My friend from China has never really talked politics with me, but she sent me an email yesterday with two links and comments...

Stimulus Jobs Overstated by Thousands

My friend said:
Not surprising at all. A "custom" in China until thirty years ago actually. China doesn't do that that much anymore nowadays (that's why they get some real growth.) The US is picking this up like a charm. What a shame!

Student Honored

My friend said:
This girl is from my school.[My friend works at the university.]

Lovely person, hearty response, all seems very poignant

That's how people reacted when a "God" like Kim, or Mao, mentioned their names or showed any interest of them...

I didn't listen to the talk but did get multiple notices in the kids' [her children are in elementary school] take-home folders announcing the "national address to challenge...", that all the school kids would "have the chance to watch" at class time, but could "opt out"... strange notices.

Government, or "God" is getting into the classroom. I wouldn't be surprised to see more teary eyes and "God fearing" sentiments...Gee, thought I had escaped China over that!!![my emphasis]

Deja vu for my friend... Have Americans been primed to follow in China's footseps?

good finds..and all that..but Lacy....China has nothing to do with any of this..

the Job reporting fiasco has to do with sometimes dishonest and sometimes stupid people who believed the republicans ..that this was free money for the taking.. but later found out that they were supposed to actually report back to the goverment.. ..( transparency) just what they did with the money...

and some chose to lie... hoping that their lie would fall throught the cracks and not get caught..

just like I bet that some of the clunkers...did not meet the requirements that were put into play..and dishonest car dealers ..still tried to collect...

as for the student...

Perez was one of three students cited by Obama as examples of what students can achieve if they study hard, set goals and accept personal responsibility. He said all three “faced challenges in their lives just like you” and “refused to give in.”

Perez, a student at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, “didn't speak English when she first started school,” said Obama. “Hardly anyone in her hometown went to college and neither of her parents had gone either.

"But she worked hard, earned good grades, got a scholarship to Brown University and is now in graduate school, studying public health, on her way to being Dr. Jazmin Perez."

Perez, 22, made her way into Obama's speech after her former English teacher at Roma High School in the Rio Grande Valley nominated her. The White House e-mailed her Friday, saying she was under consideration. On Monday, she learned she'd been chosen.

“I'm still in disbelief,” she said.

as I think it is all true...I have no issue with it...and hope that some students see her as an example....and try a bit harder to excel.... rather than saying...."what is the use..as.. the government is out of touch with reality.. the economy is in ruins..and big money rules....making up the rules as they go along...."

..tell your friend that in the USA....perceptions are everything...

Exactly... My friend lives in Houston and has for more than a decade. China has nothing to do with what is going on in this country. But what went on in China when my friend lived there and grew up there, is now going on here. She sees that! The US is becoming another China! Obama is its Mao. That is why he was chosen over Clinton or McCain. He has charisma, they did not. He talks pretty words and honors "the common man". Jazmin Perez and Joe the Plumber (that sort of back-fired on him) and the cop and the professor...all are little vignettes that make the "little people" who can identify with them feel as tho their "god" and "savior" walks among them.

The objective of this game is to seduce the American people -- as the Chinese people were seduced by Mao. The objective in the end is the same socialism that now pervades China -- the same socialism that the ruling elite desire in the one world United Nations government.

Our children do not need heroes like Jazmin Perez as part of the curriculum. The message delivered is not to inspire but to confuse and seduce. Children are naturally curious and natural dreamers. Their dreams and curiosity should be individually encouraged and stimulated. This regimentation looks like a positive, but under it all is what my friend sees as the evolution of the government into religion. Government is our new god. The new religion is the focus of government-run, government-financed education. Initially our "sharia" law will appear to be liberal, free... Ultimately we will have no freedom of religion, no separation of church and state.

Worse than following in the footsteps, Lacy. I think your friend and you both see that the US is picking up what China is throwing away.

China started to throw that away after the painful and bloodsheding realization that that was what had dragged the whole country into deep misery, poverty, and government slavery with only "God"-fearing sentiments in control.

Since then, China is moving forward with astonishing development. But now the US is moving backward into China's old, stale footsteps. If your friend's observation is correct, that would be a "change we can believe" to go nowhere but dragging the whole country eventually into deep misery, poverty, and government slavery...

Wow... the administration posted some early numbers without adequate factchecking? And all the rest because someone was proud to be held up to the nation as an example?

From what I see cruising around the internet, just under half the people in this country would be trying to find some way to sue the White House if Obama mentioned them in a speech. That's some stretch to imply that a little pride is just like the people who reacted similarly when noticed by "a 'God' like Kim or Mao." What about all the people who call their friends and family and tell them to watch the news because they're in the background on a segment about cleaning up after a storm? "Yeah, that's me with the chainsaw, working on that tree that fell on that house! Right behind Ms. Hott Anchorwannabe!"

I remember when I was in elementary school, taking part in a huge program, doing calesthenics, as part of a program touthing the success of the President's Council on Physical Fitness under Kennedy. I remember being herded into the lunchroom along with every other student in school to watch and listen to Walter Cronkite's reporting of John Glenn's first orbital flight live.

Funny, that this kind of thing wasn't mentioned about Joe the-Plumber-to-be when McCain latched onto him as the posterchild for those opposing sunsetting the Bush tax cuts and mentioned him in the debates.

Sorry, but I'm not buying that anyone in America the-I-want-MY-15-minutes-of-fame is exemplary of anything that was done in communist China. And I certainly don't understand how China overstating how well its people were doing as a policy about what face they presented to the world had any impact on how people were actually doing, or how abandoning that policy would have actually changed the economic face of the country.

from a lady friend of mine...

I'm not really concerned about swine flu. Here's my concern.

• 3 years ago, Chinese calendar year of the cow . . . Mad Cow disease.
• 2 years ago, Chinese calendar year of the bird . . . Avian flu.
• This year, Chinese calendar year of the pig . . . Swine flu.

Next year is the year of the cock . . . Anybody else worried?

I am not a fan of Zodiac but just to set the record straight in case anyone cares,

• 3 years ago (2006) is Chinese calender year of the Dog, not cow. The last "year of the cow" was 1997.
• 2 years ago (2007) is the year of the pig. There is no "year of the bird".

• This year is the year of the cow.

Next year is the year of the tiger.

These might give NightOwl some hints about, in part, what China is throwing away (N. Korea is still embracing), and the US is picking up...

Singing Tots in tears. Click the middle pic, and other interesting ones too...

Note the text revealed that the Obama speech which got Ms. Perez's tears "was initially accompanied by a lesson plan encouraging students to think about how they could help Mr. Obama".

Give me a break. What do you want? You want kindergarten and first-grade teachers to hold up pictures of Obama and tell their classes: "See this man? He is evil incarnate, and we should do everything we can to make sure that his plans for this country don't come to pass!"

Mao and his Red Guard? Please. Look at any newsreel film of Lindbergh or John Glenn in a ticker-tape parade.

Kindergartners crying "We want to see you one more time..." after the passing of a beloved leader? I'm sure you can find tons of YouTube material showing adults weeping to the accompaniment of Elton John's rewritten "Candle In The Wind" as a tribute to Princess Diana. Check out the lines some time of people passing the closed casket of John Kennedy lying in state in the rotunda of the U.S. Capitol.

Photo ops and propaganda. They have them and use them, and we have them and use them. BFD.
