Canada, often touted by liberals to be some kind of panacea of government run health care, is only that in the eyes of the completely ignorant.
Fact is that the government healthcare system in Canada (and everywhere else it has been tried) is a complete disaster. It's so bad, that US hospitals on the Canadian border are doing a booming business treating Canadians who would rather travel here to pay for care than take the "free" care provided by their own government at home.
There was a huge scandal some years ago when even the Canadian Prime Minister flew to the US in the middle of the night to secretly have his surgery done here rather than take his chances with the abysmal government run Canadian system. Everywhere there is a government run health care, there are horror stories, in the UK people pulling their own teeth because they could no longer wait for dentist's appointments, people dying of easily treated illnesses because they can't get the necessary tests.
Yet, this is the system that Obama and the Democrats want to force upon you. This is the system that they are tying to spend trillions of your dollars to create.
No one is questioning that there are lots of problems with the current health care system. No one is saying that there shouldn't be changes to make it better. But to scrap the system that people all over the world rely on to be the leader and innovator, the one where dignitaries come to when their lives rely on it, the one that has had more breakthroughs in scientific, medical and technological innovation than any other in history is INSANE.
We need sensible changes, NOT A GOVERNMENT TAKEOVER.

100% of people here already get health care -- including trespassers who are here ILLEGALY. And many of them pay nothing (you are forced to pay for them). Been to any emergency rooms recently?
An emergency room is REQUIRED BY LAW TO TREAT ANYONE WHO GOES THERE.
So this propaganda about people having no health care is BOGUS.

I am in emergency rooms all the time. I have to wait forever while people with colds, hangnails and high on drugs get their treatments.

yep, the emergency room is where lots of people get their healthcare, for anything from a cold to a splinter. and before ya call me a liar, ask an ER nurse. They cannot turn anyone away without treating them. Thats why it costs me so much when I go.

Fine. WHY must they go to the emergency room? WHY must they tie up vital resources? Wouldn't it be more efficient to start offering basic healthcare to KEEP them out of the emergency room?

A few years ago, my girlfriend had an accident and had to be rushed to the emergency room in a hospital in the heart of New York City.
She was in a WHEEL CHAIR IN TERRIBLE PAIN. Yet, a group of laughing drug addicts came in after us, sat across from us, and were seen before us. It happened AGAIN. THREE OR MORE MORE TIMES.
While my girlfriend sat there with unknown injuries, in terrible pain, at least 6 or 8 others who went to the desk and reported having NO INSURANCE were seen before she was. (I know they had no insurance because we were sitting right next to the check in desk and I heard them say it).
And they were clearly not in the medical distress she was in.
My girlfriend was probably the only paying person in the room.
I was FURIOUS!
So don't tell me that peple without insurance don't get treatment, that's bull.

Your arguments work against you, DR. If there were a way for the poor and addicted to see doctors WITHOUT going through the ER, would they have been there?
And we currently don't have "socialized medicine," so blame the triage on bad decisions of the nurses, not Obama & co.

Government run health care does not work. You cannot point to an example of any country where it does.
I already stated that the current system needs adjustments. That is not a case for government control.
The primary argument by liberals -- that there are people here who cannot get health care -- is false. It's a fraud.
The reason they use it is because they have no real case they can make based on honest facts.
However, one of the reforms needed is to REVOKE THE HEALH CARE OF MANY OF THOSE WHO NOW HAVE IT AT OUR EXPENSE. Like Illegal aliens. That will go a long way towards solving the emergency room problem.

So because a bunch of illegals and lazy people don't have insurance and abuse the system by going to the ER,(btw i don't have insurance, i pay cash) i should have to pay more taxes so they can go to the dr. the hosptal bills are already enough for me. I don't think it is my responsiblility to pay for a hundred other people a month.
Every person has the same chance to make it in the u.s., thats what it is all about. But I don't believe the founding fathers wanted this to be a place where the lazy could come to have a living handed to the on a silver platter. Every person here is in the situation they are in because of their own choices, not mine. So why should it be my responsibility to pay for them.

The Democrats think people have some kind of Constitutional right to EVERYTHING at SOMEONE ELSE'S EXPENSE.
Health care ... housing ... you name it.
We should have to toil and slave to make sure everyone else is taken care of at our expense.

Nice try, DR, but sadly for you, 50+% of Americans disagree with you. The health care costs in this country have skyrocketed, especially in comparison to other countries. Fewer and fewer people can afford health insurance (my company seriously downgraded our coverage because our premiums about doubled, for instance), and the number of people who can't afford health insurance is simply going to increase without reform.
And it's not a matter of "lazy people," roy. People who work two or three jobs are finding it impossible to pay for health insurance.
It's always amazing how the neo-cons try to characterize average Americans as loathsome malcontents, as a way of denying the basic necessities of life. Is it any wonder that the public threw as many of them out in the last election? What is surprising is the number of average Americans still so brainwashed by the neo-con propaganda machine that they DIDN'T toss more of them out.

the reason people with 2 or three jobs can't afford healthcare is because of the lawsuits, and over use of the emergency room. that and the fact that everyone needs to drive a new car and live in a house they can't afford, they have cable and cell phones and all the latest gadgets, but healthcare i not a priority. And if having healthcare was that important to them, they would work somewhere that offered it. but when they can get it for free(ie... the ER, an OBAMA)why should they worry about it.
that still doesn't explain why you think I shoud have to pay for their healthcare.
also just what do you think will happen to their 2 or 3 paychecks when taxes go up to pay for their "free" healthcare.

Malpractice insurance is high because the doctors police themselves, and won't kick out the 1% that give the other 99% a bad name. Add in the way that the insurance industry invests its premiums (you didn't think they just held onto the money in some sort of lockbox, did you?), and the increase can be tied more to investment strategies than malpractice lawsuits.
And overuse of the emergency room...? What sort of circular logic is that? "Let's deny these people basic medical care because they're going to the emergency room because they can't get basic medical care." What...?
And "everyone needs new cars, blah blah blah..."? We're talking about people who can barely put a roof over their heads and feed their kids. These people are NOT engaged in conspicuous consumption.
For the love of Mike, have at least SOME respect for your fellow citizens. As long as you continue to demonize them, you'll never understand them. And you'll always wonder why so many average Americans are turning against the Republican party.

i have respect for people that take resposbility for their own actions. If you can't afford to feed your kids, then why did ya have them. I do understand that your from california and it is very bad there right now, but I didn't vote in your government, didn't tax your businesses to death, I didn't make all kinds of just plain stupid enviromental laws(and no not all of them are stupid, but lots of them are ridiculus) and i didn't make one child living in california, so why should it be my responsibility to support and care for people that are getting just what they asked for. when you make it where the big companies can't afford to stay, then you not only lose those taxes, you lose those jobs. look at detroit, it is going under, the whole city, because the auto makers can't afford to build the cars the way the government wants them to, and the unions are sucking them dry. just today i was in laredo tx, and saw at least 5 mini pickups with mexicantags that would sell like hotcakes up here, but they can't sell them here because of regulations. we are regulating this country into bankruptcy. And yes, it is the dem's who do most(not all) of it. and they are the ones who are screaming"HELP ME" and "IT's NOT FAIR" so yeah i don't think its my job to support them. they made their bed, let em lie in it.

So someone who has a good job and decides to have kids, but then loses their job and has to take two or three low-paying/no-benefit jobs should... give up their kids...????
