B&T: I am not MF
Oops. My bad. *blush* So much for everyone thinking I'm perfect. My image is blown!
B&T: If you advertise these types of services, then you need to be prepared for the type of people that will respond
Absolutely. But, "...asking for trouble" is blaming the victim. (The same phrase, used with respect to 9/11 brought the fully understandable wrath of many.)

OK, OK, so you made your point.. I was waiting for the other's to come running in here as well.

So the point is, this young woman was shot dead in a hotel because she was dumb enough to go there.. it was all her fault that some jerk has decided that he has the right to stalk 'stupid' women on craig's list and lure them to be attacked, robbed and now murdered..

Ok, well I hope the Mods lock the thread, because a thread started out of concern for a predator has become a cause for blaming the victim for being attacked.. dang.

So the little girl who was brutally murdered out west somewhere (everything is out west when you live on the East Coast) was the cause of her own death, because she let the woman who killed her take her prisoner. Every victim of every crime causes their victimization themselves, and the criminals are just the innocents that take advantage of people's gullible trust and innocence. Yup, yup.

ok..back to the original op...craigs list is the wild wild west...with no safety net built in...people who advertise for anything on there just might be the bad guy. (and probably are....) .people who agree to meet anyone..for any reason from that site.. should be wary..

that said..it is not the sites fault....

it is sad that this woman was killed.. but do the numbers..and you will find out that it is the exception to the rule...not the norm..there was a woman who was killed after going home with a fellow patron from a bar... there was a woman killed for not stopping for the police...there was a woman killed for........

ever been to a day spa?

^^^^Some key words! Spas and legitimate places of business run a lower risk of having incidents like this happen. We all take chances in even the most simple things in life. However, whatever this girl's reasons were for administering massages in an out of town hotel room, she should have had enough sense to know the odds of having someone seeking more than having a relief from stress by an innocent massage were high.

One of the articles alluded that he may be targeting his victims. When one puts oneself in the "company" of an exotic dancer and a prostitute, one should expect the clientel is going to be a little less than desirable. I'm not saying it is right or wrong, it is just one of the facts of life.

From what "America Most Wanted" states, she did not die at the time of being shot...she died later at the hospital:

Sad but true.

If you are going to use the internet for meeting people, making money, whatever, you better have your smarts intact.

Even smart people often get taken.

Sorry, Katie, but threads do not always go the way the OP intends for them to go.

We are all different and will have different opinions on everything. At no time will any of us here have the exact same thoughts on one subject.

That's why it's called "discussion".

Eyes.

Savannah-
NOBODY SAID SHE DESERVED IT!

We take chances on ANY site for any thing we are offering.
We don't know what the "buyer" is like....

People just need to take appropriate precautions, Sav, where ever they meet. Whether a singles club, church, or internet.

No doubt, some places have higher risks than others. Presumably, a church meeting is low risk, cause people know people. The "new person" has references (implied or specific). The club person might've been "seen around".....the references are weaker, but still there. The internet meeting is a total unknown, so additional caution is warrented.

How many "Johns" did she victimize prior to her demise? I certainly feel sorry for what happened to her and have no personal qualms with prostitution, but she was involved with a high-risk activity and I'm quite certain she knew that beforehand.

This guy if it is the same one, went to three states in less than a week's time. He should get caught very soon, especially with the FBI working with the Craigslist owner to identify him.

GH posted:

I never meant to imply it is the site's fault. The only reason I thought it was important to post about this incident was to get it out there that there is a man who is using Craig's List in order to serek out victims to attack. That a young woman died as a result is the tragedy. That the woman did not have a perfect past should be not make a difference to what the point of the article is about.. that some man has discovered the perfect way to seek out women to attack, rob, and now murder..

That was the point of the thread, and the reason it was posted. I guess this should have been a blog and not forum post.

I know this was posted to get a reaction.. well it has...

You know nothing about this young woman. Where do you get the right to judge who she was or why she was there that night?

How do you get to judge her for her actions, when you have no clue why she was there, or what her past really was?!?

My God, save us from the judgemental people with no compassion in their souls at all. Sounds very much like someone who has been a victim himself as a "John" who got taken.... something to think about..

Many, many people have used the internet to do just this.

If you put yourself out on the internet, just be sure to educate yourself on the dangers and don't forget to bring your brain.

Capo...from what her associates and her friends have been saying, she was not a "prostitute"...

Inside the hotel room, cops found a massage table. Cops initially termed her a prostitute, but later referred to her as a masseuse

Care to say that plain, and not hedge it?

He blamed the dead woman for being dead because she advertised a service (massage). He assumed she was a hooker, and questioned:

How many "Johns" did she victimize prior to her demise?

Loreli, I started this thread to point out that some creep was out there stalking young women for the purpose of attacking them and robbing them. It quickly became a judgement of the young women this jerk attacked.

If I find it frustrating that the point was completely overlooked in the effort by some to place the blame for this young woman's death on her own actions, and make statements that should give some pause for their condemnation of yougn women they don't even know, then please forgive me for lashing out, or at least make some effort to understand.

Everything posted by some here seem to indicate that they don't see what the man did was as wrong as the young women who posted on CL. It very much sounded like they were condemning the victims, and could care less about the culpability of the guy committing the crimes.
