In the 1930s, there was rumbling by business leaders about deposing Roosevelt and installing a pro-business fascist government. (This was prior to the discovery of the more vile aspects of Nazi Germany...)
An agent (self-appointed or an actual go-between) approached a popular Marine general about raising up some veterans of WW1 to march on the Federal Government, to shut down the democratic experiment and impose a dictatorship in its place. They made one mistake: they approached a general whose loyalty was to the country, not to an ideology.
The "Business Plot" was the second most dangerous point in the history of democracy in our nation. (The first most dangerous being the "Newburg Conspiracy" that was squelched by George Washington.)
Seems like the elites have a new weapon in their arsenal...

Again, I am amazed at what people believe. There was a time our country believed what the goverment told us, but that has been over for years, right? Right??

I always look for independent analyses.
Now, it appears, the government is helpfully providing the "independent" analysists...

SweetNapaGuy I liked that reference to the "Business Plot", it will be bookmarked.
I've always wondered if this is the reason Kennedy got his bullet to the head and maybe why Johnson feared for his life if not choosing to go to Vietnam. Obviously RFK and MLK got theirs for their peace motivations.
The War Profiteers
Oh I almost forgot J. Lennon and his bullet.

BJ: It's about time some of this stuff starts getting exposed. ...So, did the war create them, or did they create the war?
...Personally, I am not an advocate of say Haliburton, where Cheney profits, but the fact remains, they were the only entity capable of such a broad spectrum of military support, on an immediate notice. Now, was this because Cheney gave them notice ahead of time, to become prepared? ... Probably.

They are even starting to infiltrate the “liberal”NPR.
For media with no corporate ties, consider Alternative Radio and Democracy Now radio.

Does the mass media report foreign affairs with relative accuracy? Or does it maintain a certain bias towards US government policy?
...As you read, keep in mind that we are creatures of language: words change our moods in an instant and we are devoted to stories, inclined to suspend disbelief, to trust the writer, accept his world. If a supposedly objective news story does not shout its bias - or if we have unknowingly accepted that bias as true - we tend to believe it. The above is an excerpt from an interesting article called Credible Deception on a site called Emperor's Clothes.

Since Walter Cronkite I have been increasingly skeptical of all media in this country! I like the New York Times and the Washington Post! Yes, they have had problems with some reporting. But, not in their views on how a print media should report the news!
If a person wants to know the truth or as close as he/she can get then it is best to include reading from foreign sources in your daily regimen!
If you are not an "enlightened" individual and tend to be closed minded....then please continue to watch your "Fair and Balanced" Fox Comedy News Channell!
But, if enlightened and open-minded, read some British papers, French English Language and others as you wish! It is, for me, easy to spot someone being bias. But, it is extremely difficult to catch liars if you allow one news source to spoon feed news to you!

Join an organization that holds your view. There is power in numbers. I like for instance Moveon.org
The Corporations have been methodically undermining and removing "The New Deal" and the restraints put on the executive after Nixon, and creating the transfer of wealth from the middle and lower class to the top 1 percent, and it will not be easy to turn around.

The only people who have put out more propaganda and lies than the government, is the political left's sound machine.

Given that from time to time the political left IS more or less "the government," I don't believe as a group they have approached anything close to the sheer volume of disinformation, lies, propaganda, spin and general bullsh*t coming out of the government.

“We are not giving the public what it needs. Far too often we take the official line. We live and die by the size of our audience; we dumb down the news to pump up the ratings. I have reported on world events close-up for almost four decades. And I have never felt as frustrated as I have in the past few years. Why? Because TV news has a critical job to do. And we are falling down on the job.” —Thomas Fenton in Bad News.

Budo: When do stop and take this back from them? ...It should have happened with Washington and his first tax on the Whiskey makers to pay for a war that was all about taxation without representation.
...Ever notice how every tax was initiated to pay for a war, such as the income tax, but they never go away after a war?

Budo: part of the Revolution started when England raised the Tea tax 3% ...Not so long ago, I was having a discussion with my youngest son about war and politics and I made the statement that most every war the US has been in, was politically based, except maybe the Revolutionary war. His response was even that war proved to simply be an exchange of who was going to tax the people. It made a lot of sense.
...On another note, my Irish forefathers fought in the Revolutionary war and it has come down through the family that it was they that participated in the Boston Tea Party... as they were searching for coffee and threw the damn English tea overboard to get it out of the way.
