I did a search....nothing came up
So what does this mean in California? People that got married under a temporary protection will remain married? Or their Union considered null and void?

loreli - The queers are now revolting in Cali. They are demonstrating and suing the State.
They should have left it alone. The State is bankrupt. The last thing they need is wasting millions on a dumb issue like this.

they said yesterday.... all that were married when it was legal will remain married. No more NEW marriages.
Amazing they were called that to begin with. Pitiful gays and lesbians should come up with their own legal term... like gay union and stop this nonsense. Next thing we will have people wanting to marry their pets and claim them as dependents

They say that there is now a possibility to take away the unions. This is gonna open up a whole wave of lawsuits.
Interesting that for the first time ever a constitution is gonna be able to be used to TAKE AWAY rights.

(11-06) 12:19 PST SAN FRANCISCO -- Opponents of Proposition 8, after taking a close look at the ballot totals from Tuesday's election, today conceded defeat in their effort to keep same-sex marriage legal in California.
The estimated 3 million votes yet to be counted across the state are not enough to close the 500,000-vote lead the "Yes" side holds with all California precincts reporting, officials from the No on 8 campaign said.
"While we think the margin will close, we are convinced we will not be able to overcome the small deficit we are in and that Proposition 8 will pass," Geoff Kors, executive director of Equality California, said in a telephone news conference this morning.
The measure, a constitutional amendment that bans same-sex marriage in the state, has received 52.5 percent of votes in favor to 47.5 percent of votes against it.
Kors and other opponents of the measure complained today about what they considered to be false statements and questionable tactics from Prop. 8 supporters.
They also predicted victory for the rights of same-sex couples in the future.
"That day is not today and it may not be tomorrow but I do not believe it is far off," said Kate Kendell, executive director of the National Center for Lesbian Rights.
Prop. 8 supporters won a surprisingly widespread victory Tuesday, winning almost everywhere in the state but in the Bay Area and a few other counties. Voters in Florida and Arizona also voted in favor of constitutional bans on same-sex marriage.

Thanks tat, and thanks, K
I thought I heard on tv yesterday that any marriage done between the filing and now, could be up for dissolution.
We don't have that right here...yet. But I bet it's gonna happen.

I did a search....nothing came up Upon my search, I found this:
Gay married couples face legal limbo if Prop. 8 passes Experts see a period of 'legal chaos' on the issue. A challenge to existing marriages would raise novel questions, so no one is certain how courts would rule. October 30, 2008

Interestingly, both Florida and California, which passed anti-gay marriage propositions on Tuesday, also gave their electoral voted to President Obama. It turns out that the large turnout of Black and Latino voters (both of whom have hig proportions of churchgoers) put the propositions over the top.
What might have happened if Hillary had been the candidate?

The queers are now revolting in Cali. There's tact and class for ya.
Why Gay Marriage Was Defeated in California The California vote was close but not razor-thin: as of 10 a.m. P.T., with 96.4% of precincts reporting, gays had lost 52.2% to 47.8%. Obama did not suffer the much-discussed "Bradley effect" this year, but it appears that gay people were afflicted by some version of it. As of late October, a Field Poll found that the pro-gay side was winning 49% to 44%, with 7% undecided. But gays could not quite make it to 49% on Election Day, meaning a few people may have been unwilling to tell pollsters that they intended to vote against equal marriage rights.

Loreli THis is interesting, the gay community is angry with the anti-homo vote, and they are calling for the most part :"White Evangelicals homophobes" but this is going to back fire as the voters are African American and Hispanic who shot down same sex marriage.
This means, the libs in the gay community could cause defections over to the repubican party by pushing this.
if that happens, the gay community would be responsible for ending the strangle-hold the dems have had in holding african americans down on the poitically correct slave plantation.

propositions like these are notorious for being declared unconstitutional...
the sad thing is that almost 75 million dollars was spent in support of it...

the sad thing is that almost 75 million dollars was spent in support of it... No, what is sad, is that people had to spend $75 million and that even after doing so, they can not get equal protection under the law.
The right to marry is a basic right in this nation. To deny two people their right to marry one another, is a violation of their rights, under the equal protection clause in the constitution, as it discriminates against people, based on sexual orientation. Keep in mind, you can't refuse to hire someone, because of their sexual orientation. You can't fire them for that reason. You can not deny them housing.
For some reason though, the government maintains that while private citizens are not allowed to discriminate against gay & lesbian people, the government retains the right to do so. (Like don't ask, don't tell.) It is ludicrous. If the US Constition provides for equal protection under the law, then that should apply to everyone, including gays.
The queers are now revolting in Cali. BTW, I know that some gays, refer to one another as "queers", just as some blacks, call one another "nigger". Referring to gays in that manner, puts you in the same class with other racists & bigots. If you want to be viewed in the light, as people like Fred Phelps, Jerimiah Wright, David Duke or Louis Farrakhan, then that is your choice. Personally, those are not the kind of people with whom I want to be associated. Perhaps you do.

Sorry - they not only call themselves queer, they call cultural events queer, social groups queer and lobbying groups queer.
You need some enlightenment.
What I find sad is the they put this up for vote and will not accept the results. In three states!
The in your face attitude of these political groups has caused more harm than good.

I can see why 70% of blacks voted for a ban on gay marriage... this is because I have not met many blacks who did not believe in God.

Interesting that for the first time ever a constitution is gonna be able to be used to TAKE AWAY rights. Is that what is happening? That just shows how skewed your view is. This is supporting the right of the majority, which is what the constitution is supposed to do in any state or nation. And in case you haven't noticed most of the world for the last 15 or 20 thousand years has sanctioned marriage between men and women and scorned any other arrangement. So I guess that the whole world has been taking away the "rights" of these people since the beginning of time. NOT!
You need some enlightenment. Vinny you can't enlighten a stone.

The in your face attitude of these political groups has caused more harm than good. That statment, I do agree with. The mayor of San Francisco may have caused this initiative to fail, because of some of the statements he made, on behalf of gay rights.

Vinny you can't enlighten a stone. Actually, you can. "Enlightening" elements is the basic science behind mass spectrometry.
Ya'll can go back to your usual ignorant rantings against gays now.
