Spanish Inquisition

The seal of the Spanish Inquisition depicts the cross, the branch and the sword.The Spanish Inquisition was an ecclesiastical tribunal started in 1478 by Catholic Monarchs Ferdinand II of Aragon and Isabella I of Castile. It was intended to maintain Catholic orthodoxy in their kingdoms, and to replace the medieval inquisition which was under papal control, and was considered too lenient. The Inquisition worked in large part to ensure the orthodoxy of recent converts, especially Jews, Muslims, and others coerced on pain of death to adopt the Christian religion. Various motives have been proposed for the monarchs' decision to found the Inquisition, such as increasing political authority, weakening opposition, doing away with conversos and profit from confiscating the property of convicted heretics.
The new body was under the direct control of the Spanish monarchy. It was not definitively abolished until 1834, during the reign of Isabella II.
The Inquisition, as an ecclesiastical tribunal, had jurisdiction only over baptized Christians. This included those who practiced forms of Christianity other than Catholicism, and at the time were considered heretics by Catholic Church and newly formed Spanish kingdoms

He had sought an audience from the monarchs Ferdinand II of Aragon and Isabella I of Castile, who had united many kingdoms in the Iberian Peninsula by marrying, and were ruling together. On 1 May 1486, permission having been granted, Columbus presented his plans to Queen Isabella, who, in turn, referred it to a committee. After the passing of much time, these savants of Spain, like their counterparts in Portugal, reported back that Columbus had judged the distance to Asia much too short. They pronounced the idea impractical, and advised their Royal Highnesses to pass on the proposed venture.
However, to keep Columbus from taking his ideas elsewhere, and perhaps to keep their options open, the Catholic Monarchs gave him an annual allowance of 12,000 maravedis and in 1489 furnished him with a letter ordering all cities and towns under their domain to provide him food and lodging at no cost.[17]
After continually lobbying at the Spanish court and two years of negotiations, he finally had success in 1492. Ferdinand and Isabella had just conquered Granada, the last Muslim stronghold on the Iberian peninsula, and they received Columbus in Córdoba, in the Alcázar castle. Isabella turned Columbus down on the advice of her confessor, and he was leaving town by mule in despair, when Ferdinand intervened. Isabella then sent a royal guard to fetch him and Ferdinand later claimed credit for being "the principal cause why those islands were discovered".
About half of the financing was to come from private Italian investors, whom Columbus had already lined up. Financially broke after the Granada campaign, the monarchs left it to the royal treasurer to shift funds among various royal accounts on behalf of the enterprise. Columbus was to be made "Admiral of the Seas" and would receive a portion of all profits. The terms were unusually generous, but as his son later wrote, the monarchs did not really expect him to return.

Our country is in chaos.....the president has now taken over approximately 30% of the private sector...9 trillion dollars of our money was handed over to ???? and no one knows who exactly got it....they said someone in Europe...The truth is this...it was given to the Rockerfellers and gang..and they have been galavanting all over the world spending OUR TAXPAYER MONEY...INCREASING THEIR HOLDING...THEIR WEALTH..AT OUR EXPENSE...No one knows where the money is....the loan companies are not giving the loans to the people like they were supposed to.....and you are having problems with me talking about this?

Anyone catch that new show "V", I missed it myself, but I did hear a conversation today about watching the show, and when ever they talk about "v" ( for visitors ) exchange them for Obama.
He was quoting lines from the show, and they sounded very familiar...

Imagine this. At a time of political turmoil, a charismatic, telegenic new leader arrives virtually out of nowhere. He offers a message of hope and reconciliation based on compromise and promises to marshal technology for a better future that will include universal health care.
The news media swoons in admiration -- one simpering anchorman even shouts at a reporter who asks a tough question: "Why don't you show some respect?!" The public is likewise smitten, except for a few nut cases who circulate batty rumors on the Internet about the leader's origins and intentions. The leader, undismayed, offers assurances that are soothing, if also just a tiny bit condescending: "Embracing change is never easy."
So, does that sound like anyone you know? Oh, wait -- did I mention the leader is secretly a totalitarian space lizard who's come here to eat us?
Welcome to ABC's "V," the most fascinating and bound to be the most controversial new show of the fall television season. Nominally a rousing sci-fi space opera about alien invaders bent on the conquest (and digestion) of all humanity, it's also a barbed commentary on Obamamania that will infuriate the president's supporters and delight his detractors.
"We're all so quick to jump on the bandwagon," observes one character. "A ride on the bandwagon, it sounds like fun. But before we get on, let us at least make sure it is sturdy."
The bandwagon in this case is conspicuously saucer-shaped. "V" starts with the arrival of a couple of dozen ships from outer space, piloted by creatures who look like humans except a lot prettier. "Don't be frightened," says their luminously beautiful leader Anna (Morena Baccarin, "Serenity"). "We mean no harm."
The aliens -- who become known as V's, for visitors -- quickly enthrall their wide-eyed human hosts.
A handful of dissidents hold out against the rapturous reception given the V's. Some are simply uneasy, such as the youthful priest Father Jack (Joel Gretsch, "The 4400"), who sharply criticizes the Vatican's embrace of the V's as divine creations: "Rattlesnakes are God's creatures too."
With or without the political sheen, "V" is sweeping television storytelling at its best. Whether you choose to view it as a blood-and-guts war story, a spy thriller (unlike the original show, these V's are perfect replicas of humans, so you never really know who might be sitting beside you at the bar), a high-stakes family drama (as households divide over the intentions of the V's), a religious allegory (the V's make a crippled man walk, filling up churches again) or just a sci-fi throwback to the days of "Earth vs. the Flying Saucers" and "The Thing," "V" is irresistible. This bandwagon is definitely worth jumping onImagine this.

Introduction
The Visitors are the aliens featured in the science fiction phenomenon known as V. This site is dedicated to the Visitors in specific and to V in general.
The Miniseries
The Visitors first appeared in May 1983 in the four-hour miniseries V (read the episode guide synopsis) made by Warner Brothers Television and aired on NBC. Kenneth Johnson was the talent behind V as its creator, writer, director, and executive producer. The show was such a ratings smash that the network ordered a sequel. NBC actually had wanted a weekly series next, but Warner Brothers could not find a way to make it work for the money.
A year later, the second miniseries was V: The Final Battle. Johnson supervised the writing of the script for the sequel, but he left the project shortly thereafter. Daniel Blatt and Robert Singer were brought in as co-executive producers. The six-hour mini-series aired in May 1984, and it was another ratings triumph for NBC. The network asked for a weekly series again (supposedly "just a couple of hours" after The Final Battle aired), and this time Warner Brothers was eager to oblige.
The Series
For the V weekly series, Blatt and Singer stayed on as producers in charge. At the time, it was the most expensive weekly television show at more than $1 million per episode. The series aired Friday nights on NBC and premiered on October 26, 1984. The series lasted only one season and was then cancelled due to a drop in ratings and a lack of viewers. The finale episode aired on March 22, 1985. After that finale episode (which was a cliff-hanger never to be resolved), V: The Series went into reruns on NBC for a short time, with the last rerun shown on July 5, 1985.
The New V
Remake? Reimagination? Reboot? Whatever you call it, a new V is headed to television. Airing on ABC, the new V series will retell the arrival of the Visitors and the truth behind their mission. The series is helmed by executive producer/writer Scott Peters and executive producers Steve Pearlman and Jace Hall. Kenneth Johnson is not involved in this ABC series.
