Why, no matter what smear campaigns are saying, Obama's lead keeps growing:

Of course the Dubya Republiclones continue to look like this:

Both of you have a good point. Obama's lead is growing in the face of the already admitted smear campaign. But it was in fact a bipartisan effort to get this country where it is today. The problem is, there is no accountability, only finger pointing. Which leads to finger pointing over who is doing the finger pointing.

Actually, I've stated pretty clearly that both sides have contributed to this mess, and more than once. I do believe however, that the gut instinct approach to everything from war to the economy has been disastrous for us. Gut instinct decisions are actually superior, but only if you've already integrated enough information on the subject first. Without that background knowledge, it's how we got here and I still believe that John McCain is, as I've also stated before, no more a maverick than he is an economist.

Sorry, but the next bailout will be even bigger unless somebody starts doing more than tweaking things with 'economic stimulus' packages. We need a closer look at why our balance of trade is where it is, and what can be done to change it - without that we're not going to be seeing any of those 750,000 jobs we've lost this year alone coming back. We need to get away from thinking we can afford to do anything we please, like acting as if we're empire builders instead of the republic we were originally.

I've also stated before that I'm not for Obama, but I AM for change. We already know what doesn't work, and I'/m not about to be fooled again. Fiscal responsibility used to be the hallmark of the conservative outlook - but not for a long time now.

We have reached the point where just putting money into the pockets of Americans isn't going to do any good, because it's coming right out of those pockets and going to the Middle East or the Far East for gas and imported goods.

As far as being fooled again that is what most are doing by believing either candidate can or will fix all of the problems this country has dug it's self deep into over many past years not just the last 8 as some would like to think and believe .....

And believe it or not all of the American people are as much to blame as the president or congress if not more .....

It's our mentality of entitlement that has gotten US here .... As JFK so eloquently put it
And so, my fellow Americans, ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country.

My fellow citizens of the world, ask not what America will do for you, but what together we can do for the freedom of man.

Finally, whether you are citizens of America or citizens of the world, ask of us here the same high standards of strength and sacrifice which we ask of you. With a good conscience our only sure reward, with history the final judge of our deeds, let us go forth to lead the land we love, asking His blessing and His help, but knowing that here on earth God's work must truly be our own.

That is the same mentality that we should ask when we speak of our friends, allies, enemies, families and etc. Yet most only speak in terms of mine and ours not all.

Yes, JFK's words was but a speech as many before him and many after him have spoken words delivered to one or masses but maybe just maybe it is the mentality that JFK spoke of that this countries citizens and the world have forgotten and that is the reason we do have the problems that we are and will face as the next generations will also face unless that true mentality he spoke of thorough out his Inaugural Address can be reclaimed as the majority not the minority.

JFK Inaugural Address

And your point is? I can only speak for myself - I work hard, pay my taxes, obey the law and am fiscally responsible.

I've been crying doom about the deficit for as long as I've been posting here, and all I ever heard from conservatives (sorry, neocons, I don't want Goldwater rolling over in his grave) was that the economy's doing great, we're doing better than we did under Clinton...yadda yadda yadda.

My point is that McCain (and Palin for that matter) are not going to try to address some issues that are at the core of the problem - i.e. balance of trade, currency valuation, and much of it's to do with China. Part of our future pain is going to stem from our relationship there as both their debtor and their customer. If we try to tighten up trade restrictions (which by the way are totally one-sided - on China's side against imports from us), we jeopardize our chances of borrowing still more from them. To me that's a good thing - to the fiscally irresponsible it's not so good. The republicans aren't the only ones, but there's more wiggle room with democrats on this issue.

Edited to correct a really stupid slip.

As I was watching the debate the other night, it occured to me, the candidates are unable to stand before the American people and say,...........

GO GET A JOB !!!!!!!! ANY JOB !!!!!!!!!! GET OFF YOUR ASS AND GO TO WORK< and this alone will pull this country out of the mess it is in.

If every single child finished High school, and every single adult went out and got some type of job, the entire country would be headed for a better place.

But, this is not politically correct, in fact both candidates would lose voters if this was said.

Instead everybody want's something to nothing, what are you ( the candidates ) going to do for me.

This is such bullshit, not only that they say it, but that the people believe it.

Blue Eyes - didn't you get the memo? They can get jobs, if they move to India.

We lost 750,000 jobs THIS YEAR!! For the economy to grow, we need to gain 100,000 jobs per month (sorry I can't attribute this, but I'm sure you can find it if you google on the subject) while instead we're LOSING 75,000 jobs p/m.

Yes, we can all get work or create work, but the jobs that pay well are GOING, GOING, GONE!! Sure, get a job cutting lawns, or cleaning houses (and I'm not denigrating those who've done that), but the jobs we're losing are the ones paying 75-100K a year, and replacing them with 25K-30K a year taxable incomes are nowhere near enough to keep our GDP perking.

My point is that's all I can do. What point does patriotism play in this? Or are you taking the Phil Gramm tack and saying we're just a nation of whiners?

I hear you Blue Eyes. Last month I was involved in a thread where in Canada, there is a slightly higher unemployment rate than the US, that virtually anybody who is reasonable fit, has no self severe inflicted drug or alcohol problems can find a job for $50,000 a year. Once I showed people the jobs and the similar prospects in the US, the excuses came in such as how it would require being away from home, having to tough it out in a company paid four star hotel etc.

Nova - our unemployment figures only reflect those who are actually collecting. Those who are still jobless when their benefits run out are only jobless, not unemployed. So, this year we have 750,000 fewer of those 50K jobs...

And in Oklahoma, we have people begging on the streets right in front of a "Help Wanted" sign.

What's wrong with this picture?

I'll tell you what's wrong. People want to do a job they enjoy and get paid extraordinarily high for it instead of working for a living, even if it's temporary and a bridge to better things. Like when all I ever wanted to do was be a laborer and all I could find was a gig as a porn star.

'Oh the humanity!'

if you want to mow lawns or clean the rich people's houses, you need to be an illegal, or work at McDonalds.. I am so sick of getting the wrong food in my order because the person taking the order doesn't comprehend english.. but with things going the way they are now, i will be applying there for a job, so there will be at least one english speaking person at the local fast food joint.

Actually what's wrong is that it really has nothing to do with this...or are you suggesting that EVERYONE who's out of work could be employed if they wanted to be?

I'm not talking about anecdotal evidence or even opinions - three quarters of a million people were working at jobs that are no longer there. They may have gotten other jobs, but those other jobs are likely to pay less than the ones they had before, or they would have taken them in the first place...right?

My point is that the jobs we're losing are the ones that paid well, the ones that are open don't. I don't think that's a tough concept to grasp. Saying that when my 150K job gets offshored (not to India, probably Malaysia), I can get a 30K a year job doing something else if I so choose will fix things. Somehow I don't think so.
