but that there are about twenty different proper English names that are more popular), and not absolute positions on the list.

The most common name in the world I believe is Mohammed.
Blondino - your names are the most popular chosen by year and not the most common name.
I think Mohammed is the 2nd most common name in the UK, if not the first.
I will of course try to find facts, but I am usually right.
Seriously, I heard it a few months ago, I will find the source though.

The most common name in the uk for babies 2008 is misschoos, see above link.
'Top Ten Names' and 'most common' are completely different.

I'm strangely reminded of the "Bruce" sketch from Monty Python...
First Bruce Is your name not Bruce, then? Michael No, it's Michael. Second Bruce That's going to cause a little confusion. Third Bruce Mind if we call you 'Bruce' to keep it clear? So 5% of the UK's population chooses to name a significant portion of their children variations of Mohammed.
And the other 95% chooses to spread their childrens' names among a few hundred different choices.
And this is a crisis because... Why?
