I work out daily, about 20 minutes of intensive walking every night on an incline. My diet's alright, not perfect, and I drink a lot of cold water.
I'm getting winded everywhere I walk. Why is this?
And why is no weight coming off of me?
Also, how safe are diet pills when combined with diet and exercise?

It could be your diet.
Also, dont expect to lose weight from that, unless you are sweating profusely while doing it.

You wanted to know why you couldnt lose weight from it.......
I lost weight from it before, it works for me.
I put weight back on because of emotional eating after a breakup. So you DO lose weight from it.......and you didnt tell us about the emotional eating part either. I think that made it a trick......tricky?......question.

Last question first, they can definitely help but most people seem to regain the weight (and sometimes more than they lost) when they stop.
That said, I used Metabolife (the original, not available now) to lose 40# that had slowly crept on over 10 years. Three years later I have only put back on 15#....been trying to lose those for several months. NOT coming off....guess I'd better get on the stationary bike.
First question...have you had a full work-up at your doctor's? Especially thyroid....if you are hypothyroid that will keep you from losing weight along with other symptoms. Worth getting tested if you haven't been.
BTW, I think you are beautiful in both looks & spirit....

Consult your doctor before mixing diet pills with psychotropes.
Diet pills are nothin' but legal speed and could wreck your mental health.
That train known as hypomania may pull up and give you a ride to a place you don't wanna go.
Just keep at the walking, increase its duration, avoid any liquids with calories, avoid aspartame, and eat healthly.
I've just gained ten pounds from holiday sweets and cheat at every opportunity on my diet.

They say that stress hormones contribute to weight gain (I think particularly cortisol?), and I wouldn't be surprised if they were right. That emotional eating thing? I think it's part of the vicious circle...the more depressed and/or stressed we are, the less energetic we are, less exercise means fewer endorphins being generated, boredom increases appetite, we eat more, then get even more depressed when we start putting on weight...etc.
What seems to work best for me is a new romantic interest in my life...endorphins start kicking in, energy levels start to rise, exercise becomes more fun (and therefore more effective), and weight starts dropping pretty much effortlessly. The trick would be to KEEP that romantic interest in my life...something I haven't been very successful with. Ah well...maybe the next one (hope springs eternal...)

I'm a firm believer in walking...I've lost significant amounts of weight doing it in the past, and I'm currently setting up a training plan to walk a mini-marathon. I say continue the walking and either add distance or speed and stay AWAY from the diet pills...they are going to screw with your metabolism, and at your age that can lead to further problems when you get older. Look at Oprah...she attributes her slow metabolism at a later age to just that.
I don't know why you are getting winded, especially if you are walking on the treadmill daily.
You didn't mention if you are drinking much diet pop, but if you are, give it up. They have a dual effect with the artificial sweetners and the sodium of screwing with your appetite as well. Stick with the water.
I know exactly what you are going through with the emotional eating though because thats been my problem plus boredom eating. It sounds like you are getting a handle on this though, so hang in there! You KNOW that perseveriance will pay off in the long run, so just don't quit!

Renae, keep up the walking-it will help. Getting winded everywhere may also have an emotional source, such as anxiety...what other meds are you taking? I take Ritalin for my ADD, but I have learned not to take it within 4 hrs of exertion, such as football practices/games-it gets the heart racing. If you are looking for a good eating plan to lose weight on, pick up Suzanne Somers books-I followed her plan for a month once-I never went hungry, and didn't really excercise-and I lost 25 lbs in a month.

Definitely talk to your doctor if you're taking any kinds of medication.
If you're doing 20 minutes on an incline every night, you shouldn't be getting winded when you're just walking someplace, but understand too, if you're working out intensively, you might be burning sugar then muscle, and not as much fat.
Gaining the weight could be muscle, how are your clothes fitting? Also, what, when, and how much are you eating? If you're starving yourself, then eating, you may end up gaining weight as opposed to losing it, especially if you're eating a lot at one meal, and eating the wrong kinds of food.
I wouldn't touch the diet pills, that stuffs usually not regulated by the FDA.
Talk to you doctor first, then perhaps talk to a trainer if you are going to a gym. You might also consider doing a light workout with weights to gain lean muscle mass and not bulk.
Just thoughts. Keep asking questions, listen to people that know (trainers/athletes), listen to your doctor (medications can sometimes add weight, talk to your doctor about what's happening too, incase there is something going on with thyroid, or perhaps something else...), and listen to your body.

Fat loss is a tricky thing. different factors need to be addressed and those factors are dependent on what your goals are! do you want to just lose a little as in a fade fashion. or do you want to make a life style change to be healthy. I can't say much for the fade fashion,,,, but I can talk about the life style change that anyone can make.... #1 losing weight is not healthy!!!! but losing fat is!! when you lose weight you are losing muscle also. muscle burns fat, so by losing muscle you take away something that can help you. do you have a scale in your house? if you do, throw it out. nothing will kill your will power quicker then trying to please a scale..from now on use the mirror as your scale. its all about how you look and feel about yourself, "Not" how much you weigh!!!!!!!!! #2 diet basics,, its fairly simple. calories in and calories out, everyone has a maintence number of calories= this is how many calories your body needs to maintain its present condition. So if were not happy with our present condition change the conditions to bring about fat loss, two things have to change. first is calories in and out, and 2nd is muscle stimulation. changing our calorie intake might sound simple but it can be a pain. the secert to fat loss is to keep the body using calories all the time. instead of 3 big meals a day with prolonged periods of no food in between make it 5-6 smaller meals a day. cardio is great for fat loss if enough is done. but combined with a good diet its even better. adding weight training is the macca of all diets.. no excuses we heard them before." I don't lift weights because I don't want to look like one of those muscle girls" LOL!! you won't, you and most people can't afford what it takes to be muscular. being muscular takes money, alot of it. most people wouldn't even think about a 4500 calorie a day diet, hours in the gym, supplements, more doctor visits then an aveage person... money!!!!!!!! to wrap it up,, what is a healthy fat loss program? its one you can live with and see results. diet healthy, good foods, cut daily calories by only 500. cardio and get those muscle pumping. what to look for? well if you must use the scale look for a 1-2 lbs loss a week, any more then that and you are more then likely losing muscle.

i would like to add that 20 minutes of intensive walking is fine. but you have to mix it up. your body will adapt easily if you repeat the same exercises over and over again. you must fool it and make it work. also, usually anything AFTER 20 minutes of intensive aerobics burns fat. so working out for just 20 minutes may be just enuf to get your heart rate up, kick start your metabolism, but then you are done. doin this kind of activity may just keep you toned. alot of factors can weigh in of course.
i would suggest 30-40 minutes of intensive walking, you must get your heart rate up and get a serious sweat goin. maybe 2-3 times a week. perhaps mix in some sprints on the other nites. i am not talkin 40 yard dashes. just get a stop watch and i nice flat stretch of land. jog or walk briskly for 10 minutes. then sprint as fast as you can for 20 seconds, rest for 10 and do it again. do 8 of these. no more than 10 second rests! and then cool down with another 10 minute jog or brisk walk. this really kick starts your metabolism. and then helps burn fat
if you would like more of a workout or an outline of one, let me know! i would be happy to share some of my training routines.
