In the latest of a series of invasions into Sarah Palin’s personal life, hackers have broken into the Republican vice presidential candidate’s private e-mail account, and a widely read Web site has published screen grabs from it.
An article Wednesday in Gawker.com posts family photos and snapshots of e-mail exchanges the Alaska governor had with colleagues. Gawker says the-email account has since been shut down, but it will leave the images up on its site for all to see.
“Here are the screenshots of the emails saved before the account went dark, along with the contact list. It’s newsworthy and we will not be taking it down!” the site declares.
Rick Davis, campaign manager for John McCain, released a statement calling the publication a “shocking invasion of the governor’s privacy and a violation of law.”
“The matter has been turned over to the appropriate authorities and we hope that anyone in possession of these e-mails will destroy them. We will have no further comment,” Davis said.
The article boasts about the lengths to which the reporter went to verify the account, saying he or she even called a phone number listed for Palin’s teenage daughter, Bristol, which apparently went to her voicemail. The site also listed dozens of contact e-mails from the account.
Both WIRED and Gawker reported that members claiming to be with a group known as Anonymous took credit for hacking into Palin’s account. Screen grabs were published on other Web sites and then deleted, Gawker reported.
They reportedly came from a Yahoo e-mail account Palin uses — one separate from another private account that was publicized in The Washington Post last week.
Gawker complained that Palin has since “deleted” the account, and suggested she was trying to “destroy evidence.”
Palin has faced scrutiny for using her private account to do government business. The Washington Post reported last week that a local Republican activist is trying to get Palin to release more than 1,100 e-mails she withheld from a public records request. The appeal reportedly questions why Palin and her aides shift between public and private e-mail accounts.
A spokeswoman in the governor’s office in Alaska declined to comment Wednesday, referring questions from FOXNews.com to the McCain-Palin campaign.
“Primarily we’re referring people to the campaign because honestly people wouldn’t be asking these questions if she wasn’t a candidate for [vice president],” spokeswoman Kate Morgan said.
The Palin family was subjected to intense scrutiny after she was selected as John McCain’s running mate on Aug. 29. Reporters descended on her home town of Wasilla, Alaska, as the media focused on her unwed teenage daughter’s pregnancy.
Now, how can anyone stoop so low as to not only hack into a private account, but for some news media to actually post or use it in there papers?
How can someone hack into a private account? Would it be random?
I don't care who you are, that is private and I see nothing wrong with being able to email your family or friends!!!!

It read - "Hey sweetie, do you like Black guys?"
It went on... " $20 million to drop out. PLEASE!"

They published her contact list, photos of her family, PHONE NUMBERS and other personal emails. I can hear the liberals giggling now.
It is a federal offense and now the FBI is involved.
Funny how they screamed like pigs getting slaughtered when the FISA Bill was up and the Feds were going to hack into the emails of terrorists.

These Demmie operative posted all of her personal info on the web (home phone, etc). They do have her SS number BTW...it has not yet been released to the public. No doubt that Hussein's investigators have it for other, likely nefarious purposes.
Just because a person may have nothing to hide...you don't release all personal contact information on a candidate for United States Vice President. That info ALSO involves their family...geesh. To imagine this is acceptable proves to me that the person stating this was dropped on their head at birth...

what they do not understand is they did not only hacked her email account they hacked Yahoo also and that is a federal offense ...... and Yahoo states in it’s TOC’s it is governed per say by California laws .... so whoever did it can be in a hell of a lot of trouble and i bet you they will be caught .... and i say nail'em hard ..... anyone that hacks (as in the meaning being used here) is a criminal plain and simple ... and i'll go ahead and say anyone that doesn't get it is breaking the law ia a complete idiot ......
and i'm not sure of the complete legal liability of the use of hacked material in this incident but i grant you it will be part of the process ...

I guess only liberals have a right to privacy, well, liberals and terrorists. After all, the dems don't want to allow the government to wiretap known terrorists, without a court order, but it is okay for them to invade the privacy of Palin and then publish that info on the net, for all to see.
I can just imagine what would be said, if a repub hacked into Obama's private email and published it on the net.

Was Palin's e-mail hacked?
Gawker, a site best known for its catty observations about important subjects like celebrity clothing faux pas and stalker celebrity sightings, claims to have obtained screen shots from one of Sarah Palin's private Yahoo e-mail accounts.
Now, of course, Gawker isn't the New York Times, so it's only reasonable to be skeptical, but there are reasons to think this report is legitimate.
According to Gawker, numerous anonymous individuals managed to hack their way into one of Palin's private accounts, gov.palinatyahoo.com. This is a different e-mail than gov.sarahatyahoo.com, which Palin allegedly used to send work-related messages, including e-mails about her involvement in Troopergate. Both e-mail accounts have now apparently been deleted.
The screen shots Gawker includes of the hacked account suggests that it actually belonged to Palin. There are e-mails to Ivy Frye, a Palin aide, as well as to an address known to belong to Palin's husband, Todd. Need more evidence? There's also a cellphone number for Bristol Palin that seems to go to her voice-mail. There are pictures of Palin's family reportedly downloaded from the account. And as the Gawker post points out, "The public profile for the gov.palin address dates its last update to April of this year -- well before she became McCain's running mate. So if it's a hoax, it's a hoax that began long before anyone outside of Alaska cared about Palin."
However, those interested in the actual content of the e-mails may be disappointed. While the account may add to the speculation that Palin was conducting public business from a private account -- perhaps in an attempt to immunize herself from public records and disclosure laws -- Gawker's images offer up little in the way of newsworthy information. Gawker shows an e-mail in which Palin writes about her understanding of the role of the vice president and another in which she discusses a local radio talk show host. Not exactly items that will make or break a candidacy.
A McCain spokesman did not respond to a request for comment from Salon.
Update: The e-mail account was real. Rick Davis, John McCain's campaign manager, has issued this statement:
