McCain looks better and better.
It is very unusual for a split party like the Dems to win the Presidential election.
McCain 08!

And there goes the last reasonably good shot at Border Control..
But Romney didn't have very much going for him anyway, other than a pretty good tan I guess. He seemed oddly smart in some ways, but rather clueless at the same time. A pretty strange combination.
Although in my view, he was head and shoulders above McCain..

Now who is being promised what behind the scenes?? Probably nothing. Romney & McCain really don't like one another. The thing is that Romney has been bank rolling his campaign out of his own pocket. Being the good business man that he is, he decided to cut his losses. His chance of winning the nomination, was virutally nill at this point and by pulling out now, he will save millions.
Besides, by bowing out, he leaves in good graces. Keep in mind that the second strongest candidate in the repub primaries, tends to get the nomination, the next time around. It worked for Reagan, Bush, Dole & Bush. Given McCain's age, it is very likely that even if he is elected, it will only be for a single term. By getting out the race now, Romney will likely be the Repub front runner 2012.

...Just as the Dems buried Dean in 2004, the Reps buried Romney and behind someone they know cannot win... McCain cannot beat Obama who has the charisma, intelligence and public appeal, nor Hillary who has the bank roll; for now.
...We can talk about it until the cows come home, but politics has become a science and the powers to be have already decided, maneuvered and have everything in place.
...Absent of any major stumbles, odds are for Obama and growing by diverting funds from Hillary, who even with a campaign surplus, is for some reason and now dipping into her own pocket. I would expect pledged donations have slowed down and/or being diverted to Obama.

Romney was the first piece of clip-art to run for president.
Actually, it doesn't matter if they like eachother. This isn't an est meeting, and history is full of VPs their president couldn't stand.
Given the booing McCain received yesterday, despite requests from the organizers of the CPAC conference to the attendees not to boo McCain, I think that the powers that be within the Republican party may try to force Romney as a running mate.
edit for typo

Romney had his run and simply didn't garner the necessary support. Why? I suspect because the things that turned me off about him probably did the same for others: his record of flip-flopping and endless quest for votes by trying to please everyone. I voted for McCain in the Michigan primary because I thought he was the straightest shooter in the bunch. The Dems penalized Michigan for moving up our primary by shutting out practically all candidates except Hillary, so I didn't vote for that side of the ticket. As for the general election, I'm hoping Obama wins the nomination because I'd vote for him.

OK Mitt....save your coins....see ya in 2012! Well hopefully, by then, we'll have some better choices than we have this time around..
Two out of three of these candidates are staunchly pro-Illegal Immigration. Both McCain and Obama creating legislation to promote Massive Amnesty for Illegals! While the other one remains marginal-at-best on the subject.
(That is, no longer considering Ron Paul or the HuckSter as viable candidates, of course).

Pretty good hair too. Much better than McCain. When was the last time we elected a bald president? Remember - Ford was not elected.
Romney will be back in 2012 if McCain loses this election.

Leave it to Kansas. The Democratic caucuses last Tuesday showed 33,000 people turning out to vote, with Obama taking the state rather decisively. Tonight, fewer than 20,000 Republicans turned out for their caucus, in a state that is supposed to be overwhelmingly Republican! That's fewer Republican votes than Obama alone got in the Democratic caucus!
Interestingly, Romney got 653 votes.
(This is such a backward place sometimes.)
If this keeps up, the Repbulicans may well BE worried that Kansas will NOT be a red state come November. That'll be the first time in 44 years. (Yeah, I know. Kansas went to LBJ in '64. See above.)
