Anyone who takes a forum frequenter at face value, without actually considering what he says, wouldn't be what I'd consder to be a precision thinker.
Getting us into the war took lots of sound bites, and images such as 'let's not let the smoking gun be a mushroom cloud' to herd us sheeples into line to go to the slaughter house. Now it's 'if we pull out now, Iraq will be a disaster area; ignoring the fact that the corollary to that 'if we stay, Iraq will be okay' is as much an untrue manipulation as Condie's mushroom cloud statement was.
I'm with Jay...I don't think our staying is going to make a whole lot of difference in the long run; meanwhile I think we need to get our own house in order. But then I never believed that Utopia could be achieved by minding other peoples' business and neglecting our own.

My question is always the same. What is being done to get them ready to take over and run their own country? They donna want us, they donna need us. Last week, the new Iraqi governemt that WE put in ta place asked us to leave.
I love this video cause a SHeryl is lookin so upbeat and happy. It is more peace promotin than anti-war. The message is so upbeat an happy.
I seen it fer the first time today, it was an eye opener. It is like "Damn, Hammer is right, we got our heads stuck right up er arses"
Time ta pull it out. Time ta get our shiet together. We have recouped from 9/11. We have had our tantrum and thrown some weight around.

Supposedly, that's what's been going on for some time Katt - public elections, their own constitution, we've trained their police force, restored their utilities, yada yada yada. That's part of why I think we need to get out of there - there are three factions that need to find a level where they can deal with each other - we can't do that for them, and if they can't do it now, why do we think they'll do it later?
Yugoslavia had a similar situation, but Tito was tough enough to make it work, which is essentially what we've been doing. After he died, it eventually crumbled; Little by little they've sorted things out, for better or for worse, but it was their sorting for the most part. We got involved in Kosovo but I'm not sure we should even have done that.
The other parts of why we need to get out - first of all, I think we have enough problems of our own that need handling before we decide we're competent to tell the rest of the world how it's done; the second part is more personal...my cousin Werner fought on the German side - he was a teenager when he was killed by an American sniper the day after the war ended. My father's sister never spoke to him again, or even admitted he was alive..that's one person who lost a loved one - think about the fact that for every one of our guys killed, there's probably been in the neighborhood of a thundred or more Iraqis. If my aunt could feel that way about her brother, how do you think the loved ones of all those killed feel about us? Saddam might have been a prime SOB, but I doubt that anywhere near as many were affected by what he did. We're spawning a new generation of terrorists who are going to hate us more than al Qaeda ever did.

Iraq is not strong enough yet for the military to pull out. They will pull back eventually as the Iraq Millitary become strong enough. But I cant see them leaving Iraq for a long time yet. There would be no point in going in there in the first place to capture that tyrant and to liberate the people if they werent giong to see it through to the end. If any of us were civilians living in Iraq........under fear and oppression....not knowing which day of the week one of Saddams sons would walk into a classroom with one of our children in it.....and select one.....take them home.....use them as a sex slave....beat them to buggery..... then feed them to his dogs when there wasnt much left of them. Wouldnt we want to be liberated from that and other torturous events. Soccur teams and godknows who lived in fear of all being shot if the teams didnt win. Many have spoken out about all the torturous activities of Saddam and his sons. If we were living under those cirumstances........wouldnt we want some country to intervene and liberate us from that. Its ok to say this and that while we are living in a safe country.
If the US Military pulled out now without making sure Iraq is secure enough and strong enough to defend itself. Then Iraq and other countries would never trust America again. Many Vietnamese still dont trust America to this day. They felt very let down. .If the military pulled out now.........Iraq wouild feel the same way.
US cant pull out....in the near future.

First, THEY don't want us. The new government that WE put in place asked US to leave last week.
Iraq is not strong enough yet for the military to pull out. THat means nothing. If they are stronger than they was 6 years ago great. Glad we could help out. Adios. If we wanna help more countires give someone else a turn. If they ain't stronger, there ain't no sense spending more time there.

You cant always believe every detail you read in the news. They may have expressed what they wanted..........but the news is reported often with a twist.....they can turn things into whichever way they will make the most impact.
I was talking about before US went to Iraq when Saddam and his 2 sons were rampant in their torturous quests there.
