Are you taking any classes there? Not yet, right now I'm just getting back in the game - about 6 weeks ago my trainer retired, and I'd been looking for something/someone I really felt comfortable with. So far, so good, although today was too gorgeous out to waste it so I walked a couple of miles soaking up sunshine. My target's 10,000 steps, but I only made it to 8300 (too much time on the elliptical I think!).
Whatever we feel good doing's the best we can do (whirlpool at mine too - I should have gone there for a soak after that walk - only about half my usual distance but I was hurting before I even started...can I have some cheese with my whine?)

Ken, I have no clue what I am paying for mine. I bought it with part of my inheritance which I have pretty much spent now on my business.

Some of us signed up for a 4 week deal at the school gyms. We go pedometers and a sheet to fill out. If we get at least 100 points a week, we get a free t-shirt! My biggest number of steps so far is a bit over 6,000. I've gone 4 days a week for the past 3 weeks to the gym and worked out for 30-45 minutes. Havent' done much walking outside though due to the weather. In the past 2 weeks I've lost 3 lbs., not a lot but a start.

If you have been exercising that much, Sign, most likely the reason you are not losing more is you are gaining muscle.

I have membership at a local Mom & Pop gym. It is reasonably priced and the equipment is pretty good. They are open 24 hrs a day so I can get a work out in despite my hectic schedule.

After 4 weeks now I have lost 4 lbs, which I'll probably gain back now that I'm on spring break! But the good news is that the gym will be open for 2 hours every morning during spring break so I plan to go at least twice.( It's 20 miles away so if I don't really need to go in, I'd rather not waste the gas.) But I do want to keep up with some kind of program. Now we're waiting to hear if the gym will be open at all during the summer.

I lost two lbs between Wednesday and Friday. Surprised me! I also broke almost all my records in repetitions PLUS he snuck heavier weights in on one that used to be really hard to do. My prone iso abs, I stayed up for 2 minutes and I think 12 seconds. prone iso abs <<< They look like this only I do it on the elbows with the arms up. I may try it this way. It HURTS the elbows my way. Ouch!

I've fought weight issues for most of my adult life. I started working out again this winter, but I do it at home (Nordic Track recumbent bike and treadmill). No way would I feel comfortable hauling my bod into a public arena . So far I have lost 50 lbs by working out for five days out of the week and eating healthier..and much smaller portions. My work out goals are to get my heart rate up to at least 130 for 30 minutes. With warm-up and cool-down, I generally work out for 45 - 60 minutes. It's made a huge difference. The hardest part will be sticking to it...especially AFTER I've achieved my weight-loss goals....or it'll all come back with a vengence!

Still working out a couple of times a week but walking seems to be my best weight loss activity. I'm losing steadily and my trainer measured me last week so I know I'm losting actual INCHES! I did free weights today, on an exercise ball as well as the full circuit on the weight machines. Aaaarghhh...I'm learning anatomy the painful way, isolating those triceps and biceps and abs HURTS! Then I came home, pulled weeds, hauled and added compost and planted my tomatoes. I'm gonna be paying for it tomorrow.
(reminder - the scale only tells part of the story, fat's less dense than muscle, you need to watch them inches too!)

Right! I have seen pants that fit tight fitting looser now so, I know I am losing fat. My belly has really gotten pretty firm. I told my trainer to focus on that and inner thighs for awhile. I want to see more progress there. He has taken some of the stuff that got too easy and beefed it up. Like putting weights between my feet on the upright knee lifts and the lifts uf the upper back I hold a 10 lb weight. The reverse back flexion I have a 10 lb weight on the feet as I balance on a stability ball that is on a bench. Me holding on the bench over the ball and lifting the legs in the air. It is getting more fun.

I hate dieting....The trick for me is I just dont have bigger clothes. If I feel things are getting tight I just watch what I eat for a couple days.

I hate dieting so I just go do something to burn calories now. Other than walking. I just am not thrilled by walking. It is boring to me.

Hey everyone, I was wondering if any of you have tried any special kinds of diets (i.e lemon diet). If so how did it turn out for you?

I don't diet. I've added more fruit and vegetables to what I eat and drink more water now. I still go to the school gym and do more walking now since it's warmer. I went to the dr. a month ago and have lost 5 lbs. I know i've lost inches because I'm wearing (right now) shorts I wasn't able to wear for the past 2 summers. I still look fat and fluffy but know I'm more healthy, so I guess that's all that matters. I will never be thin, it's not in my genes. So healthy is what I'm working for.

I go to a gym for both men and women. I weight train daily, alternating days for upper and lower body. I do cardio every other day.
For me, working out is a wonderful way to keep mind, body and Spirit in balance.
Maintaining this balance is what motivates me to go every day, even when I'm not up to it. I think if most people have a motivation that is personally meaningful to them, they will stick to their chosen exercise plan more readily.

I am just getting back into my field of deep water fitness training and personal training... One thing.....our bodies have a set point where the weight is harder to come off....The thing that can get you past that set is to increase your aerobics....but not decrease what you eat. Just eat healthy. Your body will go into a protective mode where it will hang onto your fat...thinking its going to starve....hence.....no weight loss......

sign - do you have access to the pool at all? I used to do water arobics 5 nights a week - had alot of people in the classes with joint issues - the water helps reduce the stress on the joints. Don't let it fool you - it can be tougher than you think it might be in the water.
