The stimulus bill passed by our Congress and supported by Obama, made a whole bunch of people angry.
More government programs and 'earmarks' or special pork resulting in billions of dollars.
More government in people lives.
We had 8 years of this with the Republicans.
People are beginning to have enough of both parties.
On the 27th of February, Americans all across the country mounted protests called the American Tea Party.
The protests were well organized and thousands came out to to voice their anger.
"Repeal It Or Retire' was the motto.
Below are some videos of the protests.

Just out of curiosity, since it's "just down the road" (90 miles) I checked the video from Wichita, Kansas. More people usually show up for city commission meetings than were at that protest. I'm underwhelmed.

Just as a comparison, how do these "rallies" compare to the anti-war demonstrations over the last few years?

Laugh.. They'll be more..many more.. People are tired of the games from Washington.
Yes..it's time for 'change'. Real change. Back to the Republic and not a perversion from these fringe groups calling themselves democrat and republicans.

Serious question. How do these rallies compare to the anti-war rallies? This is not about a 'war'..
It's about this Republic.
About people are tired of both parties ignoring them.
About time to get rid of professional politicians and fringe groups like the democrats and the republicans out of our lives. About two parties who are nothing more than two horses pulling the same wagon.
About getting back to our Constitutional Republic where politicans are held accountable and not some 'ruling class' over the will of the People.
"Repeal It or Retire'.
And if that means impeachment starting with Congressmen and voting in a new congressman and then the President, then that's the way it is.
Our government listens to us, not us to them.

It's a simple question. I'm trying to gauge the level of protest. To do that, I have to have some other protest to which I can compare it. I'm using the anti-war protests over the last five years as a comparison point. This is an "is it bigger than a breadbox, but smaller than an RV" type of question.
Please set aside the rhetoric. The question is, "how do these rallies compare to the anti-war protests?"

The anti-war protests started out small..started in homes, meetings and even libraries.
The Tea Party was started in the same way.
Protests were then organized across the country.
One meeting for example for state soverntry started in a grange hall. 50 people were expected, over 200 showed up. Now about 21 states have passed or are passing resolutions.
People are tired of the central government ignoring the People.
As I predicted over a year ago, look for a third party emerging.

Seems like every effort is being made to puff up the numbers, so far. Obama's numbers are holding pretty steady, and in fact had a large uptick in the last couple of days.

Read the papers.. Even news organizations are now questioning his 'pork'.
Give it until summer, when people are really angry. If there was another vote for president, I suspect he would lose..
By December or January next year, you will see a popular revolt with a third party.

It's been, hmmm, about 100 years since we've had a halfway decent third party.
Personally, I think you're engaging in wishful thinking. But we'll see in a year or two.

Personally, I think you're engaging in wishful thinking. To mount a national protest by a grass roots movement was also 'wishful thinking'.
We will see.
"In 1990, the Government seized the Mustang Ranch brothel in Nevada for tax evasion and, as required by law, tried to run it. They failed and it closed. Now we are trusting the economy of our country to a pack of nit-wits who couldn't make money running a whore house and selling booze? "

To mount a national protest by a grass roots movement was also 'wishful thinking'. Depends on what you're protesting. A protest isn't a protest isn't a protest, after all. It's the connection you can get with the general public.
For instance, if the protesters are just Republicans who are hoping for a "Hail Mary" pass to reverse their losses over the last two elections (2006 and 2008), then the movement is a just a tempest in a teapot.
Even if it's made inroads into the "undecided" voters, how deep is their commitment to the movement? If the economy shows signs of improvement, and there is even a minimal amount of proof to show that Obama's efforts have played a part in it (remember: the neo-cons are STILL trying to tie any uptick in the economy to Reagan's "trickle-down economics" policy, even 20 years later...), will their support for the movement fade?
I'm just saying: Don't get swept up in the hype. Your "survivalist" buddies may think this is the Next Great Thing, but without inroads to the moderates, the only party bound to be hurt by a third party is the Republicans.
Which is why third parties are always doomed to fail. Our political system doesn't have room for third parties. Any issue they champion ends up weakening their political allies.
Trust me, Obama would love nothing more than an anti-government third party to cause defections from the Republican party. It'd make him a shoo-in for a second term.

This is not about 'anti-government'. It's about the government being a servant of the People and do the will of the People.
Look at the vids.
Do they look like 'survivalists'..kooks?..radicals?
Democrats and Republicans have become no more than fringe political thought.
It's time for the American People to put these two fringe groups where they belong. Out of American leadership.

Frankly, Napa.. I'm seeing a lot of desperation from the people who are in the minority about the way they feel the country is being run. Kind of a refreshing change from being in the majority who are frustrated about the way this country is being run.

What part of this don't you get? What part don't you get?
Let's run some theoretical numbers. Let's assume the Tea Party succeeds in forming a viable third party. It poaches 20% of Republican voters, 33% of the "undecideds" (2/3 leans right, 1/3 leans left), and 5% of the Democrats.
So Republicans drop from 40% to 32%.
Undecideds go from 10% R / 10% D to 4% R / 7% D.
And Democrats go from 40% to 38%.
Net result:
Republicans: 36% (from 50%) Democrats: 45% (from 50%) Tea Party: 19%
Congratulations. The Democrats (i.e. Obama and the Democratic-controlled Congress) win again.
Show me one third party in the last twenty years that hasn't HURT its cause by running.

I suggest you get off these boards and get out more.. I'm not being sarcastic, but things are not like it was even 2 years ago.
Regardless, I am going for a third party.
Stay with whomever you wish and get more of the same.
I've had enough from both parties.

Hey, more power to you. You think that you've discovered a new formula that will bypass the lessons of history, great. My belief is:
1) There is a very good chance that this movement will fizzle.
2) If it doesn't fizzle, it'll mostly draw from the Republican party.
3) Given the closeness of the last few elections, a loss of even 5% of registered voters will end up giving the next election to the Democrats.
I'm trying to keep you grounded in reality, but if you want flights of fancy, there's not much I can do for you...

I'm trying to keep you grounded in reality, but if you want flights of fancy, there's not much I can do for you... The reality is, this is going no where.
Our money is being wasted.
Both of these parties are nothing more than fringe thought that have corrupted our system.
You know that..
I know that..
Most Americans who have a clue know that.
That's the reality..
Now you can go stick your head in the sand or throw in the towel because you 'think' these parties can't be beat.
I'm not wired that way..
Now go back and argue on the boards, cut and paste your stats and sit in front of your monitor arguing about parties who have went from one cluster fvck to another. Go dig up dirt on the dems or repubs as that seems all this board is good for. Frankly, I think most of you stay on this computer too much and need to really get out more and see what's going on instead of the same dem/repub drivel.
In the end, it won't make any difference.
It does'nt matter, dem or repub, just two horses pulling the same wagon.
If you really want to make a difference, then do something 'different' and stop the dem/repub retoric.
Because that is what it is..
Retoric.
And you know and I know, that in the end, dem or repub, they are still doing the same thing they always have..spend and cater to foreign interests.
That is the reality.
