Looks like she might have her eyes on the White House for the 2012 election, although she has not publicly indicated this.

Palin to Resign as Governor of Alaska
By Mitchell L. Blumenthal

Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska announced Thursday that she would step down by the end of the month and not seek a second term as governor, allowing her to seek the Republican nomination for president in 2012.

Ms. Palin, who was Senator John McCain’s vice presidential running mate in last year’s election and rallied the party’s conservative base, explained her decision at a news conference at her home in Wasilla, accompanied by her husband, Todd, and other family members.

“We know we can effect positive change outside of government,” she said in making the announcement.

Ms. Palin, who was known as Sarah Barricuda when she played basketball in high school, used point guard analogy, saying she knows “exactly when to pass the ball so the team can win.”

She said that she planned to hand over the reins of the state government to Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell, who would be sworn in at the governor’s picnic in Fairbanks on July 25.

There had been wide speculation that she would seek to be the Republican Party’s presidential candidate in 2012. Gov. Tim Pawlenty of Minnesota, who is also considered to be a Republican candidate for president in 2012, recently announced that he would not seek re-election.

By leaving office early, Ms. Palin will be able to travel around the country more freely and not have to deal with the constraints of being a governor.

I'm sure the democrats hope she'll be the frontrunner, given the way she thoroughly embarrassed herself last year.

She might be aiming, but I'd vote for Limbaugh before I'd vote for her. At least he doesn't pretend to be something he's not.

Running for president takes a lot of work, money, and time. Especially if you made as big a fool of yourself as Palin did last year. Pretending this is anything other than a presidential run is condescending to the intelligence of the people who already decided they didn't want her near the White House.

I could have sworn that it was John McCain who was the candidate that was defeated.

Rudy was stupid enough to think he was presidential material, and he's 10 times smarter than Palin. So yeah GH, I think she's dumb enough to believe that even though America voted against her once, she can try again and win.

Where's your sense of history? Richard M. Nixon lost to Jack Kennedy (and mayor Daily) and came back to win later.

You need to search for a better argument; that one does not hold water.

Speaking of someone not knowing their history lessons, who has ever lost a presidential election, then come back to beat the same person? I'm not saying it has never happened, but it hasn't in my entire lifetime.

America chose Obama over her once, and even the Republicans know they'd do it again.

It's always possible that people will vote for her, simply because she's a woman...

(Hey, if people can claim "people only voted for Obama because he was black"... )

I'm sure that was McCain's hope when he picked her as a political stunt Napa, but it didn't turn out that way.

The vote among blacks definitely supports that claim. The bigger benefit that 0bama received is that he was spared tough questioning from the press, particularly during the primary elections...but it occurred prior to the general election, too.

Was the black vote for Obama significantly higher (in statistical terms) than the historical average for Democratic candidates (since, say, the "Southern Policy" of the 1960s)?

What does the black vote have to do with Sarah Palin giving up her power?

Roughly 10% higher than the previous "black" president, William Clinton.

...or she could just be fed up with her family being on the news and not what actually should be in this country.

America chose 0bama over John McCain, not over Sarah Palin.

Who knows what will happen in 3½ years? 0bama's polling numbers are continuing to decline; unemployment is continuing to increase. These are volatile times.
