MIAMI (Reuters) - A Florida teenager committed suicide by drug overdose in front of a webcam streaming live video to the Internet and some viewers may have egged him on, authorities said on Friday.
Full story
Was this a cry for attention or a 15 minute-claim-to-fame that went horribly wrong?
And what of those who were watching? Were they partly responsible (especially those who "egged him on)? Should they, in fact, face some sort of prosecution?

Not necessarily true, if the state he lived in has an assisted suicide law. Plus do you really think that strangers could convice a person to commit suicide?? If a person is hell bent on killing themselves, they will, no matter what anyone else says...if they are looking for attention..they always provide an escape for themselves.. I think it was his way of going out in a blaze of "glory"..unfortunate..

I would agree delsoldamien but does a hardcore suicidal person really care for attention? A friend of mine once shot himself in the belly with a.22 after his gal left him.
That was for attention because a shot in the stomach isnt really a plan to die.
But he did.
Arent most cases of suicide done without the need for attention,because few knew it was going to happen until after it did?

Every state used to have facilities that helped in these type cases. After Reagan was elected he defunded all of those. Now, there is only a few days worth of help in a hospital. Shame!
This young man needed extensive psychiatric care. But, today there is no funds for these people. They are left to themselves and out on the streets.
This is one of the many things national health care would take care of! If this care had been available would this young man be dead today?
One thing for sure he would have received medication for his major depression!

I read a more update and indepth news article on this and from what Abraham's father stated, his son was bipolar and over dosed on two meds he was taking for his condition. The autopsy report confirmed this. He could have been saved if someone viewing this acted reported it immediately, but hours went by as the viewers watched (probably thousands), him sleeping before one viewer reported to the body builder's site moderator; then it was too late by the time the police arrived.

What BS - States use STATE money to run their hospitals.
Anyone knows that the LAW prevents the STATE from incarcerating a person unless they admit that they are suicidal or that a guardian can prove it.
No Hospital would turn down someone that confesses to being suicidal.

Exactly. if someone goes to an emergency room and states they are going to kill themselves...BOOM...they are an instant patient.

You are right - EVERYTHING you said is MOOT. You have no idea what you were talking about - once again.
If ANYONE - including YOU went to a hospital and said they were suicidal they would be admitted. PERIOD.
If a parent took a minor to a hospital and said the child was suicidal they would be admitted.
However the Law protects peoples rights. So if I called a Hospital or local police and said YOU were suicidal - you would likely succeed in your suicide regardless of how much evidence I produced.

It's sad. Ever since Reagan gutted the mental care system in the 1980s, we've had "throwaways" like this. People who are unable to receive the care they need.

SNG....yes it is a shame that the flotsam and jetsam of our society are thrown out to the dogs! Not all republicans but, some would really like these people to disappear all together. Kinda like the Nazis did their people....gas'em!
This is where national health care would really have an impact! Saving some of these people would be great!
Any life is worth saving in my opinion!

A real suicidal person doesn't let anyone know he's feeling suicidal because he doesn't feel like he's worth the help. And he doesn't want it, anyway.
