“Friend, you cannot legislate the poor into freedom by legislating the wealthy out of freedom. And what one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving. The government can’t give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody. And when half of the people get the idea they don’t have to work because the other half’s going to take care of them, and when the other half get the idea it does no good to work because somebody’s going to get what I work for. That, dear friend, is about the end of any nation.” Dr. Adrian Rodgers

When this country gets to the point that actually half the people don't think they have to work, instead of 50% of the people in the country working and having only 13% of the income, or that 10% who would like to work but can't find a job can, you'll be sure to let us know, right?
The OP is misleading and misrepresentative, because the conditions spoken of are not a reflection of the actuality. It's a statement that says IF THINGS EXIST, this would be true. But things aren't that way. So, it's actually irrelevant. When the conservatives decide to talk about REALITY, maybe we can begin addressing the problems in this country together. Until then, I guess they're just going to let the liberals handle it and bitch about not being a part of the solution.

Serving God Full Time Have you ever thought: "What I would really like to do is get out of this job and serve God full time."? Dr Adrian Rogers
There are many, many layoffs right now, and jobs that people retire from aren't being filled. It's tough right now. But I understand one thing....if you're capable of working, and not looking-that upsets me.

when half of the people get the idea they don’t have to work because the other half’s going to take care of them, and when the other half get the idea it does no good to work because somebody’s going to get what I work for. That, dear friend, is about the end of any nation. Of course, the simplest way around this is to educate the one half of the people that no one is just "going to take care of them," and educate the other half that no one is trying to take away anything they need.
I keep hearing this "half the people," which no doubt goes back to the slanted report that says half of the people in this country draw more in beneifts from the government than they pay in. First, that ignores what those people ARE contributing, and the actually very. very insignificant number of them who are just "sitting around waiting for a handout." Fer chrissakes, if you listen to some of the conservatives, those of us who are working must be tripping over people who won't work to try to get to our place of business. It's a misleading argument that I, frankly. am really tired of hearing.

Whenever someone presents a point of view, or an opinion, and addresses those they hope to convince as "Friend," I'm reminded of those old carny hucksters trying to sell me a cheap plastic juicer. In most cases, what those folks are offering is a con. McCain did it throughout the election: "my friends." Limbaugh still does it.
I'm surprised at the number of suckers who buy those juicers.

Dr. Adrian Rodgers........isn't he the guy that flew the first plane into the World Trade Center? I don't know him. But, a friend of mine just told me he was the pilot that flew that first plane into the building!
Hey, sealacamp, you got to explain about this terrorist character you are quoting here!

The opening post can be found on the good Rev's website. Under the quote is this:
Don’t forget to order the album this message came from - “God’s Way to Health, Wealth and Wisdom” (CDA107). We are making this available to you for a special price of $30 – that’s half off the regular price! Half price even. Wow. Order yours today and perhaps they'll throw in a juicer or maybe a set of knives. They slice, they dice...money back if not delighted.
Best laugh I've had all day.

This is a relevant view. Sorry you are all so blind by your little agenda to the point you can't see any truth any more, if in fact you ever could.

Funny how tele-evangelists can give you the hee-bee-gee-bees even after they're dead.
But still MUCH scarier while alive!!!
Salvation for profit...what a concept!!!
And people fall for it...
Go figure...
televagelists are an even lower form of life than politicians.....
Fact is this quote which is the subject here is just a variation of one that's been going around on the net attributed to various people...Lincoln for one...
