but"we the people" have the ultimate say.....( No, we don't. When we vote for a politician, 99% of the time they've been "vetted" by the one-percenters. WIthout major help, no-one gets to the national stage (and probably not to the state level either) without support from the power elite.
The system is designed to remove the whims of the public from the governance of the nation.

We live in Oz... We give away our power to the illusions behind the screens and there is no money, only 'notes'. We have been drugged and educated and hypnotized and addicted and we believe the dream. We have lost touch with 'reality'.

time takes care of most problems... As time passes, the trance deepens, the hoaxes become history, language and habit and tradition obscure more and more meaning and reality...
The names and faces may change a bit in four years, but the plot of the play stays on track...the track of the wizard...

Well I've got my ruby slippers cause there's no place like home.
I'm with SunBabe - the women really hold the power and the money! It's called "consumer" that's where the real power is.

Ah...the hypnotists switched the ruby slippers for the original silver shoes to confuse and entertain... We have all been gone from home for so long, there are only dim memories and we're pretty sure those memories represent the dream rather than the colorful stage through which we presently trip.
Consumer 'power' does increase debt, which we foolishly believe to be 'money'...and wants have become needs...

So true.
And if someone just happened to make it into power with some scruples [of course that means they had to lie to the power elite while running for election], then those P.E. that really control this country will use tools that range from slandering and discrediting in the media[of which they control], to assassination to rein in this rogue progressive. We have already seen Obama cozy up to AT&T with the telecom immunity bill, hense AT&T was a big sponsor of the democratic convention. I hope this isn't a trend. Top four of the power elite. I saw the one that holds much of the money in the US and still has power to make postive changes this morning. I'm really impressed here! I never thought of this fella as someone that would be this powerful. I knew he was involved in many many ventures but didn't realize all the ventures he was in - all while doing really good things, and making enough money to fund a bail out all by himself. Wow................ keep an eye on this guy he shared his planning on doing majical stuff.................the interview I saw on CNN cited 2010 as his year he plans on making some big big moves. For now thos he is buyin and stacking up the money.
Yep I like this guy - it's not all about him - his urban projects are just mind boggeling

Let's take a good look at Bill Gates!
THE MONEY: The World's First Trillionaire
Of course, it's Bill Gates, provided his monopolistic heart keeps beating for another 20 years or so. In fact, in the most optimistic of the four scenarios below - which assumes Microsoft shares continue to rise at their historic, nothin'-but-blue-sky rates - Gates will become a trillionaire just five years from now, and a quadrillionaire (1,000 trillion) before he hits retirement age.
To grasp that staggering figure, consider that to spend a quadrillion, you'd have to blow $1 million a day for 3 million years - or a period 100 times longer than recorded human history.
Age 49 The value of Bill's Microsoft stake has grown from $233.9 million at the time of Microsoft's 1986 IPO to $72.2 billion as of June 15, 1999 (disregarding stock sales). At this rate - 58.2 percent a year - he will become a trillionaire in March 2005, at age 49, and his Microsoft holdings will be valued at $1 quadrillion in March 2020, when he is 64.
Age 59 If Microsoft can't maintain its remarkable returns, but the value of Mr. Softie grows annually at the same rate - 17.6 percent - that the S&P 500 has averaged over the last 20 years, poor Bill would have to wait until he was 59, in August 2015, before he becomes a trillionaire. He wouldn't become a quadrillionaire until March 2058, at age 102.
Age 61 Say Bill decides to diversify. He sells all his Microsoft stock (to simplify things, let's assume this doesn't tank the stock), pays his 20 percent long-term capital gains tax, and stuffs the remainder in a mutual fund that tracks the S&P. Even after paying the tax man, Bill would still hit trillionairehood in January 2017, at 61, and age into a 103-year-old quadrillionaire.
Age 111 Bill no longer believes in the stock market. He sells all his Microsoft stock, pays the IRS, and buys $57.7 billion worth of Series EE US Savings Bonds. Even playing it that safe, Bill's net worth would top $1 trillion in January 2067, when he's 111. At this rate, Bill would likely be in cryonic deep freeze in September 2230, when he'd reach quadrillionairehood.
THE POWER How Much Is a Trillion?
It costs $288 to sponsor one child for a year through Save the Children. This means Bill could sponsor 4.16 billion children. Of course, only about 58.4 million people (adults included) live in all of Ethiopia, and the world's population is just about 6 billion.
The average per-capita income in New York City is $34,459. Bill could employ the entire city - men, women, and children - for three years and four months.
In fiscal 1998, the US Department of Defense's budget totaled $255 billion. Bill could hire the entire US military establishment for nearly four years.
As of June 16, 1999, the US population was roughly 273 million. If we all got together and wanted to make someone besides Bill a billionaire, it would require a donation of just $3.66 from everyone. On the other hand, to make someone a trillionaire would require $3,666.35 from every US citizen. http://www.softcom.net/users/dennis-ngo/trillionaire.htm

Oh silly me - I was thinking in terms of having enough "money" to make money and enough wisdome and compassion to "power" a needed change for someone else.
Oh well I tried!
I know Bill does some wonderful things with aids and such but I don't hear alot about his great works in the urban areas............ I think he used to focus on inner city kids but he's gone global now. Of course we need that too but I thought Majic's story was well ...... just worth posting.

If you look closely at both Bill Gates and Majic Johnson, you will see that both of their plans ultimately funnel more money/labor/power from the poorer people to the 1%ers.
If Majic really wanted to empower and enrich inner cities, he would bring local ownership rather than inter/national chains of fast food and coffee shops etc. to those areas. He is not bringing production anywhere, he is bringing increased consumerism there -- and marketing it as providing a service.
Similarly, Gates is bringing IMF financing to much of Africa as well as building markets for expensive drugs and genetically modified foods. Oh yes, those lucky people will one day get to be just as taxed/indebted and unhealthy/obese/cancerous/diabetic/plagued with autoimmune disorders like lupus, fibromyalgia etc, as we in the USA are.
