A TKO??

I thought it was a pretty spirited contest and one of the higher quality debates to date.. Perhaps a little too much personal tit for tat here and there, but they were called on that by Edwards, and it was substantive in any case. They all got pretty good shots in about the inadequacies of The Shrub and ole SureShot.. Didn't you think?

I didn't see anybody go down for the count though. Quite the contrary. CNN seems to feel Obama may have won overall. I would suggest it was pretty close all 3 ways, without a clear winner.. They all did quite well. You could tell however that exhaustion is becoming a factor.

What I did find a bit odd, is that they all feel the winner of the 3 will be up against McCain in the General. Since Romney is a good ways ahead of McCain overall, and it's beginning to widen, I found that assertion a bit surprising.

I don't look for McCain to take South Carolina. There are a lot of retired Vets there, for one thing. And, he didn't do at all well in 2000.. He can thank Karl Rove and the Bush Dirty Tricks Gossip Machine for that one.

I agree that CNN should get a check from the Republicans! FOX couldnt have done better.

Sorry, I was thinking Florida..

Yes that's true. Somehow McCain did take SC.. Interestingly enough.

Glad to see you are on your toes.. Taunt away.. I suspect you've heard: Sticks and stones and such stuff. As long as they call me for lunch.

Anyway, no clear winner this evening, seemed to me. I doubt anybody scored any huge upsets. Edwards probably gained a few points.

must have been VERY confused! What did Rove and Bush do in FL in 2000?

MM - you can confess - your NYT got thrown in the BUSHES!

That is a better excuse!

Let me break this down to the nitty-gritty for you. I want you to get it..

The original message was about SC and the situation there, which he did surprising win. Got that? . . . . . . . Excellent! Let's go on..

The primaries which are coming up soon, are in FL.. Not SC. As stated previously. I said SC by mistake, as I also stated.. But meant to say FL.. Nothing about Bush or Rove relative to McCain and the Florida primaries. How about that? All set with that too? Great!

Okay! So are you back on-track now? I could draw you a flow-chart I suppose.. I do hate confusing you so.. But it's soooo hard not to!!

I eally don't want either of em, but ya gotter be honest bout it.

I was hoping for Edwards/Paul er at least Edwards/Huckabee but It don't looj like its gonna happen

. Obama is ahead in the polls. I think he will get the most votes, but I think Bill will call in a few favors and hillary will win. IN NH & Nevada, Obama was ahead. As a math-o-fact Hillary was crying her crocodile tear the night before cause every one was saying her goose was cooked. Somehow, she won in both places.

The general election are ran byt the gov and is closely monitored fer fairness. The primaries are ran byt the parties and however they wanna do it it.

The primaries are crooked, and the demo machinery is behind hillary

While I can't speak for caucuses, primaries like general elections are still under the state boards of elections.

Poll numbers can't beat organization on the ground in either a primary or a general election. If you have a good get out the vote (GOTV) effort, you will do well. It's why Ron Paul does so poorly and McCain is doing well. McCain, back in the earliest days of the campaign had the best organization on the ground.

Bloodbath? I watched the entire late replay of the debate last night. I didn't see any blood. I saw some blood pressures going up... I saw a little more in the way of personal attacks than discussion of the issues than I'd like. I didn't see anyone talking about some of the things I'd like to see them talking about.

I think Obama was hurt by his lame explanation about why he voted "present" on so many bills in the Illinois legislature. His answers left people like me wondering just how the hell they conduct business in Illinois, when he said the practice there was voting present when one would have voted for the bill, but had reservations. Maybe I'm too simplistic, but if there is something in a bill you can't live with, even one provision, no matter how good the rest of the bill is, you vote no. If there are provisions in the bill you don't like, but you think it is the best bill that can be written and passed at the time, you vote yes. I think thinking people are wondering if Obama thinks that making inspirational speeches and "leading" are all it takes to do the job.

It's only my percpetion, but Hillary looked like she was fighting back a bit (a glimpse of the general election tactics?) and more than willing to go toe-to-toe, Edwards looked like he was a little embarrassed that things had become so personal rather than substantive and kept trying to bring it back to issues, and Obama came across as actually whining just a bit ("I don't know which one of you I'm running against sometimes"), and when he tried to "fight back," he didn't seem to have the fire in his belly. Although, I have to say that doesn't mean when the gloves came off he ran and hid behind the ref. But he certainly looked like he was covering rather than punching back. Hillary punched back.

On a purely personal note, I kind of miss the days when debates were a bit more civil. I was actually a bit jarred when Hillary came onstage and greeted her opponents by their first names, and they all referred to each other in kind. Once upon a time, that would have been seen as very disrespectful. They would have referred to each other as mister or mizz and referred to "my opponent," etc. Chivalry may occasionally prove it is still alive, but gentility has certainly gone the way of the dodo.

What little bit I caught was way too personal. I don't care to hear either of these candidates point fingers and say "you did too say that."

The winner last night was Edwards.

If you want to see a "bloodbath" google the debate between George Galloway and Christopher Hitchens at Baruch College. Hitchens was browbeaten and had big sweat stains down his shirt before it was over. I lost track how many times (and ways) Galloway called Hitchens a drunk.

I think you're right Katt. I found Edwards' answer to the question about MLK to be the most on-point.
