Wouldn't you think that with an 'economic crisis' our leaders should take time to consider what the best moves would be? No, rather the House has declared 'martial law' -- a suspension of the rule that says that legislation must be available for review for a day before a vote is called.
Instead, the House must vote today on any legislation brought before it -- without even a chance to read the possibly hundreds of pages contained within it.

lacy..in this "financial times" every day that passes without the government doing something constructive is a day of uncertainty for the american financial comunity..
WaMu was in deep shit.. without the bail out package.. the federal deposit insurance ( ponzi) scheme would be exposed for what it has become... worthless..
wachovia was just bought out by citybank... who stands now to profit by this bailout as written... ..by selling off questionable portofolio's for more money that what they normally would get..
the american people think that the action was to save the world as we know it.. the reality is ...that there are pretty much only the big three banks now..
bofa.. jpmorgan/chase.. and citygroup..
is this a good thing??
beats the hell out of me....

This is precisely how the Demiturds intend to stick all sorts of earmark spending, slush funds and other slippery projects (like ACORN funding) into the bill.
It comes as no surprise that Nancy Pelutsky would do this...
At least there were enough "Americans" in Congress that actually had a conscience to vote it down...Thank GOD!

LOLOL...the slippery old Demiturds will try to get their slush funding and ACORN funding somewhere and make the American taxpayers foot the bill. That's a given...
It will be interesting to finally see the fine print of what was in the defeated bill. That is, if Nancy Pelutsky will allow the details to see the light of day...and I seriously doubt that

It will be interesting to see just how many Republicans go along with whatever is proposed and shrug their shoulders as if there was no other option for them. I have a strong suspicion that opinions on this bailout do not fall so much along party lines as along pay-off lines.
I would like to see every representative who goes along with this heavy-handed process kicked out in the up-coming elections. What kind of representation can our congressmen give us if we are not allowed to give our opinions on the bills and even they are not given adequate time to review them.
This economic crisis was not created in a day and neither should Congress be trying to fix it in a day. Of course I firmly believe the whole housing bubble/financial collapse/bailout is part of a plan and has been building according to plan for some time and is not the emergency it is being played as.
And, what the American economy, and its people, are not even close to being prepared for is how both China and Russia are going to be dealing with the new “Peoples Republic of Wall Street” in demanding their debts be paid immediately in full.
One particularly crushing response to the United States current crisis circulating in the Kremlin today, written by Alexander Dugin, described as the “New sage of the Kremlin”, advocates the combining of both Russia’s nearly $500 billion and China’s 20,000 tons [est.]gold reserves to back a new gold-backed Eurasian Currency modeled on the Euro, and which if implemented would ‘shock’ the American dollar to such an extent that it would cease exist on International markets.
This report further notes that the United States is already preparing for such a response from Russia and China by this past weeks invoking of the Gold Reserve Act of 1934 by the US Government in a desperate move to protect their money markets for the first time since the Great Depression, and of which the vast majority of Americans remain oblivious to the fact that their personal gold holdings can still be confiscated by their officials at anytime of their choosing despite the 1975 laws allowing these people to own gold again.
In all of these events, and as we have mentioned many times before, the greatest enemy of these American people appears to be their own ignorance as they, seemingly, have absolutely no idea on how to protect themselves, but which even Russian schoolchildren knows is the exchanging of a collapsing currency for one that is doing better, and which millions of ordinary Russians did during the collapse of the Soviet economy by purchasing American Express Travelers Cheques in US Dollars and British Pound Sterling.
To whatever becomes of these American people entering what is, in essence, a Third World Economy, it remains a main fact that they continue to ignore the many warnings from outside their country of the many catastrophes still to come, even to their false bravado of laughing these warnings off as they plunge into the abyss.

I'd love to hear if the bailout was configured to help anything other than banks, Gray.
Hmmm welfare for banks is OK as long as it extends to homeowners who got caught in their rollers? I think you're wondering the same thing Lacy.
That's what's happening across the pond... Our biggest building society Bradford and Bingley - a local outfit - got a bailout this week. Now I don't agree with nationalisation (typical socialist remedy) but at least it preserves the shareholders and the homeowners who are breaking under the current financial crash... through no fault of THEIR OWN...

Now, Bush will see his Presidency go down with Herbert Hoover's that was embellished by the Stock Market Crash of '29!

Heaven... Yes the bill was rejected. We have something similar with our two Houses in the UK (yours isn't full of Lords of course!)... And actually sometimes a rejection gives real food for thought before submitting again... something to chew on.
