This Texas State Senator goes dumb on Chris Matthews with this simple question. He looks as dumb as Miss Teen North Carolina did trying to explain maps to us!
Can anyone name any of his accomplishments?

is it a resume contest now or what?
Bush accomplished a lot before running. yeah he deserves respect for that but what has he actually done worthwhile in the white house apart from giving his party a bad name?

Nice link, Katts. Thanks for sharing.
I know his resume is not earth-shattering, IAM, but he's one year younger than me and has already accomplished some incredible things, as Katts link attests. I'm pretty sure nobody on here has accomplished as much in comparison.

Furthermore, heretofore - This is not about Obama - it is about the fact that his supporters are blindly following him and are regurgitating talking points.
Watch the Chris Matthews video -
He plays stump the chump and wins with a tough questions like -
"Can you tell me what he has ever accomplished?"

Mo, our thoughts kinda always concur
In the Illinois State Senate, Barack worked with both Democrats and Republicans to help working families get ahead by creating programs like the state Earned Income Tax Credit, which in three years provided over $100 million in tax cuts to families across the state....thanks to his ability to organise and unite. something clearly seen in this election
He also pushed through an expansion of early childhood education
He also fought to help Illinois veterans get the disability pay they were promised.
In the U.S. Senate, he has focused on tackling the challenges of a globalized, 21st century world with fresh thinking and a politics that no longer settles for the lowest common denominator.
He cosponsored a law that was passed with Republican Tom Coburn, a measure to rebuild trust in government by allowing every American to go online and see how and where every dime of their tax dollars is spent. He has also been the lead voice in championing ethics reform that would root out Jack Abramoff-style corruption in Congress.
As a junior senator, what else do you want from this guy?

this is a most excellent point to ponder. perhaps each person might present what their favorite politician has done with their hands besides wave them about while talking. we can of course start with Dubya and work our way down, or is that "up"? LOL the point is simple. these people talk, thats all, just talk. habitat for humanity is a reasonable example. a lot of hands on activities there. talking accomplishes very little unless those you are talking to are easily deceived. perhaps 18 y/o soldiers? perhaps 16 y/o chubettes? all ya need as a talker is the right audience. ask any holy roller preacher.

Iam, you always have McCain...
...by the way, he has a huge accomplishment at the moment that NO ONE running can attest to. He is bridging the complexion gap and broadening the full understanding of WHAT an American IS, REPRESENTS, and CAN be.
....also....HE HAS THE WORLD rooting for him; not just AFRICA
i think the question you wanted to really pose is the following:
WHEN Obama becomes president. What does that mean for relations with Israel?
now before you give a motie and try a rebuttal....ask yourself the following question: What hasn't Obama done?
DUHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

Just speaking internationally….
Some, in other threads, have touched upon his overwhelming popularity around the world, but I don't think many Americans have any idea just how strong his appeal is? Most presidents "never" possess that kind of automatic goodwill right out of the gate (not even Clinton generated the same intensity). Sheesh, most would kill for it!...lol
Can you even imagine what a huge positive that would be for our global image? The last one that probably had as much universal international excitement was Kennedy, and that legacy has hardly diminished even 40+ years later? We may be having a new era of Camelot for the 21st Century, ya never know?
Of course Obama would still have to deliver once in office, but unless he falls flat on his face and squanders all this apparent global goodwill, I don't see how this can be viewed as a negative?

That was a funny interview. I saw it when it actually happened. The TX State Senator had a hard time wiggling out of that question, and was very thankful when time eventually ran out.
Obama hasn't accomplished much. He's a very good, studied orator, and when left alone on the stump, unchallenged, he speaks well, plagiarized material or not. But he doesn't like a debate.
However, to be fair he hasn't had time to accomplish much. He's only a freshman senator and is still learning the ropes. Things like major accomplishments take time and a lot of peer support. That's why his candidacy for President of the USA is very premature.
What we have with Obama's campaign isn't really very much about Obama himself. It is the "Bandwagon Effect". A tendency human nature has for joining into a "Frenzy". It's about the adrenaline rush. Not the man or his history.. There isn't much history there yet.
Basically what we do know is, he wants to promote massive illegal immigration just about any way he can, and has taken actions to do so. That's about all we know so far, as far as "actions" go. There is a LOT of talk. But talk often doesn't translate into reality.
So voting for him is a real gamble. But one that a public "in frenzy mode" seems to be willing to take.

True, MM. I see a lot of sensationalism surrounding his campaign, but it's not his fault that he generates such hysteria?...lol. I surmise the deep-seated outpouring of emotion is because his candidacy truly represents a seismic political shift and many are simply yearning for change -- the reactions he generates seem genuine and heartfelt, not calculated or cynical.
His critics view his response to all this attention as pandering and fakery, and proof he has no substance, but the same charges get leveled at any candidate under similar circumstances in every election, so that doesn't surprise me.
Nobody will know what kind of president he'll be until he's in office for awhile, just like any president.

sadian - I voted for Obama in the primary. What hasn't he done? He has never held any executive position and he has never sponsored any meaningful legislation. Both of these would be important because just beyond the candidates rhetoric is reality. A President needs a great deal of experience and political capital to get anything passed. With the useless Congress that is in places now it will require a great deal of finesse to get anything passed.
While I will vote for McCain in the general election part of me is rooting for Obama because he will not have the ability to get anything done. In this day and age with the state of our government that is a big plus.
MOD - you may or may not be correct. My antisarcasm meds don't usually kick in until late in the day
I will try again -
Here is the link to an interview of a Texas State Senator that is a vigorous Obama supporter. When Matthews asked him a simple question about Obamas accomplishments in the Senate he was immediately stumped. His response is reminiscent of the infamous interview with Miss South Carolina.

It's true, Obama really has not accomplished very much as yet. Then again, it is also true that he is fairly young and for someone his age, he has accomplished quite a bit. In fact, his accomplishments are about the same as Hillary's, the difference being that his come from his own work, while hers are primarily a result of riding the coatails of her husband.

Mo said, from his ultra-posh Corporate Executive Suite, while enjoying yet another latte' following his catered luncheon:
Nobody will know what kind of president he'll be until he's in office for awhile, just like any president. Very true Mo.. But isn't that a bit too late? I don't think we can guess at these things very well, just based on powers of speech, adrenaline, and the "frenzy effect". Can we?
Maybe the presidency should be for two years instead of four, just in case?
One is moved to inquire: Where's the Beef?

Nobody really needs experience, what they really need is ideas, a plan, not just a bunch of empty words, Kerry ran into this problem, eventually, people want to hear the answers to the questions..... Hearing all the details haven't been worked out yet, just makes you lose confidence. And using fudged numbers on the cost of these ideas, does the same thing.
