How Old Go The Memories

How old go the memories
How long do they last
Before all the images
Fade back to the past

The minutes pass quickly
The hours slip by
'Till all that is left
Are longings and sighs

If life were a mirror
Whose reflection stilled time
Would the image of you
Forever be mine

The old chair sits empty
Where beside me you sat
Reflecting from mirrors
Soft hands holding hat

How long will you come dear
To comfort my grief
To tenderly console me
How long or how brief

I visit your memory
In mirror and song
As our music plays softly
So sweet and so long

How old go the memories
How long do they last
Before the image of you
Fades into the past...
