How many injurys have you sustained while training?
And, how do you know when you have to call it quits with the heavy training?

That varies from lifter to lifter but there's one thing for certain training heavy will produce unjuries. Sad part, ya gotta go heavy some or the weight at meet time is too much of a shock to your body.....It's accepted knowledge that going heavy all the time is not necessary and too hard on your joints....especially your shoulders in the bench.
I changed several years ago to lighter weight, lots of reps but still go somewhat heavy once a week...just for the feel
In the bench try using 60% of you max and doing sets of five.....up top 20 to 25 sets with very little rest between sets....the cardio is great and it get's tough after about 10 to 15 sets.

Right now i am farely young and have only sustained one major injury, so i train pretty heavy and exsplosive a lot.
I also use the Bill Starr 5x5 program for my powerlifts.
I start at 55% of my 5rep max doing sets of 5 increasing the weight by 10% each time then my final set is my 5 rep max.
And then the next week I will train the same way with my 5th set being a heavy set of 3.
