Why are women so uptight about working out in a gym with men? |

Too many women are self conscious about being seen in sweats, or are paranoid that some guy is either checking them out, or ridiculing them for not being rail thin.
That's silly. I go to Peak fitness, and even when the gym is loaded, guys never gawk or stare at a woman working out. We might take a quick glance over at an attractive woman when they're not looking, but never stare. I applaud the ladies that don't wimp out and go to CURVES, or those other womens fitness centers. Be a REAL woman!

Personally, I've always preferred to work out in the "boys' gyms"! But, I'm also very comfortable with weights and machines, and don't give a rat's backside what strangers think of my snakeskin hide!
Some probably are self-conscious about their bodies, but I imagine at least as many are just uncomfortable doing something they're unfamiliar with in an environment where "everyone else" seems comfortable.
Ever considering donning a pink tutu and taking ballet lessons with the chicks?

Boy have I ever considered it!!!! I would also love to coach a college gymnastics team sometime......I wouldnt even have to be the coach, they could just let me in on the group hugs after each routine.

Too many women are self conscious about being seen in sweats Sweats? What happened to all the skimpy barely there workout clothes? Many women who work out are doing it because they don't like the way they look. But if they choose to do it in public rather than the privacy of their own homes, I don't know why they are too self-conscious?
(I found at the gym I use to go to, the men were too busy staring in the mirror at themselves to watch anybody!)

I agree with Emptypages it's rare I see the guys gawking at the women, and it's usually the real young guys who never last very long at the gym. Not saying I don't look, just don't gawk or say something smart. Just wish there were more women 50,60 there. Now that's HOT

I look to see if anyone I know is there and then I get down to business.
Originally worked out at a gym that was for bodybuilders. They helped me more with the weights and stuff than the "attendants" at Gold's.
There are always some of both sexes that sit there and drool.

All of the gym's that I attend are for people who are really serious about their workout, you may take notice of a nice looking person, but everyone is very professional. Personal training gyms cost way too much by the hour to be playing around and not concentrating on your workout. Believe me the sweat is flying all over the mats when I'm kick boxing and I could care less who sees me. When I first began working out years ago I went some women only gyms and found that they are great for beginners, most women feel comfortable and relaxed and your not embarrassed when you need help working the machines. Painter I want to join your class too, I'm sure you teach it well!!!
