Recent poll said things were pretty damm good. Know that pisses a lot of lefties off as they swing from caring for the Iraqi people to not giving a damm. Depending on what argument they are trying to put forth. I mean, when it is proved that the Iraqis are better off, they switch to how the US troops are dying, then, when the good things the US are doing is shown, they switch to how the US troops are killing Iraqis even though it is the insurgents who did the bulk of it. Another one is how the US pulls the strings and now, it is proved that they are not as the Iraqis will not give the Oil Contracts to the US automatically.
One of the latest attempts at disinformation is an old one, saying the US will not leave when asked and then pulling out year and a half old to two year news articles where the motion to do so is tabled for votes in Iraq's parliament. Ignoring the fact that Iraq has just this year gone to the UN and requested the US stay for another year. I wonder where this obsession with altering truth comes from?
Anyhow, the article with the poll;
Fifty-five percent of Iraqis say things in their own lives are going well, well up from 39 percent as recently as August. More, 62 percent, rate local security positively, up 19 points. And the number who expect conditions nationally to improve in the year ahead has doubled, to 46 percent in this new national poll by ABC News, the BBC, ARD German TV and the Japanese broadcaster NHK.
The number of Iraqis who feel entirely unsafe in their own area has dropped by two-thirds, to 10 percent. And with Sunni Arab buy-in, U.S.-funded Awakening Councils, created to provide local security, are more popular than the Iraqi government itself. In short Marylou, despite the hopes of the left, Iraq is coming along well.

Sorry we couldn't do more. Well, you'll be there till the end of the year anyhow. And even if Obama gets in, his plan for withdrawal is a sixteen month one so, either way, won't happen suddenly.

Jaybird Iraq askin us ta leave was on the news a couple aweeks ago.The links I opsted was wrong. Indeed!
What you mistook for some official move by the government of Iraq to ask the US to leave was simply individual statemen talking about the issue and voicing their opinions and the media jumping on it in anti American sentiment. The MNF mandate for the US occupation comes from the UN and all the Iraqis need do is to simply not renew it. As it stands, the US has been requested to remain (and has accepted) until Dec 31 2008 by the Iraqi government. So, if the Iraqi government does not request another extension through the UN the MNF will have no legality and will begin to stand down. In order for this to happen, there will be discussions and more than likely a vote in Parliament according to Iraq's constitutional laws then it will be acted upon or not acted upon. Given the history and situation Iraq is in I am willing to bet that it is more than simply a question of not asking the UN to extend the MNF rather, proving somehow that they are able to ensure their own security and that of it's neighbors is not at risk.
In any case, it's a lot more involved than a mob of politicians simply asking the US to leave via private and public conversations and news articles.

If that is correct about the Iraqi's voting yay or nay in December about us leaving....that I would consider very interesting!
Since Bush has now let Big Oil back into Iraq! Whom will protect all those big oil people after December? Blackwater?
Well, it will be a very disturbing sight when we start seeing their ass's being drug from their armored vehicles.....then hung and burned on Osamma's Boulevard!!
What will the Bushco Oil Conglomerate do about that? Attack the new Iraq government for atrocities?
Only Fox News will have the answer for that....stay tuned to your local Fox Station!

V-Nam don't want us back. Just got back from there last year, and yes they do..... they want us back badly. They want our manufacturing jobs, and can compete on an even lower wage rate than China. Yes,,,, the mean old, blood thirsty Americans,,,,,,they want our cash.
Sad part is,,,, they will get it.
As far as the lovely Ms. Crow setting forign policy,,,,,, well,,,,,, that's about as smart as letting John McCain sing,,,,, in public.

It will probably be tabled in Parliament long before december and in fact, last November was when the 2008 mandate was agreed on. as for the US leaving, it will not be a simple booking of flights and everybody home for new Years. Rather, a phased withdrawl much like Obama's 16 month plan. The only portions that are sketchy are what bases and Military presence will be left behind in Iraq and whether the Enduring bases will be populated and by whom in what numbers and what equipment will be left there. This will be a long while in discussion as Iraq will ahve to pay for the occupation as well as loans and hardware that have been sold to them and, allowing USD bases will undoubtedly be part of the bargaining process.
As for who will protect the 'Big Oil' people come December I am willing to be the US will see the MNF mandate extended once more and, if not, then the Iraqis will have to pay a bit more money so that the 'Big Oil' from Russia, France, China, Norway, Denmark, Ireland, Japan, South Korea, Canada, USA and so on and forth can pay for their own security.

I did. It's pretty much all good. Particularly the part where Iraq's military is operating pretty much on it's own effectively. It's almost time to leave, just a bit more guidance and advising and it's hopefully all over.
Thanks for the great link Nah!

If thingn ain't perfect, sorry bout that. Yer gonna have to get the rest a the way on yer own.
Plenty of other folks in other lands could use help.
Er even, maybe one day, we cah use a little a that tax money that were so free to spend blowin up then rebuilding other countries, maybe we could use a little of it back here ta help the folks what paid into the kitty ta start with.

maybe we could use a little of it back here ta help the folks what paid into the kitty ta start with. Other than the money spent for the rebuilding - ie bridges, water inferstructure, etc.,,,, most of the money stays here in our kitty.
Food, Water, Equipment,,,,, bought here, shipped there. Soldier Pay,,,,, earned there, sent here for family. (By the way,,,,when they come home, you going to fire all of them,,,,if not,,,,,soilder pay is still an outlay of cash. Granted, no combat pay,,,,,but,,,,it doesn't go away.)
How come every person who opposes the war, because they don't want thier tax dollars spent to fund something they don't get any perceived direct reward from,,,,, are the ones cheering the loudest for "domestic spending".,,,,,,which is funded from our pocket also.....
However, the vast majority of the total budget is domestic spending,,,, of which a vast majority of that is not even a legitimate function of governement.
Soldiers come home,,,,,hell yes. Because we finish the job,,,,and stabilize Iraq, so they can be self sufficient. Is it about money,,,, well no shit it's about money. The same money you bitch about when you fill up. We knew that going in,,,that it was going to be a cluster f***,,,, but once there,,,, once committed,,,, I do not support leaving the job undone, so that the friends and family I burried died in vain.
Cut our spending,,,, hell yes. But not just on one program,,, on all programs. If we are running over budget by 35% (made up number to make a point),,,, cut every single f***ing line item of the budget by 35% and let the over paid burricrats figure out how to make what they have work. I have to do that every month, don't you.

However you slice it, we been paying gobs a billions over the last 6 years. No point in arguing whether we should er shouldna. Alla that's spilled milk done ran over the bridge.
The thing is, we done spent enough on this project.
Time ta call it a day.
Iraq has ta learn ta survive withou us. 6 years was plenty of time fer that to happen. If they can, fine. If they can't, then hey, we tired ta help, it just didn't take.
