Sen. Barack Obama managed a real gaffe, famously defined by Michael Kinsley as a politician telling the truth, or in this instance, saying what he really thinks.
It didn't help that Obama uttered the offending words at a swank San Francisco fundraiser (last Sunday, made public Friday on the Huffington Post), after bowling for the votes of white, gun-loving, gay-hating, immigrant-bashing Pennsylvania yokels, the very demographic he desperately needs:
"You go into some of these small towns in Pennsylvania, and like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing's replaced them," Obama said. "And they fell through the Clinton administration, and the Bush administration, and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are gonna regenerate and they have not. And it's not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations."
Sen. Hillary Clinton and Republican Sen. John McCain were all over it. "Pennsylvanians don't need a president who looks down on them," Clinton said, while McCain called Obama "out of touch."
California Republican Party chairman Ron Nehring piled on with "elitist," saying, "If Obama ventured further than his glitzy fundraiser, he would see the small towns in California where hardworking families represent the embodiment of the American dream and where people still know each other by their first name. Now they know something else: that they have very little in common with Barack Obama."
Obama, to his credit, didn't back down, defending his remarks. After all, he didn't grow up in a rich family, and he worked as a young man organizing poor people in Chicago. He accused his rivals as the ones out of touch. "I know exactly what's going on," he said. "I know what's going on in Pennsylvania. I know what's going on in Indiana. I know what's going on in Illinois. People are fed-up. They're angry and they're frustrated and they're bitter. And they want to see a change in Washington and that's why I'm running for President of the United States of America."
Obama's problem is that the comments and the place they were uttered fit neatly into the "elitist," "liberal," "snob," and "Harvard" narrative in an anti-intellectual political climate where Obama's greatest weakness -- and where he's been most trying to buttress his credentials with populist, anti-trade rhetoric -- is his appeal to the white working class.
The comments feed directly into a perception that has been simmering in Obama's speaking and debate style, a "chin in the air" condescension emanating from a liberal world view that we wondered might come back to haunt him.
Just like Clinton's sniper fire fabrications and McCain's 100-years-in-Iraq line, this moment reveals truths about the next president.
This is getting sadder and sadder. I can't believe there are still people that stand behind this man and believe he would be the best of the candidates!

Katt: This is getting sadder and sadder. I can't believe there are still people that stand behind this man and believe he would be the best of the candidates! ...The people I have talked to, are ignorant of the happenings and being devout Dems, they are simply choosing Obama, the unknown, over Hillary, who has had her whole life exposed with a fine tooth comb.
After all, he didn't grow up in a rich family, and he worked as a young man organizing poor people in Chicago. ...It is almost sickening to listen to Obama identify himself with the black inner city youth. He was born with a silver spoon in his mouth, attended private schools and continued all the way through prestigious colleges and has never lived in the slums. He does not have a clue what a life in poverty is, other than watching it.

Hillary, who has had her whole life exposed with a fine tooth comb.
As such, she has two groups as few before have had. She is either liked or disliked- no middle ground in this which is indeed hurting her.
Most of the national politicians are of the same mindset. They have no idea of what poor is and how hard it really is to raise a family with income that barely makes it through the day. There are just not enough well paying jobs for everyone and the poor will always be with us, especially with jobs sent to wherever is the cheapest.
This will not hurt Obama in the long run. Most people will forget these words, because it does not directly affect them.

What I am afraid of is the people that are staunch democratics getting fed up and not voting at all. The party is in turmoil. This man can't speak without a written speach, on a telepromptor. Has anyone noticed that? Sen Obama is a Ivy league grad, and can't speak without the written word.
I also get irritated when our President speaks too though..

...Between the two Dems, they have spent about 6 times what McCain has in campaign funds, while the Reps are watching, quietly helping now and then with controversary, while keeping track of the Dem statements and actions for the final run... and with lots of campaign dollars to focus specific quotes in the specific demographics that relate.

Hillary's strategy has been manifold:
Organize traditional Democrat Bosses
Make offers of big rewards under a Clinton II Administration,
Hang in there no matter how bad it gets and keep your chin up to the bitter end.
Wait for Obama to self-destruct.
For several years Hillary has been touted as the Democratic Front Runner for the 2008 Presidential Nomination. Then along came Senator Obama, who as a Freshman refused to earn seniority before bolting to the head of the line and torpedoing Hillary on his way up.
Then the resulting fracturing of the Democratic Party naturally results. Who is to blame for the bloodletting in the Democratic Party, in a year that should have been a cake-walk to a coronation for the Democtratic Nominee?
Barack Hussein Obama.
The Republicans were ready to lick their wounds and be overwhelmed. Now Obama has reinvigorated the Republicans, fractured his own party, and all because he was over-eager and refused to garner seniority in the Democratic controlled U.S. Senate when it was Hillary's turn to run.
Instead Obama knifed Hillary in the back instead of doing what she did by amassing a consensus two years prior to a Presidential election that he was the Democratic presumptive nominee in a later year when it would have been his turn.
Obama may be responsible for the fracture between women and blacks in the Democrat Party, something that could bring four successive Republican White House victories as well as permit the Republicans to gain control of Congress again, over the next eight years.
Thank you Senator Obama, you screwed the pooch just in time for the 2008 Presidential Election which will not only annoint Senator McCain as President, but will also elevate a Republican Vice President to formidable strength with overwhelming national name recognition when it is finally his turn to run.
And when that Repupublican Veep becomes President, he will also have a Republican Vice President who will wait for his turn to run also.

