Seems that 700 billion dollars is going many places instead of where it was supposed to. Even China wants part of the pie!
China the people we borrowed money from to give ourselves a stimulus check
AIG has burned through 123 billion and wanting more

Loreli, I'm not surprised .... wouldn't you demand on being rewarded for accomplishing .... uhhh, ummm ... wait, let me think .... I know they must have done something ....
Left, if the government thought of this, designed this, debated this, passed this and is handling this, do you really expect it work out the way they tell us it will .....?

Loreli, As you are in Iowa, have you contacted Tom Harkin and put his feet to the fire over this? Please do and see how he responds.
He will song and dance you to death. I promise and if I'm correct, then,
when I come back for visit to Iowa, I'll buy you a latte and you buy me a small glass of hot water with tea. Have a good day CT

The Detroit City Council passed a resolution today calling for a $10-billion bailout for the city of Detroit.
Council President Pro Tem JoAnn Watson sponsored the resolution to use the money for public service employment, to fund mass transit plans and to place a moratorium on home foreclosures for two years.
The resolution specifically requests the council meet with Mayor Ken Cockrel Jr., Gov. Jennifer Granholm, the state’s congressional delegation, U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and officials from President George W. Bush’s office and President-Elect Barack Obama’s transition team.

Thanks ...I talk to Harkin or Larkin often.
Can you explain your theory, though? I'd love tons of info to take to him/them.

That is just the tip of the iceberg. According to a report by the Financial Times, nine banks, Bank of America Corp., Bank of New York Mellon Corp., Citigroup Inc., Goldman, Sachs & Co., J.P. Morgan Chase & Co., Merrill Lynch & Co., Morgan Stanley, State Street Corp. and Wells Fargo & Co., have set aside $108 billion for payment of bonuses to executives this year. These same nine banks, have borrowed $125 billion from the fed. They say that they will
will pay bonuses from company earnings and their existing cash resources, as in prior years. I guess to an extent that is true. After all,the are paying these bonuses from an existing cash resource, the federal government. I really don't know who is more incompetent, the Bush Administration, for not seeing this coming, or congress (Reid, Pelosi et.al.), who passed the bailout package, without making provisions limiting the use of the cash. It really is unbelieveable.

Its going to get alot worse before it gets any better Loreli since weve elected Obama,Wisconsin Governor Doyle is being highly considered for the Attorney General post in his administration. What wories me isnt the fact that he will be leaving the state he put in the hole $5 billion but what does worry me is do we want an Attorney General that did nothing in Wisconsin to correct the nations worst records for reducing OWI offenses? This is where I tell you about the possibility that Doyle, who will be on Obamas cabinet, wont be chosen to be the Attorney General but will be chosen to be the Secretary of the Treasury.

Uh, didn't they all put this bill together under some rather intense pressure from the White House, who as I recall said that if they didn't pass a bailout, the country would collapse or some such crap? Paulson's original "proposal" that shrub endorsed had even less oversight in it than the final bill.

No - they put it together under their OWN pressure. If you remember the Republicans blocked it and it was held up for a week.
The Republicans forced Bawwwwwney and Pewosi to take out earmarks to ACORN.

Yeah, because Bush REALLY opposed the bailout
It was only six weeks ago, how short are some people's memories? Or how active their imagination?
Edit: Just goes to show you how unrealistic pure capitalism is. It ranks up there with socialism and libertarianism, with their intrinsic requirement that nobody cheats the system...

Well this guy cheated the system!
Virginia man pleads guilty to mortgage fraud November 13, 2008 - 8:35pm
ALEXANDRIA, Va. (AP) - A well-known northern Virginia businessman has pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit money laundering in connection with a mortgage fraud scheme.
In U.S. District Court Thursday, 47-year-old Vijay K. Taneja of Fairfax admitted that through his company, Financial Mortgage Inc., he defrauded banks of at least $33 million by creating fake mortgage loans and selling the same loans to several investors. Authorities say Taneja then pocketed the proceeds generated from refinancing loans.
Prosecutors say the case is the largest in Virginia in at least two decades.
Taneja faces a maximum of 20 years in prison and a $500,000 fine.
Sentencing is scheduled for January.

Time of death of the Republican Party was 10/03/08, they day they voted for the bailout plan.
If this keeps up, I'm going to start thinking that a confiscatory tax rate for the top 5% is a good thing. ~shudder~
Gotta give credit to our President-Elect; he's starting to win me over to his style of government.
And Detroit wants $10.000.000.000? (R)nold was only asking for $7,000,000,000 for all of California!

BTW, don't blame it all on repubs. All you have to do, to see just how deeply both parties are involved in this mess is to look at the board of directors for Citi Group. Dick Parsons, is chairman of the compensation committee (the committee that recommends to the board what bonuse will be paid) & Robert Rubin is Chair of the Executive Committee. Both are part of the group that make up Obama's economic advisors.

Citi - Board of Directors
Don't get me wrong. The repubs are in this up to their eyebrows as well. Just don't think for a second that the dems aren't just as deeply involved. Both parties are bought & paid for & Obama is no different.

Both parties are bought & paid for & Obama is no different. We were all scared stupid when Paulson and Bush came out with their Henny Penny, the sky is falling routine. The politicians, even those who resisted at first, said 'yippee, a license to steal!'
I voted against anyone I could who voted for it, but as for our presidential nominees, it was six of one and half dozen of the other.
Anyone for finding a little island somewhere that we can self-govern, grow our own food, etc.? Or maybe it's time for another revolution...these clowns are going to make an anarchist of me yet. What all of them have done to this country is nothing short of criminal.
