Yes, that's what someone just said on the Television. One of those whacko fans.
So here's a question for those who think along the same lines....
Can you name and actor/actress/singer from the 1800's??
Each were famous in their own right, but are forgotten.
I'm sick of people glorifying people like this. A moment of silence in Congress was about it for me......
Get this dead guy off my TV.

It doesn't really matter what you personally think of MJ, he DID have a great impact on the music industry.
Not an actor or singer but P.T. Barnum also contributed to entertainment in the 1800s.

Booth would not have been remembered if he hadn't have killed Lincoln.
"Jersey Lily" yeah, I wonder if she was good in bed. She had to be. Look at all the lover's she had.
Now, would she be remembered at all had not one of her lovers been Princes?

Actually, I think it's a little misleading to compare any performer from before the time of broadcast media to those who came after film and radio became staples in every crossroads general store in the country. Their works were seen only by those limited numbers of people who could actually attend their performances, and there was no way to record their performance for posterity. But a large number of people, at least of my generation, can certainly name actors and actresses from the first days of silent film and radio, like Rudolph Valentino and Clara Bow. And almost anyone remotely interested in the performing arts is likely to be able to tell you about Jolson starring in the Jazz Singer, 82 years ago.
To compare someone with the kind of widespread influence in their day that performing artists have today, one would better compare the kinds of art that had exposure as wide during that time as popular singers have now. Arguably not as many people saw them individually, but viewed and read their works. The widespread recognition of todays performing artists has simply been due to a wider audience of their own performaces of their work than was possible prior to that. A more apt comparison would be how many people "remember" Beethoven, Mozart, or Shakespeare (or even Euripedes or Aeschylus).

I just don't get it...
Never mind that he was a walking, talking, living fkn freak show who did nothing that James Brown and 100 R&B groups hadn't already done long before him. And they did it better, they did it real with substance & class, not flash & smoke & mirrors...
What really irks my ass....awhile back there was this guy. He was IMHO the best ever at what he did. He made REAL music that moved you down to your soul. He had his own demons and he finally faced them down, he beat them, and spent the rest of his life spreading the word how much better life was without an addiction to drugs. A
Yet when Stevie Ray Vaughn was tragically killed through no fault of his own...in no way related to some perverse life style...his passing was a fkn news blip that came and went.
Old joke, but seems appropriate to all the fkn hoopla.....
Wal Mart just announced they are going to have a 3 day sale in honor of Jackson's passing....Little boys pants will be 1/2 off.......

Wasn't Lily Langtry the "Jersey Lily". I remember the rumor that Judge Roy Bean (famous for being "The Law West of the Pecos" was so enamored of her he named his bar in her honor....lol.
Nice bio of her
As much as I liked MJ, this never-ending tribute to him is really rather sickening. The lying in state in LA is almost gruesome? You'd think Mother Teresa died? Even Elvis wasn't worshipped like this? I hope this week will finally be the end of it all.

Absolutely. It's on all the major stations.
Glorification of a freak show. And who's footing the bill for this crap?
CA is writing IOU's and they've got the police force, etc on site.
Nice priorities.
Glorify celebraties.
Then you've got McNair. His coach asked that people remember him for who he was on the field rather than his personal life. (His affair with a 20 year old woman)
Guilty or innocent of child molestation, no matter, he still hung his child over a railing.
WTF? Aren't these people supposed to be role models?

Can you name and actor/actress/singer from the 1800's?? William Gillette.
And yes, Booth would have been remembered, because he came from one of the most famous acting families of his time. Indeed, he made princely sums for his acting -- about $20,000 per year when the average wage was $800.

Apparently there are literally millions of people who disagree with the majority of posts on this thread, Goose, and that is why the memorial service is being televised world-wide, because to many people, Michael Jackson's passing is something that spans the planet, crossing lines between gender, money, color, religion, and everything in between.
I'll never understand the need to denigrate what one doesn't believe in, or just because one personally doesn't like Michael Jackson, why the need to ridicule and defame his name on the very day of his memorial service, when many fans like myself are sad that he is gone and are upset about it? What has happened to common courtesy and respect in this world? Why is there such a spirit of hatefulness present?
As Michael's career and music symbolizes my youth/childhood in my own eyes, and I know countless people who feel similarly, why not give us the respect we are due as people who have experienced an important loss, even if you can't give it to Michael?
(sigh) Michael Jackson was declared innocent in a court of law of all alleged sexual child abuse charges. His children are in mourning and his eleven year old daughter is apparently old enough to declare that he was a good father to her before an audience of thousands, not even including the millions who watched this memorial on television.
Michael's message was simple and it was one that anyone can attempt in their life on a daily basis. Perhaps instead of bringing ever more hate to the world, ridicule, and negativity, we could strive for something more uplifting, each of us in our own small way. There is certainly already enough hate to go around.
