McCain Seeks to Delay Presidential Debate
Senator John McCain said that he would temporarily suspend his presidential campaign on Thursday to return to Washington to deal with the financial crisis and the bailout package pending before Congress. Mr. McCain is asking Senator Barack Obama's campaign and the Commission on Presidential Debates to postpone the debate scheduled for Friday night.

I certainly hope that is the real reason behind this shocking decision! I hope and pray that our government will come to some rational decision about what's happening to our economy. We are on life-support now, and a decision MUST be made, and soon.
Obama's camp just announced they are going to continue with the campaign.......figures.

The Obama campaign said Obama had called McCain around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday to propose that they issue a joint statement in support of a package to help fix the economy as soon as possible. McCain called back six hours later and agreed to the idea of the statement, the Obama campaign said. McCain’s statement was issued to the media a few minutes later.
“We must meet as Americans, not as Democrats or Republicans, and we must meet until this crisis is resolved,” McCain said. “I am confident that before the markets open on Monday we can achieve consensus on legislation that will stabilize our financial markets, protect taxpayers and homeowners, and earn the confidence of the American people. All we must do to achieve this is temporarily set politics aside, and I am committed to doing so.”

redhair - the problem is that the Democrats want to politicize this by adding in the bailout of credit card companies (bastids charging 20% interest while buying money for 3%) and car loans companies.
The Democrats are idiots. Period

NEW YORK - Barack Obama's campaign says he is inclined to go ahead with Friday's presidential debate, even though rival John McCain is calling for a delay. McCain said Wednesday that he wants to stop all campaigning tomorrow and postpone the debate so they can work together on the financial crisis.
But Obama campaign officials say the senator is inclined to move ahead.
McCain said the Bush administration's plan seemed headed for defeat and a bipartisan solution was urgently needed.

And then McCain jumped in and made his little speech.. and according to reporters with the Obama campaign, they have been totally blindsided by McCain pulling this.. got to wonder who is playing the politics card the hardest here.. time will tell, still waiting on a statement from Senator Obama....

So just who is playing politics? Sounds like McCain set Obama's campaign up by agreeing to a joint statement, and then staging his 'news statements' to make Senator Obama look bad for wanting to go forward with the debates.
If the economic crisis was/is so important to John McCain, then why did it take him a week to decide that he needed to 'suspend his campaign and return to Washington'.. takes him a week to make that kind of decision? That doesn't bode well for his leadership abilities in a crisis situation, where action needs to be taken quickly..
