I am posting an excerp from the site I alread posted:

October 3, 2007
LOS ANGELES - More than 1,300 criminal aliens, immigration fugitives, and immigration violators have been removed from the United States or are facing deportation today following the largest special enforcement action ever carried out by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Fugitive Operations Teams anywhere in the nation.

During the two-week operation in the Los Angeles area, which concluded yesterday, ICE officers located and arrested 530 immigration violators who were at large in five Southland counties - Los Angeles (187), Orange (62), Riverside/San Bernardino (245), and Ventura (36). Of those arrested out in the community, a total of 258 were immigration fugitives, aliens who have ignored final orders of deportation or who returned to the United States illegally after being removed. More than half of the aliens located in the community had criminal histories in addition to being in the country illegally.

As part of the enforcement effort, ICE officers also expanded their search for criminal aliens incarcerated in area jails, taking custody of 797 previously unidentified deportable foreign nationals who were scheduled for release from the county jails in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, and Ventura counties.

The results of the special operation were announced at a news conference here today by ICE Assistant Secretary Julie L. Myers. Assistant Secretary Myers pointed out that of the more than 61,000 illegal aliens arrested by ICE Fugitive Operations Teams since the first teams were created in 2003, roughly 17,331 had criminal convictions.

"ICE's Fugitive Operations Teams make a priority of cases involving those who have ignored orders to leave our country and those who pose a threat to our communities," Assistant Secretary Myers said. "The 1,300 taken into custody by ICE in the past two weeks include numerous suspected street gang members, as well as aliens convicted of sex offenses, assaults and kidnapping. Our success is two-fold - we have made our communities safer and protected the integrity of our nation's immigration system."

Among those arrested was Juan Cervantes-Gonzalez, 30, of Mexico. Cervantes, who was taken into custody without incident at his San Bernardino home September 21, is a suspected street gang member with prior convictions for transporting methamphetamine, burglary, and auto theft.
and...
The majority of the aliens taken into custody this week in the Los Angeles area are Mexican nationals, but the group included immigration violators from 30 countries, such as Armenia, India, Indonesia, Jordan, and Peru. Since many of these individuals have already been through immigration proceedings, they are subject to immediate removal from the country. Of the aliens arrested during the past two weeks, more than 600 have already been returned to their native countries.

When I looked at the video of the Rodney King beating it suddenly occurred to me that in all likelihood, the cops involved most likely mistook Rodney King for either Napa or Nightowl.

And I was watching TV yesterday, and an ad came on for a tire store. I could SWEAR it was Para. But then I realized, it was the Michelin Man.

It shouldn't have taken me so long. After all, the Michelin Man is svelte, compared to Para.

time will tell...

who is right here.. the mayor of LA? or ICE ?

I always thought it was the job of a police force to go after criminals who commit crimes.. and ICE's job was to go after illegals...

Gallows let me help you a little.

The f***ing mayor of any city who creates such a sanctuary is not upholding the law and should be thrown in jail for breaking the law.

The illegals are f***ing goddam illegal for being in the U.S. illegally thus have broken the law so

The police should cooperate with ICE and send all the f***ing blood suckers back to mexico or from whereever they came from.

That was f***ing easy.

Any more questionss?

This makes perfect sense to me. The police officers are employed by the residents of the city -- paid for by local taxes and there to protect their employers -- the local population -- which may include US illegals. ICE are outsiders paid for not only by the locals but by the nation. They have different loyalties, different employers -- US citizens which does not include illegals.

ICE claims to have limited funds with which to operate, so they are choosing to go after contributing members of the city's residents -- those employed and employing and presumably living peaceably and paying local taxes. The city would prefer that the limited resources of ICE be directed first to those illegals who are not benefiting the economy of the city -- the criminals.

That makes sense to me. Border patrol is not doing the job of keeping out the criminals, they should be the first taken out by border patrol's sister agency. The gangster criminals are a much greater danger to our security than the employed illegals and those employing illegals.

Lacy, if there are illegals they are sucking and robbing from every tax payer and from every person who is in the U.S. legally.

So, f*** the illegals. send them all packing. And it is bull shit that city and county authorities cannot help in getting rid of this f***ing scum.

Yes, a little harsh. But the cost on society is enourmous enough without having to take care of every illegal.

