Thompson officially withdrew his name from candidacy a short while ago.
In his statement, Thompson says, "I hope that my country and my party have benefited from our having made this effort." He didn't say whether he would endorse any of his former rivals. He was one of a handful of members of Congress who supported John McCain in 2000 against George W. Bush.

ATLANTA - In a sign of the financial difficulties facing Republican Mike Huckabee, his presidential campaign said Tuesday that top advisers are working without pay and some aides have left.

Well, we have to thin the herd! I love it when the "nutcases" start thinning first!

Everyone was wondering if he would withdraw following his bizarre speech in South Carolina.
Huckabee's campaign reminds me of Pat Robertson's, who also did well in Iowa and then was out of the race several weeks later.

S'long, Fred! See ya at the movies! Now he can devote more time to running the Missus back and forth to Cheerleader practice. . . . . . (OkOk.. sorry!)
Everyone was wondering if he would withdraw following his bizarre speech in South Carolina. Who? Thompson or the HuckSter? And depending on that, what was the nature of the bizarre speech? Do you mean where Huckleberry wanted to rewrite the Constitution to fit his perception of God's Word?
In a way I kind of hate to see Thompson withdraw. Although I found out more about where he was coming from in the campaign and I wasn't thrilled about that. I don't really think he was all that interested anyway, he never fared nearly as well as was projected, and I never thought he was very well versed on the issues
Also he kind of diminished his position early on by his very vigorous verbal assault on Micheal Moore, (whether you like Moore or not isn't the issue). It cheapened his stance as a professional and a potential president..

And he won't be going back to Law and Order. In Fred's absence, Sam Waterston got a promotion and there's a new assistant DA.