Sorry, I know I'm going to catch flack for this, but I happen to agree. These kind of tactics and feelings are normal -- to go on the offensive when backed into a corner. It's part of the dynamics of being human.

SunBabe, of course it is-but one -especially a candidate for President of The United States of America- can't actually say it!
At least not out loud, and/or in public.
To quote Bruce Hornsby: That's just the way it is...some things'll never change...

They might be the norm, but the way he said it, some people will not understand. he needs a different speech writer if he is going to keep making these kind of remarks.
Of course, these kinds of things that we cling to, we do when it is good, and when it is bad.

I would not vote for Barack Obama if he was the only candidate in this race. I would sit home for my first Presidential election and it hurts my heart to even think about it. He makes me sick.

Sun: Sorry, I know I'm going to catch flack for this, but I happen to agree. These kind of tactics and feelings are normal -- to go on the offensive when backed into a corner. It's part of the dynamics of being human. ...Of course that is how Obama really thinks, although a bit hypocritical with the religious gig and his own personal bigotry and racism.
...Who he intended those words for, are not the people that would vote for him anyway; they are the working middle class.
=================
Katt: he needs a different speech writer if he is going to keep making these kind of remarks. ...Hillary's camp has said, that if they can get Obama away from his memorized responses, they can sink him... or he will sink himself.
===================
Para: Instead Obama knifed Hillary in the back instead of doing what she did by amassing a consensus two years prior to a Presidential election that he was the Democratic presumptive nominee in a later year when it would have been his turn. ...Obama knew that in 8 years, his true self would be known by his personal actions and Congressional voting record; Illinois is in bad shape. Now was the time for him, before the world knew who he really was... which is gradually coming out.
=======================
...Now, if McCain could just convince Colin Powell to run with him.

if McCain could just convince Colin Powell to run with him. General Powell has too much class to run with someone that many refer to as "McClone;" that's why he bailed on the current administration after the 1st term.

LGQ and I are on the same page! I am votin' agin' Barrack Hussein Obama! I too, will not vote for Senator Obama, nor will I vote for John McCain, however...my biggest problem with Sen. Obama is that he reminds me too much (as a candidate) of former WA governor John Spellman, who ran in 1980, with much the same campaign style-very vigorous and charismatic; yet upon his election, we (Washingtonians) were treated to four years of...well, very little action:
When Spellman sought the governorship again in 1980, he took aim at Governor [Dixie Lee] Ray's controversial and erratic performance. He edged Burlington legislator Duane Berentson (b. 1928), co-speaker of the House of Representatives, for the Republican nomination only to find he was not facing Ray in the general election. State Senator Jim McDermott (b. 1936) ousted the incumbent, forcing Spellman to change targets. Spellman did so with an aggressive attack, labeling McDermott a "liberal Seattle psychiatrist" and pulling a waffle from his pocket during a televised debate to illustrate his opponent's change of positions. Spellman also pledged that, unlike McDermott, he would not raise taxes. Buoyed by the Reagan landslide, Spellman won easily, but soon found the waffle image turned against him, as the difficult economic conditions forced him to break his no-tax pledge. As at the county, Spellman appointed able administrators, restoring order and efficiency to state government after the disorganization of the Ray years. However, in the State Legislature he faced a far more assertive and fractious legislative body than the fairly compliant County Council, and he never fully gained legislative leadership. For the first time in 48 years the Republicans had a majority in both chambers, with a sizeable advantage in the House and a one-vote margin in the Senate (thanks to a party switch by Sen. Peter von Reichbauer). However, disagreements among Republicans gave Senate Democrats a veto over significant legislation, forcing Spellman to attempt to mediate a three-way struggle.

Obama has been emitting nothing but "Turdiction" statements about Pastor Wright and also his most recent political gaffe, when he insulted the wage-earning class of the entire nation as an Elitist in 'Frisco.
Turdiction, (verb)
The pure and simple, unadulterated act, of "talking sh*t."

You used that verb as a adjective there PAL.
Editted to observe that though you have labeled it a verb, you have defined it as a noun.

Liberadical:
A leftist extremist whose political valence is in favor of the lawful enemies of the United States and who always sees the land of their birth as being at fault as tyrants are viewed with admiration and lingering delightful attraction from afar.
