Those were the findings of the Department of Justice's Office of the Inspector General in its 392-page report on the firing of nine US attorneys in 2006. On the heels of this report, the current AG, Mike Mukasey, has named a special prosecutor to continue the investigation.
The IG's report has called for the investigation continue, leading to the possible prosecution of individuals involved in the firings or of individuals who may have committed perjury or obstruction of justice at Congressional hearings or other sworn testimony.
The report specifically names former AG Alberto Gonzales, Deputy AG Paul McNulty and Chief of Staff Kyle Sampson for their role in the firings.
The report calls for additional investigation into the role that four individuals -- Karl Rove, Harriet Miers, Monica Goodling and Senator Pete Domenici -- played in the firings. All four refused to be interviewed by the IG.

Certainly not boring if you are the Republican running to replace Pete Domenici in New Mexico!
Nora Dannehy will be the special prosecutor. She is the US Attorney in Connecticut and her specialty is public corruption. If her name sounds familiar, Dannehy was the prosecutor of former Republican Congressman and CT Governor, John Rowland. Rowland saw the inside of a federal prison cell for taking bribes.
According to an article in today'sNew York Times, the US Attorney will be focusing on Gonzales, whose "memory lapses" and misstatements at several Congressional hearings and in statements to the FBI could be perjury.

More prison time coming up or more pardons!? If Bush can....he will! I call that Obstruction of Justice...if Bush does that!
I sincerely hope if Bush does...that Prosecutor sees it the way I do!

GH - did you read the article?
At the urging of the investigators, who said they did not have enough evidence to justify recommending criminal charges in the case, Attorney General Michael B. Mukasey appointed the Acting United States Attorney in Connecticut, Nora Dannehy, to continue the inquiry and determine whether anyone should be prosecuted. This is a dead horse. What BS!

Doesn't sound quite dead to me. We should spend at least the amount of money investigating Gonzalez that they spent investigating Whitewater.

Jail time in excess of 20 years is called for in each and every conviction! That is just deserts for all criminals involved in this!