As to the border patrol, their job would be made easier if a high tech fence were put up. And with that high tech body heat sensors which can be monitored along with high flying surveilance planes along the border.

kick out teh illegals, slam the f***ing door on their arse, and

Send any f***ing liberal with them that don't like it.

Illegal aliens are only an issue during election years. During the rest of the time, they get a "wink and nudge" because powerful business interests profit from having a source of cheap labor, while not having to worry so much about worker safety.

I'm all in favor of "guest worker" programs, wherein law-abiding foreign nationals are brought in to do the work that is beneath the standards of most Americans. The business operations would be required to meet all workplace regulations, of course.

Those caught committing felonies or multiple misdemeanors should be locked up for the requisite sentences, then deported afterward. (Deporting them first does not promise getting them punished. And after a decade in jail, they're less likely to be able to sneak back across the border.) If they're here as a "guest worker," pay their taxes, obey the law, and don't bother the neighbors, I say let them stay.

Unfortunely for us, it's the Congress that hold the keys to the gateway entry for immigration of all countries. They are more focused on the why they are here; what they bring and what they take back with their visa's as well. Transporting of massive drugs, weapons, chemicals, technology, education and money seem to be the larger eye openers on the U.S. especially during war time of terrorist increase.

The allowance of poverty entrance, for the American Dream seem to have been the lowest on the totempole for actions by Congress. They allow it and have allowed it...it's that simple.

Here's one site that is a real eye opener!

as some of these "criminals" are non violent .. for the run of the mill illegal, I think a federal penitentiary ( and the costs associated with it..) are not needed..something more like ` ....this...(link) ..~

...(imho) would be more appropriate ...

In 1992, Arpaio signed a notarized document, stating he would only serve one term as sheriff. He is now in his fourth term

Maybe the community really loves the color pink!

One thing about ol'Arpaio.....the stench and look of Concentration Camps and their memories will never fade!

On the edge of mistreatment and malnutrition is definitely his "cup of tea"!

Ol'Joe....it makes no difference to him...misdemeanor...felony...trumped up charge or innocent....in his jail you are all dogs!

I think Sheriff Arpaio should form a nonprofit organization that serves as an accreditation association for other jails to follow his techniques and be a certified Arpaio Detention Facility.

this is a little extreme is it not?

last I heard there were no sweat boxes being used.. and as the tents were military surplus.. ( not camping tents...) and if any illegal needs expensive long term medical treatment just deport their ass back to the country they came from after stabilizing them...

where is the problem?

As long as nutritional needs are met (from what I recall, that Sheriff Arpaio favors bologna sandwiches, which are NOT a source of good nutrition...), and as long as the prisoners were not subjected to unnecessary boredom (i.e. provide them at least with reading material, allow them to exercise, whatever is cheap and easy and keeps them safe), I'm all for it.

They are our prisoners. They may or may not be worthy of the good treatment they receive. We treat them decently for our honor and integrity. We do it for ourselves, to maintain our standing as civilized human beings.

I saw some Mexican women being interviewed on a maturity ward. They admitted they come to the USA for the free benefits they can receive and don't understand why Americans are upset. Ok, they should reverse the situation. What if Americans went to Mexico and was able to get free benefits that they were paying into a system for, yet they could not get them. And Mexico is a bad country to live in is BS. I know a Mexican American girl who was born in Fla. but raised in Mexico. She said the people there live about the same as they do here. And think of it, do you ever see old Mexicans, No, just working age and their children.. They go back to Mexico when they retire. If Mexico was so bad, why do they go back?

I could be wrong, but I think what Arieann might be talking about is this video

Link

Actually, Katie Couric and ABC took alot of heat for airing this story. The National Council of La Raza, MALDEF and the congressional hispanic caucus got upset about it, but no real surprise there.

And as to the topic of this thread, I agree with what Para said when he said that local law enforcement can and should help enforce federal laws(I'm not saying local law enforcement should go searching door to door for illegal aliens, but I think they should be checking for immigration status when someone commits a crime and is apprehended, even for running a red light or having expired tags, not just serious felony crimes, I just don't buy the excuse that illegal aliens should be allowed to roam free because they fear they won't report crimes if they are not allowed to roam free) instead of turning their backs on federal crimes that are comitted(just the very presence of illegal aliens in this country is a violation of federal law) in their jurisdictions because another aency is supposed to handle it, especially when those agencies are doing a very poor job of it.
