I think Sheriff Arpaio should form a nonprofit organization that serves as an accreditation association for other jails to follow his techniques and be a certified Arpaio Detention Facility. Para...Arpaio does have one for immigration smugglers. He created the Arizona anti-smuggling unit state law. This unit works with 12 federal custom enforcement agents that became deputies. He also established a "Posse" from other state Sheriffs as volunteers to work this anti-smuggling unit. This law also expedites murder cases that evolved from drug smuggling trades.

Gallows_Humor.....It is fine with me that you agree with the type treatment Joe metes out to all his prisoners!
I don't!
To me it is cruel and unusual punishment!
All Joe needs now is the smoke stack for the crematory! You know what a mess dead bodies are lying around! Let's not spend any money burying them....just run the ragged refuse through the burners....then use the ashes to fertilize the ground!
Just think then we can have Joe go nationwide showing each state how to get rid of the filth he cares not a damned bit for or the people of that state either!
Has anyone took the time to see how many die from Joe's "Easy Bake Oven"?

However, a new jail would have cost Maricopa County taxpayers around US$70 million. So instead, Arpaio obtained surplus tents from the military, and established Tent City in a parking lot adjacent to one of the jail facilities.
Criticism has resulted due to lawsuits filed against the sheriff’s office by family members of inmates who died in jail custody and in high-speed pursuits involving deputies. The lawsuits have cost Maricopa County more than $43 million in settlement claims during Arpaio's tenure.
From 2004 through November 2007, Arpaio was the target of a 2,150 lawsuits in U.S. District Court and hundreds more in Maricopa County courts; 50 times as many lawsuits as the New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Houston jail systems combined.
Arpaio is currently subject to a class-action lawsuit, Hart v. Arpaio, brought by Phoenix attorney Debra Hill and the American Civil Liberties Union on behalf of jail inmates. The case addresses pretrial detainees, who are legally innocent until proven guilty. The lawsuit claims that Arpaio is violating the constitutional rights of those detainees.
By mid-year 2007, more than $50 million in claims had been filed against the sheriffs office and Maricopa County. That $70 is beginning to look like it would have been a good deal.

I dunno what the legal issues are in the high speed chases... I do know where an off-duty cop pursued a woman in the early morning hours in Houston and she, fearing for her life ran from him...and wound up dead... Nope, no reasonable cause, no due process, no crime or criminal record... We are supposed to be presumed innocent until convicted in a court of law, not presumed innocent until we run...
I am thinking that trying to avoid detainment in 'Tent City' is not a death sentence crime -- and that pursuit unto death is not lawful.
The city has paid out $43 million because of deaths and high speed chases. Somewhere a jury or a judge or attorneys representing the city decided the 'law' had gone too far.

High Speed Pursuits!
For a "tail light out"....yeah let's get the ol'cruiser up to 135 miles an hour right through a school zone! We don't care how many die just get that ticket wrote for that tail light!
Yeah, a little over the top you might say! But, not long ago they were doing just that! I don't believe it is best to do that. If he goes to run let him go. Be sure to get that license plate number so you can slip up on him later! While he is sleeping preferably!
Unless there has been a murder, armed robbery or other heinous crime let the misdemeanors go. Of course get that tag number so he can be arrested later....for that light being out a "warning" ........for alluding a police officer in the performance of his duty...teach him a lesson he won't forget!
Thanks for posting that, lacyvsq! To me ol'Joe needs to be closed up and his bunghole put in Tent City! I would not want him to miss out on those wonderful baloney sandwiches.

no..I would like to see the feds set up these "tent city camps" on government land and if you are illegal this is where you are taken.. we have tried to be humane about it, and just return them.. but they keep right on coming back...
and it is obvious that looking the other way is not working either..... so... detaining them as ??a form of punishment..?? while due process is being carried out.. just might work as an incentive ...- to have them stay in their own country

Well, due process is actually supposed to come before punishment.
The feds can't even get the criminal (already incarcerated) illegals processed -- though it is supposedly a high priority. What makes you think it would help matters to detain more people -- uncharged with any 'crimes' -- in tents. Furthermore, in a 1998 Arpaio commissioned study, Arizona State University Criminal Justice professor Marie L. Griffin found that Arpaio's policies did nothing to reduce recidivism in the Maricopa County facilities compared to his predecessor: "there was no significant difference in recidivism observed between those offenders released in 1989-1990 and those released in 1994-1995."

Don't know why Arpaio insist on keeping "tent city" activated when he has built 2 new jail facilities that have hundreds of vacant cells which the tax payers pay for. I assume it's a pride thing of his even though tent city is a breakage of law on fire code standards. Tent city was first implemented upon being a "temporary" prison holding until facilities were built. Well they are built, but the funds for training guards has been almost to a hault from all his lawsuits expenditures that tax payers also pay for.

I think it would be wonderful if Sheriff Arpaio were appointed Director of the US Bureau of Prisons with Adam Walsh appointed as Director of the FBI.

Well, due process is actually supposed to come before punishment. when an illegal is found.. they are already guilty of a crime... it is just a matter of the system moving too slow to make sure there was no mistake in the process..
also..when certain felons are charged with a serious enough crime.. they are incarcerated without bail...
come on Lacy..just admit that you want open borders and will not be happy with anything but that...

I don't want open borders. I want constitutional limits on federal government. I want human rights for all peoples. I think that can better be implemented by easier border crossings, by faster and more efficient handling of paperwork, by holding our federal government to the ninth and tenth amendments as well as the fourth amendment.
Maybe we ought to hold the feds to the whole Constitution, in fact. Yeah, that might be a good idea, especially since they are sworn to uphold it! Nobody is sworn to uphold acts of Congress or executive orders -- especially where they are unconstitutional.

Maybe they don't want Arpaio cause his daddy didn't raise him right?
