http://www.nytimes.com/2008/09/13/us/politics/13trooper.html?ref=usAlaska Lawmakers Vote to Subpoena Todd Palin By SERGE F. KOVALESKI Published: September 12, 2008 ANCHORAGE — Alaska lawmakers voted Friday to issue a subpoena to Todd Palin, the husband of Gov. Sarah Palin, in an escalation of the inquiry into whether Ms. Palin improperly tried to have her former brother-in-law dismissed from his job as a state trooper. Stephen E. Branchflower, who is leading the inquiry into whether Gov. Sarah Palin improperly tried to have her former brother-in-law dismissed The subpoena was one of 14 approved by the Judiciary Committee of the State Senate in a vote of 3 to 2 in a joint hearing with the House Judiciary Committee, which served in an advisory role during the proceeding. The subpoenas were requested by the legislative investigator conducting the inquiry, Stephen E. Branchflower, a former Anchorage prosecutor who now lives in South Carolina. The vote set the stage for a possible legal clash between the Legislature and the Palin administration, which threatened this week to go to court to quash the subpoenas for state workers. Ms. Palin, the Republican nominee for vice president, has hired a lawyer, who did not return calls seeking comment about the subpoena for Mr. Palin. “It seems that we are heading for a branch-against-branch smack-down,” said Senator Gene Therriault, a Republican who voted against approving the subpoenas and instead advocated that the investigation be handled by the state Personnel Board. “This is a nuclear route that should be avoided at all costs.”...... .......Another subpoena, according to testimony by Mr. Branchflower, is for the owner of a company that has a contract with the state to handle workers’ compensation claims. Mr. Branchflower said that based on information he had received on a tip line from an employee at the company, Harbor Adjustment Service, the owner might not have been truthful when she initially denied to him that someone from the governor’s office had put pressure on her to turn down a claim submitted by Mr. Wooten. Eleven of the subpoenas are mostly for state workers, including one for Ms. Palin’s scheduler and executive secretary. The final subpoena is for cellphone records from February and March for Frank Bailey, who in February was recorded while telephoning a trooper commander to convey the displeasure of Ms. Palin and her husband that Mr. Wooten was still on the force. The ethics case, which has been the subject of national scrutiny since Ms. Palin was named to the Republican ticket by Senator John McCain, has its roots in her decision this summer to dismiss Alaska’s public safety commissioner, Walt Monegan. He has contended that he was dismissed for refusing to fire Mr. Wooten. Ms. Palin has accused Mr. Wooten of threatening her family and drank while operating his trooper car. But she has denied that Mr. Monegan’s dismissal was related to the Wooten matter....
is she really just the lipstick?? or ...the lips???

such a fool... if there was "no story..." then why does it continue to make the news...?
the fact is she is guilty of interfering in the dissmissal of the trooper for cause..due to a personal vendetta
this is something a small time politician would do.(...and which has been the downfall of many small time politicians...)
I predict it will become a non issue as McCain will eventually ask her to resign.. and her replacement will step in at the end...right before the election..which would not give the press any time to dig up the real dirt... imho McCain is the front man.. who will pass away due to natural causes very early in his term...opening the door for an unelectable person to become president..

This question is too easy to answer.
Your buddies in the MSM want to destroy Gov. Palin because she is the biggest threat to Obama's quest for the Whte House. The reason they keep this in the news is the same reason they keep stories about Bill Ayres, Toni Rezko, et al out of the news. It isn't news, it's left wing propaganda, which is all the MSM is these days.

Well that sure is a twist! And speaking of twists this is all freaking propaganda! Just the deliberate, systematic attempt to shape perceptions, manipulate cognitions, and direct behavior to achieve a response that furthers the desired intent of the DEMS. You know the powers that be have dug and dug deep to get the dirt on that most wonderful woman! What did they find? Her daughter is pregnant? And this garbage!
I personally plan to vote for the person and not the party!

I predict it will become a non issue as McCain will eventually ask her to resign. That's funny...this is a non issue, will remain a non issue, and will work in her favor. Even if she had anything to do with getting this slob removed, that will likely resonate pretty well with abused women everywhere.
Nope, Johnny Mac checked his hole cards and went all in. He'll stick with it!!
If a VP candidate resigns, it will be Biden...if he's not tossed under the bus first. Betcha bamarama's kicking his own ass pretty good for listening to whoever he listened to in picking Biden and not Billary. I honestly thought he'd an asset, or at worst, not a liability. Doesn't seem to be the case. He looks like he has the energy of a slug and the charisma of a pine cone!!
It's a ball game out here folks.

