I guess I'm a "typical liberal," then. I believe in sharing what I have. I would give up my chance to see a doctor for someone who needs to see one worse than I do; I'd give up half my clothes to someone who lost theirs in a fire or who needed them for whatever reason. I'd share my last can of soup I have in the cupboard with someone who didn't have any food. I'd give my last dollar to someone who didn't have any money, regardless of how negatively it would affect me.
I don't consider healthcare any different. I mean, it's not like anyone's asking you to drive a Ford Pinto so that the poor can drive your Lincoln Navigator, you know. No one's asking to fund the downtroddens' face lifts, just to give them the same opportunities for adequate medical treatment when they're sick, like everyone else who can afford to pay and/or who is insured is privvy to.
Adequate food, shelter, clothing and particularly health care should be a fundamental right for every citizen, not just those who can afford to pay for it. The selfishness of some people is completely mind-boggling, at times.

and in a car accident, your auto insurance will cover your medical to a point
Unfortunately, medical costs can add up VERY quickly. Medical supplies, doctors' hours, a bed in the intensive care. That "$50,000 per accident" gets eaten up rather quickly. (I've worked in a medical setting, as an accountant, and I've seen the bills. The first few times, my eyes about bugged out...)

It's not about charity. It's about the seizing of individuals' rights by a tyrannical and power hungry government.
There is a difference between what you choose to do for charitable reasons and what you are FORCED to do by your government.
You have no right to force your charitable opinions on anyone else at gunpoint through the facility of the federal government.

Well, when all people collectively agree that healthcare is a fundamental right for all citizens, and not just for the privileged, then government-mandated healthcare systems wouldn't be necessary.
It's a shame that government HAS to step in and instruct people how to behave like decent human beings, or how to behave lawfully and rationally, but, unfortunately, that's just the way it is, and the way it will always be. Not everyone has as much moral and ethical depth as others do, and just because they don't doesn't mean that those who cannot afford healthcare should be excluded from it.

and i am not saying ere are not truely needy people out there. I grew up very poor, noone gave us a thing, we got by. how, we worked, we figured it out. but it is the people that think they are entitled to my money that piss me off. I help when and who I can, but should not be forced to help people.
This is not socialism, there ar still a few countries out there that are. If people want that sort of life, then thats where they should be. This country was founded because of unfair taxes, and thats what we are looking at all over again.
BTW pom, I send my unemployed sister a brotherinlaw around 400 a month to help out, how much can i count on you for?

Again, just because there are a few bad apples, doesn't mean we should punish everyone. Find and weed out the fakers and the frauds, but don't punish people who desperately need healthcare.
If there were a natural disaster, would you refuse to donate aid or time because there might be a few freeloaders?

I did work for 2 weeks for free after hurricane Katrina,actually cost me 600 a day to deliver the stuff, not counting what I lost from paying loads I didn't haul, but noone forced me to do it. it was my choice. If i had been forced would have been pissed
