I'm on a lot of Lithium, I think like 600 mg a day.
I'm on a rather strict diet and for the most part I'm sticking to it...I'm doing 40 minutes of brisk walking on an incline, and sometimes running and doing nearly 2 miles...most of the time 3 times a week but sometimes more.
I drink about 7 bottles of water a day.
I've only lost 5 pounds and I've been doing this since January.
My nutritionist says that most of the weight I've put on is water and because of the Lithium I can't lose it...
Does anyone know how accurate that is?
Because I can't see any other reason why it won't come off?

Hi sweetie! You're the same age as my daughter. I wish there was a better med for you to take because of the side effects of Lithium. You may want to stay away from all caffeine and all soft drinks unless they are salt free. I know thirst is a common problem with any med that has properties like sodium. You might also try to find an endocrinologist and have your thyroid checked for lithium-based hypothyroidism which will slow your metabolism way down. Good luck!!!

My GP just put me on synthyroid for hypothyroidism. We suspect that the lithium is responsible.
Hypothyroidism will evidently make it very hard to lose weight because the thyroid controls the metabolism.

my niece is about 5'8 and wears a size 1 clothes.. when her doc put her on lithium, she packed on about 30 lbs.. when she stopped taking it (it was making her terribly sick).. she lost all the weight.
have you tried drinking green tea LG?.. it's a natural diuretic and can help with the fluid retention. And boost your metabolism... do have your thyroid checked as UAB said.. if you can, go to an endocrinologist.. the test that the gp does is not accurate enough. I put on alot of weight when I started taking some of my meds.. especially anxiety and nerve medications. they make your mouth dry and you tend to eat more to relieve the dry mouth.. your doctor or dentist can give you something to keep your mouth from staying so dry.. whatever you do.. don't start chomping ice to relieve it. My sister ruined her teeth doing that when she was on the paxil.. good luck hon..