And when the officials of the NYT's lie, their admit does not make front page headlines...
Already earlier this month:
September 2, 2008, 10:32 pm
Alaska Party Official Says Palin Was Not a Member By The New York Times The chairwoman of an Alaskan political party that advocates a vote on the state’s secession from the union said Tuesday that she had been mistaken when she said Gov. Sarah Palin was a member of the group.
A front-page story in The New York Times on Tuesday and articles in other news media reported that Ms. Palin was a member of the Alaska Independence Party for two years in the 1990’s.
The information in the Times article was based on a statement issued Monday night by Lynette Clark, the party’s chairwoman, who said that Ms. Palin joined the party in 1994 and in 1996 changed her registration to Republican.
On Tuesday night, Ms. Clark said that her initial statement was incorrect and had been based on erroneous information provided by another member of the party whom she declined to identify. The McCain campaign also disputed the Times report, saying that Ms. Palin had been registered consistently as a Republican.
After checking the party’s archives, Ms. Clark said that she could find no documentation that Governor Palin had been a member of the party. She said Ms. Palin attended the party’s 1994 and 2006 conventions and provided a video-taped address as governor to the 2008 convention.
Ms. Clark said that Ms. Palin’s husband, Todd, was a former member of the party. http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/09/02/alaska-party-official-says-palin-was-not-a-member/
NYT has been famous for not checking out complete resources first.

Palin May Fight 'Troopergate' Subpoenas In Court
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) ? Gov. Sarah Palin's administration is threatening legal action to block subpoenas by the Alaska Legislature as part of its investigation into whether she abused her authority trying to have her former brother-in-law fired as a state trooper.
In a seven-page letter to Alaska lawmakers, an assistant attorney general said the administration is prepared to go to court to quash subpoenas of Palin staffers if any were issued as expected on Friday. The investigation, known as "Troopergate," took on new significance after Palin was selected as Sen. John McCain's running mate. http://cbs2.com/campaign08_xx/sarah.palin.troopergate.2.815383.html

Lawmakers Vote To Subpoena Todd Palin
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - The abuse of power investigation against Sarah Palin, Alaska governor and Republican vice presidential candidate, took a potentially ominous turn for her party on Friday when state lawmakers voted to subpoena her husband.
Republican efforts to delay the probe until after the Nov. 4 election were thwarted when GOP State Sen. Charlie Huggins, who represents Palin's hometown of Wasilla, sided with Democrats. "Let's just get the facts on the table," said Huggins, who appeared in camouflage pants to vote during a break from moose hunting.
Thomas Van Flein, the Palins' private attorney now representing her as governor, did not immediately return calls for comment.
The Senate committee acted at the request of investigator Stephen Branchflower, who is gathering evidence on whether Gov. Palin abused her power by firing Walt Monegan, the state's director of public safety. Critics charge she fired Monegan after he refused to dismiss Mike Wooten, a state trooper who had a messy divorce from the governor's sister. Palin says Monegan was let go because of a budget dispute.
Branchflower also said he wants to interview the governor, but omitted her from the 13-person list of subpoena targets he presented to the lawmakers overseeing his investigation.
He said Todd Palin is "such a central figure. ... I think one should be issued for him."
Palin, cast at last week's Republican National Convention as a supportive husband, oil rig worker and championship snowmachine racer, has emerged in the days since as also a powerful figure in his wife's administration. Despite holding no government position, he attends official meetings and is copied on e-mails concerning state business.
While Todd Palin's role in the dismissal of Monegan is unknown, the request for a subpoena suggests he spurned earlier calls to testify voluntarily. Monegan voluntarily submitted to an interview earlier in the week.
Nor was it immediately clear whether Van Flein was representing Todd Palin as well as the governor in the investigation. Van Flein is working at taxpayer expense to represent the governor in her personal and official capacity.
The subpoenas, which were approved for 12 state employees in addition to Todd Palin, instantly gave a new, national significance to what until recently was a controversy confined to Alaska.
The McCain campaign released a statement from Alaska Lt. Governor Sean Parnell, blaming Democrats.
"I'm disappointed by the complete hijacking of what should be a fair and objective process," the Republican said, calling the investigation a "smear."
The investigation -- dubbed "Troopergate" -- began before Palin was chosen as Sen. John McCain's running mate. Since then, Palin's supporters have argued that the investigation is politically motivated, and urged lawmakers to turn the matter over to the three-member State Personnel Board, which is appointed by the governor and charged with handling ethics complaints.
Palin has said she fired Monegan over disagreements about budget priorities. Monegan says he received repeated e-mails and phone calls from Palin, her husband and her staff expressing dismay over Wooten's continued employment.
One member of Palin's administration was caught on tape discussing personal information about Wooten, raising questions of how he knew those details.
Branchflower also asked for a subpoena for the phone records of one Palin administration official, Frank Bailey. Bailey was recorded calling an Alaska State Trooper lieutenant and discussing confidential information about Wooten, including his job application and worker's compensation claim. In a deposition taken by Palin's attorney, he testified that he never saw Wooten's file, but instead received the information from Todd Palin. http://cbs2.com/national/Sarah.Palin.troopergate.2.816120.html

