Hi everyine...I've got a pretty major headache tonight, I think it's because of the weather. My question is, how do you know it's a migrain? I know...sensativity to light, sounds, feeling nautious and so on, I have all those symptoms. But who determines that my headache is a migrain, or that it's worse than the next guys? I don't get it, help?

Well your doctor would diagnos that for you but it sounds like you have a sinus headache because you metioned the weather in your area...Check your local weather station and see what the pollen and mold count is for your area and that will give you a pretty good idea of where to start...Also, you can take a sinus pill and lay down and if that still doesn't help then it may very well be a migrain

IF you feel like your gonna throw up when you see light and your right eye starts twitching and get more intense and any sound is amped up 100 times louder to ya then it's a migraine. Ive fought em for 17 years. Try an empty banana peel on back of your neck, slimy side on the skin, or take drink can and hold it to your temple for 15-20 minutes. IF these dont work and you havent thrown up yet try the pressure points in between your toes, these are for migraines. For sinus, claritin OTC. Hoep you feel better.

Hi Heather...You got the expert here...unfortunately. I am over 50 and have had them since age 16...Here's the deal...sometimes, you can have what are called "aura's" BEFORE the migraine...it is a blindness of sorts...with very bright zig-zaggy lines...lasts about 15 minutes or more...then the pounding headache starts...a true migraine is always on one side of your head only...if not, it's not a migraine. That is one really big clue to determine a true migraine. You can have, but don't have to have...sensitivity to lights, sounds and temperature and nausea/vomiting... No OTC meds will even touch a migraine...it's like giving a baby aspirin to an elephant. You must see a doctor for a prescrip. if you have real honest to goodness migs. If you decide that you do have real ones, I can tell you more about triggers them and what to avoid...let me know and good luck...L

Are you feeling better today, Heather? I used to get them, too, for about eight years. Hormonal changes can trigger them in women, by the way; after I stopped taking any extra hormones (in the form of birth control pills, Depo-Provera shot) mine eventually went away.

Hi everyone, thanks for the advice! I'm feeling a little better today...but it's just there a dull headache that is treatening to be something major! I have no idea what's going on but I can't let it take over my life like this! I don't even want to work out because the extra blood pounding in my head might throw me over the edge! I should go see a doctor I know but the truth of the matter is I really don't like them. Stubborn I know, so I'll just suffer until things get so bad I can't do it anymore, either that or all your advice will work! Thanks everyone!

[B] I suffer from real bad Migrains. It feels like the whole top of your head is comming off,or is ready to explode.Your eyes are very burn in bright lights, and you have to wear dark glasses, sometimes you feel like you are loosing your Cookies, all over, you become very tired, weak, and sometimes you feel dizzy and passout. You may even suffer from Bloody Nose. You eatting habit goes down the tube.Loud Noises, make your head spin, or you scream in pain.In otherwords, you become the She-Devil from Hell, mean natured cranky and isolate from others.Believe me, i have been suffereing from Migrains for over a year. You want to die, cause the pain is overwhelming.

I have had them since I was 4 years old.. been on every med available I was on massive doses of phenybarbatol (sp?)for the first 2 years I went to school to try and control them... even tried the Imitrx shots.. they worked great on the headache, but after taking them for awhile, I started getting numbness in my arms and it scared me.. sometimes my mom would take a belt and tie it around my head really tight and then take it off about 15 minutes later, that helped for a while.. in my teenage years, they would be so bad that I would have seizures and the headache could last for days.. Laz would have to stay home from school to take care of me when they got that bad.. when the headache went away, it would take days for me to recover my strength.
I hope to heaven that you don't have a migraine.. I wouldn't wish them on anyone..

If you can't see straight (I'm not kidding) and someone exhaling is too loud. Good chance you have a migrain.
For the really bad ones (you can't let them get out of controll) you can get an injection in the emergancy room.
I have tried just about everything on the market. I SWEAR by Zomig 5mg. You can't funtion at all for about 2 hours. And it feels as if you have lock jaw. But bing, bang, boom. GONE!!!!!
But at $48.00 a pill, you had better be darn sure it's a migrain!

I have had a bad headache for about 24 hours. I think mine is related to the high temp outside and being in the car running errands all day. I dont know what to do for them except take Aleve, lay down in a cool, dark room where its quiet and try to fall asleep. It worked yesterday after a few hours the headache subsided..... but today it came back. My head feels like its exploding in my forhead and behind my eyes. Other headaches can be cluster headaches or tension headaches which are not as bad and I dont get the milder headaches
Guess I should take aleve and go lay down.

GOTOBME is right... you get this arch of light about an hour before the pain... the arch of light blocks your vision to the point that when you try to read, or if driving, look at a traffic signal, you can't see it. You have vision around the object you are looking at....but no direct vision. This usually eases up after an hour or so....then the pain starts. As my eye doc put it to me, it's a way of knowing that you are about to experience some severe pain in your head. There are meds you can take when the "lights" start that will keep the pain to a minimum.

Migraines are bad.......tunnel vision.....light sensitiviy and you get sick violently not always just depends on each individual........it's constant pounding usually on one side and sometimes you see flashing lights.....sparkles like tiny stars before one comes on ......don't get this confused with a cluster headache they are just as bad......but.....the migraines can put you down for me 3 to 5 days depending how fast I can take my medicine.........and you also should stay away from cheese, coffee, caffeine products those are culprits that trigger them...... I love cheese it is how I get my calcium....... then I tried to cut out ........no migraine...everytime I had cheese didn't matter what kind......alittle here and there on a salad...parmasian cheese on sphegetti ......here and there it's everywhere and in 3 days here comes a migraine..the eyes get very puffy and swollen and the eyes get glossy........you just know..try experimenting with changing foods and you will see........what a difference it makes.......if you are a big coffee drinker of course it is going to be a big impact naturally because you crave the caffeine....... peppermint oil is great to use.........

If you eat a lot of diet foods like soda's , sugar free gum etc. with Aspertame in it. Aspertame is a trigger for migraines. My friend used to always get them. You would be surprised how much better you will feel removing Aspertame from your diet. This has actually been banned in the U.K. because of its toxic side effects. It barely passed here by the FDA. It only made it by 1 vote.

A migrain headache is the worst pain that I have ever felt other that a toothache.I wish this on no one.I took every over the counter medicine that I could and nothing helped.I went to the doctor and they told me that it was due to stress.I don't have a migrain any longer and I have learned manage my stress better.
