While both candidates are professing to be the only option, and casting the other as the most horrible thing in the world, I'd like to add one thing about this election. History will be made no matter who wins.
If the polls hold true and Obama wins, we will have our first black president. If McCain pulls off the upset, we will have our first female VP. There was a time in my short life when neither was considered possible. But with bigotry slowly going by the wayside, the normal people of America appear to be taking over. And while it probably won't happen in my lifetime, this election makes me believe it's entirely possible an atheist could one day become president as well. It makes me glad to know I live in a country where anything truly is possible.

This is an historic election in that respect, Kjac. By the way, nice to see you back in the forums.
I'm reminded a bit of the election between Clinton and Bush I, by this election. Knowing full well Reagan's popularity, Clinton didn't take an approach that attacked both the previous administrations, but rather (famously) asked, "Are you better off than you were 4 years ago?" What I remember distinctly was the sea change in the opinions of people, as soon as the day after the election, when they said, "Okay, things still ain't great, but we know they're going to change. And we're optimistic about that." I see very strong elements of that in the upcoming election. Whether rightly or wrongly, I think an Obama election will serve to have that same sort of vitalizing effect on hope, on the mood of the country.