If the media is swarming Alaska for info about Plain, what are they not swarming Chicago for Obamas past, WHATEVER THAT MAY BE .
How long has he been a running for president? Isn't it about time to talk to the people he claimed to have helped?
Intellectual honesty, we ALL should be looking for it. From both sides.
Our country is at stake. Or is it just our party?

The best they got was the questionable birth certificate and a smudged resume, oh and the wind bag Rev Ron. No body is perfect. Just some are even less perfect then others. neither candidate is pulling any body all together, in my opinion.

Check this out - Air (Soros) America's Randi Rhodes insinuates that Palin SEEMS like a molester. The liberals are sick whackos and do not know what to do now that the Messiah will lose the election.

Let's ask WOOTEN...
Wooten tells CNN he made mistakes
INTERVIEW: Trooper says he feels stressed from media spotlight.
By WESLEY LOY
Published: September 6th, 2008 05:00 AM Last Modified: September 6th, 2008 02:11 AM
Embattled state Trooper Mike Wooten, in an interview aired Friday on the CNN cable news network, admitted he'd made some mistakes and is feeling stress from having his troubles with the Palin family splashed across the national news media.
Wooten didn't directly discuss allegations that Gov. Sarah Palin abused her powers by pressuring her former public safety commissioner to fire the trooper, who was involved in a rough divorce with Palin's sister.
In July, Palin dumped the commissioner, Walt Monegan, who has said he believes his failure to dismiss Wooten might have cost him his job. Palin refutes that, saying she and Monegan had friction over budgeting.
Palin, her family members and at least one of her aides have harped about Wooten's alleged misdeeds -- that he demonstrated a Taser stun gun on his preteen stepson, shot a cow moose unlawfully, and operated his patrol car after drinking alcohol.
A trooper internal investigation begun in April 2005 and completed in March 2006 resulted in a five-day suspension for Wooten.
With his union representative by his side, Wooten on Thursday taped a brief interview in Anchorage with the CNN Special Investigations Unit, part of the army of international news people in Alaska to gather background on Palin, running for vice president on John McCain's Republican ticket.
Wooten told CNN: "You know, I was young and I made mistakes and I was punished for those mistakes. I learned my lesson. They're behind me and I'm trying to move on and be the best dad I can be to my children and be the best trooper that I can be. You know, I love my job and I love this state."
CNN reporter Drew Griffin noted Wooten, 36, has had four failed marriages, and that he denied threatening to kill Palin's father. Griffin also said Wooten holds no ill will toward Palin and is "actually excited" about her vice presidential nomination.
The Washington Post on Wednesday reported on e-mail messages Monegan said he received from Palin. In a Feb. 7, 2007, e-mail, Palin purportedly wrote: "It was a joke, the whole year long 'investigation' of him," referring to Wooten.
Wooten's union this week filed an ethics complaint against Palin accusing members of her administration of prowling through Wooten's confidential personnel and workers' compensation files for information to use against him. http://www.adn.com/troopergate/story/517685.html
