AP Poll: Obama leads or tied in 8 crucial states
WASHINGTON – Barack Obama leads in four states won by President Bush in 2004 and is essentially tied in two other Republican states, according to new AP-GfK battleground polling that suggests most roads to victory are closed to John McCain. Obama could win big.
While no poll can predict next week's results, the AP-GfK surveys explain why Obama is hoping not just for a win but a transcendent victory that remakes the nation's political map. McCain is scrambling to defend states where he wouldn't even be campaigning if the race were closer.
Less than a week before Election Day, the AP-GfK polls show Obama winning among early voters, favored on almost every issue, benefiting from the country's sour mood and widely viewed as the winning candidate by voters in eight crucial states — Colorado, Florida, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Virginia. ..
The polling shows Obama leading in Ohio (7 percentage points), Nevada (12 points), Colorado (9) and Virginia (7), all red states won by Bush that collectively offer 47 electoral votes. Sweeping those four — or putting together the right combination of two or three — would almost certainly make Obama president.
It takes 270 electoral votes to win the White House. Obama can earn 252 by merely reclaiming states won by John Kerry in 2004. There are only two Kerry states still in contention — Pennsylvania with 21 votes and New Hampshire with four — and AP-GfK polls show Obama leading both by double digits. But Im not a fan of the poles, like so many here. I stick with the hard core EV.
psst looky at MS. Ga. Oh there's a lot of black voters there you prtest?! No wonder Obama winning you whisper? Ok then, what about AZ, MT, and the Dakotas? Strong Dem (264) 6 more and its over. Has anyone ever have this many EV locked in so close to the election and lose? Strong GOP (118) Has anyone that far behind, this close to the election, ever climb back and win? Yet these guys have all the answers to all the wrongs of the world, yet can't find the answer to winning this election. Hmm I don't know with my poor state education, but it seems to me that would have a clear indication that these people are, 1) out touch. ( proven) 2) part of the problem ( proven) c) living in a constant state of fear, belittlement, and self isolation. ( not proven but sure in the hell seems like it.)

According to Zogby it's a dead heat with a 3 point margin for error. There's another major poll specializing in objective criteria that shows the same result. There aren't supposed to be projections on state voting trends prior to the final results are cast, but don't let that stop our biased press corps. we don't need to vote they'll just do it for us.
Let's see Obama's got more than twice the campaign money than McCain from very questionable sources, has the media in his hands, as a matter of fact the media is even covering his ass in most cases not all, and he has 95% of the black vote guaranteed. That's nice just for starters. Reading about how Hitler came to power many Germans refused to take him seriously in the best educated culture in the world at the time which explained how he rose to power in such a short time with little opposition even though his brown shirted goosestepping buddies were thrashing the opposition in secret. Besides like Obama he had a very slick campaign propagandist.
The eve of destruction-I wonder if it is not upon us?
Anyway, Burns, it aint over until it's over.

Hitler Uh oh. He Godwined the thread...
**************************
Blond, it's been bandied about many times. The popular vote doesn't count. It's the electoral count. And it comes down to four states: CO, OH, VA, and FL. McCain needs all four. Obama needs one.
Unless every single poll is absolutely 180-degrees wrong, Obama will probably win at least one of those four.
**************************
Given the apparently assured victory for Obama, we can probalby drop that subject by now...
What do people think will be the composition of Congress after the election? I've heard that the Democrats are hoping to get a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate, and are hoping to pick up at least a dozen seats in the House...
Would love to see websites devoted to the Congressional races.

There aren't supposed to be projections on state voting trends prior to the final results are cast, but don't let that stop our biased press corps. we don't need to vote they'll just do it for us. Where do you get this idea? In 1980, major news broadcasters were declaring Reagan had already officially won the election before the polls were even closed in parts of the West and Hawaii. Many voters in those areas felt that it therefore didn't matter if they voted or not. The disenfranchisement of those voters resulted in a general agreement that no Presidential winner will be officially declared before ALL the polls are closed on election day. Educated projections on who is going to win are part of the political reporting process in the day of mass media. There is nothing whatsoever that says that "There aren't supposed to be projections on state voting trends prior to the final results.."
