All the stuff I read seems to be either politic or shootings. What does everyone consider current events?
Just curious.

Oh, I really, really like that idea!! I googled good news..Dateline: 4/13/2006
Magdalene is a two-year sanctuary for women with a criminal history of prostitution and drug abuse. It provides safety, discipline, and "an unconditional love that the women have never known - it has apparently worked wonders".
The community has grown from one to four houses, plus a new beauty-products business where a number of the women work. More than 50 women have turned their lives around - to be "clean," hopeful, and productive. . . Today's Christian Science Monitor alerts us to this terrific news.
Magdalene enjoys an 87% success rate for its residents and illustrates at least five of the seven values represented in our good news philosophy: Responsibility, Integrity, Compassion, Cooperation, and Generosity. Donate to their Capital Campaign, or learn more about the program here.

Beautiful Heaven

Amazing isn't it? unconditional love, acceptance... giving a soul an opportunity to relive life with new eyes?

In all the bad things that go on, it is good to see the good things too.

I asked this site to have a current events thread to discuss up to date news.
Most news around the country has to do with politics or the Middle East war and that war brings up alot of religious discussion.Since they have decided to have three new topics-politics-religion and current events i suppose this one isnt needed.
It could be about what everyones personal current news is,like...
Where are you going for summer vacation or how much enjoyment did you out of a local fair or festival.
Maybe someone is traveling somewhere next week and wants to know if anyone from that area would like to meet up for lunch or even where to find a good lunch in that area.
Sorry,I'm off thinking about food again.

Just saw the ad below the thread postings. It's "Prison Penpals", now that might make an interesting current topic!

There's a pretty sad story on tv now about living on minimum wage. Heck, I have a hard time and I don't live extravagantly. The gentleman that wrote "Supersize Me" and his girlfriend went to Ohio and tried to live for 30 days on somewhere around 13.00 an hour between the two of them, and they are hurting.
Tons of topics, I think.

$13 anhour isn't nearly as much as people think it is. I make around 18 an hour and I struggled this winter partly because I don't work as much and partly to pay for heat.
$3 a gallon for gas. I pay $90 a month for cable TV and internet. $500 house payment + electric and phone. It just goes on and on.

wait till you try living on retirement income......if your relying just on social security......it cant be done, unless you opt for income based housing .
But then maybe we should take the lead from the illegals.....work for cash, don't pay any taxes and its all your money. The gal who cleans a friends house is an illegal, she works for 10 bucks an hour and works 40 plus hours a week. that's 400 plus a week or 1,720.00 a month.....because she has no visible income.....she qualifies for income based housing, reduced phone cost, food stamps, free medical at the health clinic and the list goes on and on. Oh and her sister does the same...they live together so they have around 3,500.00 a month disposable income between the two of them. They send a large majority of their money back to Mexico....where they are buying property for their retirement.
In the mean time, its the American working class, that is picking up all her tax obligations at around 24 % of their taxable income. Plus paying all their living expenses and medical cost.
The impact effects every working class person in the United States....
