I dont go to a gym. I have a bench and set of free weights at home. I like it better that way. I can do my workouts whenever it is convenient.

It would be nice to have all the machines and bikes though.......and scenery.

But I like being able to do a set of benches whenever the mood hits me.

I like the gym I go to called america's bodyworks gym simply because it runs 24 hours a day. There's a lot of flexibility in hours, and I can work out whenever I want to. Also, I can workout when the gym isn't as crowded.

Brian thats the same reason why i like 24 Hour Fitness, they have clubs all over that making working out convenient. Also they have a staff of highly trained personal trainers.

Hey Lj my mothers also an "in the mood" work-out type of person. She takes walks though, doesn't hit the weights lol

I gave up gyms decades ago and made my own gym because in the long run it was cheaper, I do not need to be pushed and my equipment is always there ready when I am. I have had a total gym since 1983, a wind trainer, rowing machine, cross country ski machine, free weights and weight bench which provide both cardio vascular aerobic as well as overall strength training.

There are always low cost highly discounted exercise equipment to be found at swap meets, home sales, the news paper and online.

My favorite form of exercise is walking, which I try to do 3 times a week. Our school district has just opened 2 of our gyms for staff only 4 hours every day after school. So I'm going there 2-3 days and walking the other days. I do have to be careful what kind of exercises I do--I've had 3 hip surgeries (same hip) and have some severe arthritis in other joints. But the dr has told me I can pretty much do whatever unless it hurts. If it hurts, stop! There are some machines in the gym I just have to stay off of. But I am trying to get into better shape. I have several friends who work out also so we can go together. Makes it nice.

I go to Gold's Gym now plus have my own equipment. I hired a personal trainer to hold me accountable. Ever since about 4-5 years ago, since I got in this relationship that sucked so bad, my motivation went down the toilet. So I am needing outside help.
Since I have been working out with the trainer, I have again gotten motivated at home. Now I just need to stay away from ahem...people that depress me. (I am being nice, I could say LOTS worse.) So I use a bowflex at home and sometimes jump rope, lift weights and then 3 days at Gold's. I may increase the time at Gold's.
They have some really nice equipment at Gold's that works abs and shoulders but I can do most of the shoulder and some of the leg work at home. Some of the leg work at Gold's REALLY burns the butt and thigh muscles and I LOVE that! Too much fat on my ass and thighs. Given the option, I would veg out on the computer all day/night. Need the workout.

Twinkle funny thing is, I've been exercising much more since the surgeries than I ever did before them! I hated feeling so helpless after the first one. So decided to try to get in better shape. If you look at me, you would never think I work out at all (have kept my fat and fluffy shape) but I know that my muscles have toned and I'm healthier for what I've been doing. And that's what counts for me.

Thanks for reposting it Spirit! I'm glad you got it to work. I esp like Tip number 2 about variety, because changing up your workout is important for me because sometimes I CAN get bored with the same ol same ol.

Twinkle, I just signed up with 24hourfitness, with the personal trainer and the Bodybugg package. Two days and I've been there twice - the place is awesome and the people have been great. I've already logged what I'm having for supper, and even with my planned deficit factored in I still have 850 calories to consume. Well, it really WAS a busy day (vacation day for me)...back to my desk tomorrow, so I think I'll just bank those calories.

I am SO happy to have found this gym - it's about 2 miles from home, with a heated pool (okay, I have one in my backyard, but this one's available every day, pretty much whenever I feel like it, rain, shine, cold or hot). I haven't made it into the saunas or jacuzzi yet, but I'm definitely planning to!

My closest one is Gold's. About a mile or two. Nearest 24 hr is about 20 minutes away and too much traffic over there in the Woodlands. Besides, I have this membership already. I would not mind a pool but am not a big swimmer, cat, ya know. Hot tubs are more my style and I have one of them.
I also have lots of equipment here that I am finally motivated to using. My trainer gave me homework today so it's all good!

Wow thats great to hear. I also love the 24 Hour Fitness i go to, theres a steam room, and a basket ball court, I'm not a huge bball player but its nice to go in and shoot around for a little while. We also have a pool, I don't have one at my house so thats a great amenity for me! Some have whirlpools, that would be nice thing to have also. Are you taking any classes there?

No. I am pretty anti social. Don't even do the sauna there. I go in, train and either go home or grocery shopping. My goal is strength training. I got a chiropractic adjustment today that increased my strength! Wow!

At this point I'm going on almost 2 years of working out about 5 days a week[which is good for me, as far as sticking with working out],although my workouts are not fully body, they consist of Jog or fast walk for about 5 miles, then I throw some push ups, chin ups and sit ups in.
The Jog/ fast walk part in mandantory, but how many I do of the others depend on the mood I'm in.

I wouldn't mind adding some Gym working out to this.
How much are you guys paying a year for a gym?

I have a hard time believing Painter works out at all, because everytime I see her she is laying on that couch.
